1) DNS cache
2) Transparent Squid Cache only
3) Load Balance - at switchlevel
Upgraded Hardrives to SSD 2x32gb each server 4gb of ram 2x Dell poweredge 850's - p4 2.8 (single cores) So any advise , pointers , expeirnces and best ways to do this being both server will do both dns caching and squid! Also is bind9 the best for this?? i seen stuff about DNSmasq what performs better( i dont need DHCP)

Everything works great as far as browsing, but my main goal was to cache large downloads (usually executables) that I download frequently. So I set the minimum to 300KB and the max to 100MB. The problem, though, is the cache is not being used. I can download a file at regular speed on one computer, and then try and download it again and it downloads from the internet again, rather than the cache, so the speed is no faster.

my both linux and windows has 2 network cards each.
basicaly it is vLan cards, each server has 2 network cards. one to main switch and one to local IP.
data will be going like below:
internet ----------------> eth0 --> linux --> eth1 ----------------> Windows.
i have vLans on both servers. And i need cross connection setup. And use linux in bridg mode / cross connection .
actualy i want to use Iptable rules to filter bad packets and forward good packets to windows. i have scripts how to forward packets to windows. but the problem is i dont know how to setup both servers in this topology. and how to make linux as bridge.
All it should be in transparent mode. Not in NAT mode.
I configured squid in transperant proxy and it's working fine.Now i tried it in bridge mode for that i did setup for bridge mode and it's working fine.But i can not get any http request in squid access log.i can see traffic from my bridge. tcpdump -i br0

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe challenge: I am trying to setup a piece of hardware that is transparent to the network that transfers ip packets between two interfaces without adding a "hop". Details The particular problem I'm having is that one interface is ppp, the other is ethernet. It is trivial to setup a bridge between two ethernet devices but I am having trouble finding anything for ppp<->ethernet.
Here, the ppp link is an internet connection, and the ethernet connection has exactly one device attached. Once the ppp link is negotiated, I want the ppp peer to think it's talking directly with the device on my ethernet interface and I want the device on my ethernet interface to think it's talking directly to the ppp peer.
Current solution: The best solution I currently have is to alter the routing table. When the ppp link is negotiated, I am given an ip address. I add a route that directs everything to that ip address to the eth0 device. I also set a default route to the ppp device. Now, anything that comes from the ethernet side gets forwarded to the ppp side, and anything directed towards my ip address gets forwarded to the eth0 side.
I am trying to set up a network like this:
Internet <---> Router <---> Debian server <---> Windows PC
I want the server and PC to both have internet access, and I want to be able to forward ports from the router to the server. I know how to configure the server to give the PC internet access, but how would I assign an IP address to the server and give it internet access? I have used a very similar setup a few years ago, but I can't remember how to do this.
I am new to fedora and I've installed fedora 14, I want to know what are the steps to make my machine act as a transparent (IP-less) bridge? Second, after setting the bridge, I want to make all the packets that passes through the bridge execute a servlet filter (to make some tests and add cookies) is it possible? I have OpenVPN running on my Ubuntu Server just fine. I can connect over the Internet and access all my resources on the LAN via bridged mode perfectly. My server only has one LAN card and sits behind my router, which means it has a private IP address of 10.1.1.2....Which brings me to my question. I want to open up access to my friends via OpenVPN, but I don't want them to be able to access other machines on my LAN (e.g. 10.1.1.20). However, I do want them to be able to talk to each other and pass broadcasts (old LAN games), as well as my laptop (let's say 10.1.1.7).I've tried using iptables to block traffic to the LAN (such as .20), to no avail. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 wlan cards. wlan0 and wlan1. wlan0 is in AP mode(Master mode) using hostap. wlan1 is connected to another wireless network and is in Managed mode. Now I want to make a bridge between wlan0 and wlan1. I do it like that:

can't add wlan1 to bridge mybridge: Operation not supported
It doesnt work, because wlan1 is in managed mode. But Windows 7 can bridge 2 Wlan cards when one is AP and another one is STA. How to do it in Linux?
How would I configure my box to connect to a modem in bridge mode?

What is the values I should used in the file opend by "edquota username" command? What is the usage of inode? there are soft and hard items in columns 3 ,4 and 6,7. Which of them should be configured? here is the example by CentOS documents. I only changed the file system which is in my case /dev/sdb0 (this is mounted as /home in my system. I'm interested in configuring two Netcomm NB504 WiFi routers to work in a Bridge configuration. ie. Local PCs ---> Router <----//----> Router <--- local PCs
The NB504 router doesn't appear to have a native "bridge" mode. However, it does run Linux according to the documentation. I'm interested to hear from anyone who has actually got two of these routers to work in a bridge configuration. I'm not interested in general theoretical comments - only solid advice. I am also not interested in using other hardware for this exercise - I have two of these devices available for use in this project.

Both machines are virtual on VMware ESX 3.5, that should not make a difference, but that is the background.current status is that I have a single node cluster built with only the IP address configured within the cluster. The issue that I am having is that I have configured a service to contain only the IP address resource, however, when I go into cluster management that "service" does not register. As such, I cannot bring it online, ping it, etc. below is my cluster.conf configuration:

I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image. Myself and a friend have our own small IT business; we mainly design and build web sites for other small businesses. One of the things we would like to offer to clients is the ability to relay email addressed to their company's domain to their own personal email address (either web-based, or hosted by their ISP).
Now, clearly there is a risk of our mail relay being marked as "open", and therefore becoming black listed as a source of spam. Not something that we want to happen!setting up such a system? I understand how I would go about configuring an MTA like Postfix or Sendmail to perform such a task, but I'm unsure how I would ensure that relayed mail is delivered and we're not labeled as spammers.
I did wonder if perhaps the "mail forwarding" options in a mail server like Zimbra would get around the issue by forwarding on messages inline or as attachments within new emails (so the messages would appear to be from the account hosted on our server).
I create and edit .htaccess file under /var/www/html/ directory, everything goes well as expected.
