CentOS 5 Server :: Rotating Named Logs Via Syslog.conf?

Mar 1, 2010

OS CentOS 5.4 I have a DNS server that is logging all named and dns requests to the chrooted named directory. By default named logs to /var/log/messages but I want to isolate all the dns queries and requests to separate files. I know I can add entries to /etc/syslog.conf to "roll" the logs and logrotate should pick them up but fuzzy as to the syntax. I don't know what "tag" to use in the first fieild. for example

# Log anything (except mail) of level info or higher.
# Don't log private authentication messages!
*.info;mail.none;authpriv.none;cron.none/var/log/messages

Here is the logging section of my named.conf

# pwd
# /var/named/chroot/etc
logging

Server :: Change The Webroot Of The Httpd Server - Directory Doesn't Exist - CentOS 5

Jun 1, 2009

I have just configured CentOS server my new office. This is the first time I am using CentOS.

Whenever I am trying to change the webroot of the httpd server, it usually say "directory doesn't exist". whereas which can't be the case as it is home directory of the user.

To achieve this, what Do I need to do?

The second issue, I am facing that whenever I am adding new directories to public_html folder, it is not accessible. as the error page 404 is shown. I have changed the permissions to 0705 and ownership is also transferred to other user. What else is required to make new directories accessible by the web?

Server :: Windows 7 Cannot Query Named DNS Server

Aug 17, 2010

Been hunting around and trying this for a few days now, without any success.I have configured a CentOS 5.5 box to start up named on boot. I have a Windows 7 machine currently going straight to the router for its DNS, that I want to point to this box instead. While I have done all the tests on the Linux box, and everything says it's working, my Windows 7 box just can't seem to contact the named service. While I am certain that my firewalls are configured correctly ( as I was able to connect through with Cyberkit on the other ports that are open ), I have even switched off the firewalls on both machines entirely to rule them out. And they still can't connect.

CentOS 5 Server :: "named" Crashes Once In A While?

Mar 8, 2010

I replaced an old server (Fedora 3) with a new machine running CentOS 5.4. Unfortunately, I'm having some problems with "named".

Once in a while the "named" daemon crashes so hard, that I can't even restart it using

/etc/init.d/named restart

because the console freezes at "Shutting down named ...". I already waited for about 20 mins, but nothing happened. I cancelled the process using CTRL+C and typed "reboot" to restart the machine. After rebooting the "named" service works fine, but sooner or later it crashes again.

I also don't think it's a config problem, because I applied the "named.conf" from the former server where the whole "named" service worked fine and never crashed before. I'm a little confused, I also googled a lot nad could not find anything that exactly matches my problem. Is this a known problem?

The cron log shows it being fired off at the right time...but the server never bounces. I thought maybe I just missed it, but there is nothing in messages that shows the server restarting (unlike when i do it manually, you see the start-up logging).

CentOS 5 Server :: Need To Restart Apache If File Doesn't Exists

Jun 6, 2009

I'm running CentOS 5.3 64bit and from the get go I've had problems with the Apache server.More specifically, on what seems to be a random occurance, the apache server stops to respond. The process is still running, but nothing happens with it, and it is not responding. The /var/logs/httpd/error_log is blank for the occurance and only shows an entry after I give it a restart. So I'm a bit confused about what is going on.With that said, I need to make sure the httpd is working one way or another.I don't want to force a restart service every 10 minutes as this seems a bit too much. However, I do want to have the following:

run a crond every minute to do:If it fails, then do service httpd restart (and log the failure and restart to a file and email me a message).Any pointers on how to do that?It ain't the pretty solution, but it will save me from a very angry user until I'll figure what is the real cause for this failure.

Server :: Change Of Apache Httpd.conf Doesn't Work On CentOS/RedHat?

Jun 30, 2010

I've been trying to make install apache 2.1.8 and php 5.2.3 and work on them. After updating and installing some dependence files, apache and php could both be installed.

Then I tried to configure them. I added the following content to the end of Apache httpd.conf:

Code:

Then I run /path/to/apachectl start, and saw the message:

Quote:

Invalid command 'RewriteEngine', perhaps misspelled or defined by a module not included in the server configuration

Then I remembered that I didn't include the rewrite module while making install apache. So I removed the 2 lines I just added to httpd.conf.

But, after running /path/to/apachectl stop and start again, I could still see:

Code:

When I use firefox to open http://host_ip:8080/, I could see "It works!". But when I open http://host_ip:8080/hello.php (the file is already under htdocs), firefox said
Quote:

Failed to Connect

Why and how to solve it?

I noticed that for some stupid reason, the conf file wasn't updated at all and the 2 erroneous lines were still there.
