Well someone has been putting up this attack on my game-server ports. For those of you who don't know what type of attack this is, so its an attack which is actually masked to us because the attacker uses his machine to send packets to a machine called source which reflects the packets to destination. Based on this, the UDP port under Flood at the destination starts making outgoing connections to that IP and gets rejected which uses up more than 5mb/second bandwidth instantly.
I've worked out on some security for this and now need a tool to test this against my machine. I've used PentBox but that's not really powerful to do anything. As I search Google, I find something called Trinoo but can't download or test it.
I've been looking for a good data integrity test tool for linux, but I'm having trouble finding one. Basically I'm looking for an application that will generate a heavy I/O load to a raw device and then perform some kind of data verification on the device. I my case the raw device will be md raid5 array.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to receive data that is being broadcast on address 224.0.1.1, 224.0.1.2, 224.0.1.3, 224.0.1.4. ports are 1201, 1202, 1203, 1204 respectively. I can see the data using wireshark but can not get my program to receive the data. all firewalls are shutdown. iptables is not running, i've set net.ipv4_icmp_ignore_broadcasts = 0 and still no luck.

telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1).
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
Everything else seems to be working (telnet to 110), and I turned off the firewall entirely, but I still cannot telnet to port 25. I also get a blank error within squirrelmail when attempting to send mail out (ERROR:Message not sent. Server replied: ). I apologize for not going directly to the qmailrocks forum, but they are currently closed down (due to lack of funds). I also am a newbie, so I apologize for the lack of needed information. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know what information you would need.

We've had the CD recorders replaced frequently, and that often fixes the problem, but then we'll start having problems again. Usually it is the CD refuses to write, or it gets written but can't be read. Often, if I re-run the burn with the same blank CD, it will be fine.
I'd like to test some CD-Rs and compare error rates so I can recommend what CD-R media we should be using. Currently we are using Memorex and Verbatim CD-Rs. Is there a good cd recording/testing suite for Linux that I could use to do this?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have been battling an issue for a couple of days and I have it down to 2 possibilities. Memory or mobo. A server in the DC is being very sketchy. Sometimes it will boot fine, sometimes it will boot but will not show all the memory, and sometimes it will hang before it even posts. I have replaced just about everything inside the system except for the memory and the mobo.
I would like to test the memory before replacing either because both are a few hundred dollars. The problem is, the memory doesn't log any errors and running a memory test with ubcd doesn't work because it's ecc memory. I thought I remembered hearing that there is a way to run a memory test during a Centos or RHEL installation, but I can't figure out how.
The memory is

Often after using the network tool, making changes, saving changes, closing the tool, and running a 'service network restart'; the tool will not open again unless I reboot. I am looking for a tool to index the files on my PC to allow full text search. I use recoll on Ubuntu and it does a great job. As I described in a previous post there does not seem to be an rpm package available for recoll on CentOS and I have not been able to build from source.So I tried beagle. In a nutshell the old version of beagle available for CentOS 5.6 does not do a good job of indexing pdf files. The newest version, tried on Linux Mint, does not do much better. And the beagle web site seems to be gone so I am not sure if it is an active product.
I have done some searching and most of what I find appear to be tools for indexing a web server. That is a bit of an overkill for my needs. I simply want to be able to search old email archives, OpenOffice documents, text and pdf files stored and accessed locally on the PC?
