After making many updates via pup, including FreeNX, my FreeNX installation has broken. It worked flawlessly before the update. Now when I try to connect my client connects, I see the NoMachine splash screen and then I lose the connection with the following details:

After a recient update to the freenx libraries KDE on Kubuntu 10.04 stopped working but other desktops like gnome kept running. The problem wasn't in the normal log files, but it was found in the .xsession-errors file in the user directory on the server. After the update NX is trying to start kde with the /usr/bin/startkde4 command which doesn't exist. Instead make a link from /usr/bin/startkde to the non existent /usr/bin/startkde4 and it will work again. To do this use the command:

I just downloaded the most recent version of the updates for Ubuntu 9.10 and for the 4th or 5th time since I've used 9.10 it's broken 9.10 so I can't boot. Usually after breaking it it just hangs at the screen between the big white ubuntu O and the next with the progress bar, this time after the big white O I get random multicolored characters at the top of the screen and the computer hangs with no activity, no hdd lights or anything. Unless anyone has any suggestions I'm just not going to use Ubuntu, at least until 10.04 is available this is really getting old.

Its been great, and I've been able to SSH into the box without any issues in the past.Last night, I ran apt-get update and apt-get upgrade to bring my system more current.
Now, I can't seem to log into SSH any longer, and get a "Connection failed, Windows error 10061" error.I'm going to upgrade the OS to 11 as well in hopes things fix themselves.
Ubuntu was working fine and everything. I get a notice that there were updates available so I tell Update Manager to update. It wanted a reboot after everything was successfully installed. So I press reboot and this is what I get from now on. How can I fix whatever the updates destroyed?

After an update came through and I applied it (I believe it was a linux kernel update or generic headers update) wifi stopped working.I followed the steps in the post to re-create the driver but this time it doesn't work. So 2 questions:1. How to re-create the driver after this update?2. How to prevent this from happening again? So that another update doesn't make the driver not work?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter applying the 31st Jan and 1st Feb updates to -current (32 bit), alt-tab to switch between windows is no longer working in kde. It seems to lock the desktop and then after a few seconds kde goes back to the login screen. If I disable all desktop effects then alt-tab works again.
View 10 Replies View Relatedand this morning's updates broke x. I get a blank screen instead of the login. I'm running an Nvidia 7900GS. I tried re-installing the Nvidia drivers... no good. I switched to the nv drivers and got further; I got the login screen, but when I try to log in it gives me the KDE splash screen and then takes me back to the login screen. I'm not sure what to try next.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been running 8.04LTS on a Sony Pentium III with Intel 810 chipset as a desktop system but with the servers installed so I could prototype web sites. The updates two days ago (Feb 23) have broken my theme display and screensaver. I can't get the background image to display like it used to do and none of the Applications Menu icons are showing. I have a second 8.04LTS system on a P4 Intel motherboard that got the same updates and is working fine, nothing broke that I can see.
I tried to use the 'Screens and Graphic' application to set the screen back to what I wanted but it wouldn't 'stick'. I finally hand edited xorg.conf so that it would boot up in a screen that I could use. Still, the 'X' close and min/max icons in the window corners still don't show. This makes it inconvenient to use though it still works as a web server. I dont' know where to look from here.
Also, I would like users to authenticate against using LDAP rather having created manually in the NX server. I installed using yum install freenx nx and rename the node.conf.sample to node.conf and installed the windows client. but when I am trying to conenct the nx server it says it is connected but it gives me NX> 202 Authenticating user: nxNX> 208 Using auth method: publickeyNX> 204 Authentication failed.I have change this nx user in sshd_config file to user that i created using nx server command which exists in local machine.

I have also read many posts, many how-to's, many troubleshooting guides, and absolutely nothing is working for me. It's Crazy. First of all, I've installed FreeNX before, with little to no trouble. I am not completely green at the linux command line, but I am still no expert. I'm hoping one of you guru's out there can lend me a bit of a hand.
Here goes, I've installed FreeNX onto my CentOS 5.4 dedicated box, using the how-to [URL].. I've done everything, letter by letter, on the how-to. (Installed CentOS, configured sshd_config, added users in AllowUsers, created nx user, imported keys.. etc) At this point, I could not connect to my box, with the error message:

View 2 Replies View RelatedSorry if this is in the wrong group but its a bit of an odd one but I think comes under Server Support.. I've set up both x11vnc and freenx in an attempt to eliminate either as a cause for this issue. The problem is that when I log in with either, I can get into the desktop and run things from the menus but when I make the System menu active - the session hangs and you have to killall for the freenx or vnc processes.
I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me investigate this and hopefully fix it as I'm not sure where to look given that both types of remote connection seem to have the same issue.
I've created a brand new CentOS 5.4 (Final) 64bit machine AMI on Amazon EC2. This was based off an existing image. I was able to follow the wiki to add NX server. I am using WIN XP desktop for NX client.
I can connect to the EC2 machine and get the GNOME desktop fine. I see the usual CentOS desktop and poke around.
Q/Problem:
I expected to open the Terminal window and get a shell prompt to su into root user (I need to be root to install some software that needs GUI). I do not want to install this from my plain SSH connection to EC2 (hence the NX server etc.).
When I open the Terminal window, all I get is the NX>105 prompt. I need to get to a shell prompt so I can su into root. For life of me, I cannot get around this prompt (I looked at NX documentation too). Note that this is a prompt NOT on client but on the remote machine. I do not need this as I'm already authenticated and logged in to remote GNOME desktop.
Obviously the TERMINAL is running some NX start up script (I've no idea which one). If there is some other way to sudo into root?
I'm running CentOS 5.4 and noticed that for the past month there haven't been any new updates showing up either on 'yum check-update' or 'yum update' (I'm interested in basic and security updates). Although this may be right, I wonder if there is an online reference where I can check the updates that are released for CentOS (security bulletins) and make sure if there is anything wrong with my update system.

I have created aprtition calls /dev/sdd4 and used mount comand I changed /etc/fstab added the new partition to that file as recomanded on http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-disk-format/
Now when I reboot my pc I get an error message
( fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sdd2 [failed]

When I type the root password it is on read-only I cant chage any file.
Servlet were working. The next to last yum upgrade broke servlet.

View 7 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the latest updates (the second round of updates since the upgrade from CentOS 5.5 to 5.6), Evolution mail barely works on my KDE desktop.After I do manage to get it running, then exit the program and log out, bonobo-activation-server and a couple of evolution process invariably continue running, and must be killed manually.The program generally does not start at all using the desktop program icons. If I make sure bonobo and all evolution processes are dead, I can generally get it started using the command line, but it complains with this error message:

This update broke a software tool from Xilinx (FPGA compiler). I rolled back all of the above, to 2.5-58.el5_6.3, and the tool works OK. I get:

View 12 Replies View RelatedAfter doing an update a couple of days ago (had previously upgraded to 5.6), the font size in firefox (file forward reload, etc), terminal and the panel (using xfce) are significately smaller. Searching the web, mail lists and the forums have not resulted in finding anyone else with this problem. I did notice that glibc has a bug that is currently being worked on at Redhat but it is unclear if the font problem I am seeing is related. Note also, that the initial upgrade to Centos 5.6 was successful.

This is just a curious question. I am trying to setup a LVS system with three layers: (1) Virtual Servers, (2) Real Servers & (3) Storage Servers.
Real Servers (RS) & Storage Servers (SS) are on private network. My question is, how RS & SS look for latest updates from the Internet?
I know this is not as easy or simple as I talk this questions for a free distro. Is it possible, that the last update for the update repository is from 07. Jan. 2011? I know I can get the srpm from rh and compile it by myself.
Is it right --> in case of new releases and limited resources the updates for supportet releases are not highest priority and so we have to wait a little or compile it manually from rh source?
