I am having a time at trying to get a simple FTP setup to my Var/www/html folder for my canned Joomla website. I can log in anon with no write permissions, but it will not log in using any users I have setup on the server. I've googled a bunch, but nothing to correct my 530 authentication failure when I try to log in as one of my user accounts for the server.

Here and there i change some of its content, but i want to practice it locally on my computer before i do bigger things on the web, so that if things get into a serious problem it is close at hand to fix it up. I've installed apache2 php5-mysql libapache2-mod-php5 mysql-server on my Ubuntu 10.04 desktop. also, I've installed Joomla up and running.
My question is: how do i transport/copy my website from the web into my computer?
I know that I need to transfer the database, where do i put it in my local file system, and what additional commands are required for that?

The website I am trying to get working is hosted on CentOS. The version is 2.6.18-194.11.1.el5PAE. Im trying to get migrate the site from one server to another and now the cgi script doesnt execute correctly as it requires the class Template which is in a folder within the website tree.
Are there programs for this? Really really simple page layouts that you can edit and host from a graphical desktop that has your web browsers and Pidgen and VLC media player and everything running on it at the same time?

One of our website is running on CentOS VM. Right now there is no traffic on the website static HTML pages. I do not have any clue as why it was taking longer time to be accessed.

Let's say the folder is on A machine. From B machine, which is in different LANs, I want to access myweb folder using a web browser. I can ping both machines nut I can't access the folder. I'm building a file server using Ubuntu. I want to setup an HTML based file upload/download system where I can create accounts for a few users and allow each user access certain folders. So that the user would open it like a webpage using a web browser and then uploads and downloads files, not needing special setup for the computer. Is there a ready made solution for that purpose? I can either install the OS on a compact flash card and use hard disks as storage, or just install everything on the hard disk. I'd also like to set up a software raid for mirroring. I've never done this before, and most recently updated documentation i've found is for ubuntu. Any advice or good links someone can point me to on how to set up raid? I'd like to encrypt my hard disks but I don't know what my options are. It seems like people point to truecrypt, but i'm wondering what else is out there or if people have any advice on this. Would it be feasible to do this if I install the OS on a compact flash card and?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two computers on my home lan I am trying to share files between...My desktop which is running Ubuntu Server 10.10 (x64) with a GUI, and my laptop which is running Ubuntu Desktop 10.04. I have tried a million different tutorials regarding SAMBA setup, but they never work.
In addition, most of those tutorials are geared towards hybrid Linux/Windows environment. I do not have any microsoft product in my home. I have created the share on my server, but I'm not sure how to connect to it from the laptop (once again at this point in the tutorials it explains how to access it from a Windows PC). I tried using the menu doing this:
Places-->Connect To Server-->Service Type-->Windows Share (for the server I tried my server hostname and IP) to no avail. Does anyone know of a recent step by step tutorial for setting up a complete Ubuntu environment? Is there a simpler method I can use since I do not particularly need to use SMB protocol?

I am running Centos 5.5 with Apache 2.2.3, MySql 5, and PHP 5.1.6. I am migrating a Drupal installation to the default html folder for development purposes. I am very new to server management, and a bit lost.I want to install some other web sites on the sandbox server to experiment with before uploading them to a Production environment. Is it possible to have multiple html folders? Or to use symlinks to point to the folders where the other web sites will reside?

I am trying to deploy a very simple file server in my company's network.The goal is just to have a file server with DAT backup, nothing more.I managed to configure Samba to show a share visible in the Windows network, with free read and write to everyone. For this I configured "Autentication Mode = user", and read/write access to all users in the specified share.
Of course, I would like to have the possibility to establish permissions based in AD-users. For that, I tried to add my CentOS machine to AD.I followed the guide in:

I can get the kerberos "kinit" command to autenticate in Windows AD: I can access the Windows machines in the network as administrator and "klist" shows the valid ticket.But, when trying the "join", I always get the "No logon servers" error.I googled around for this, and it seems that this is a common error and there is no "magic approach" for it...
So, my questions are:
- Can this be achieved only by the Samba configuration tool (Gui)? I think not, as we need to change kerberos settins
- What would be the correct settings for krb5.conf?
- Are there any other services/files needed to adjust?
I have a website that has a massive list of royalty free stock photos and I want to download all of them. I have bought a membership for [URL] so I am able to download as much as I want from them for the next month.
Instead of going page by page and manually downloading each set of stock photos manually, I would like to automate this process. Here's my idea:
1. Download the website with the links to hotfile [URL]
2. Use grep to retrieve all the links to [URL]
3. Feed the links I recieve from grep into wget and download the works of them.
The problem I'm getting is when I use grep, It retrieves the entire line of html code where "hotfile.com" is shown. So here is an example of one link I receive in the output:

My daughter wants to build a little website that looks a bit like a magazine for her family and select friends. Front page has links to stories or articles she'll write. She would also like to post some pictures for people to see and maybe have people add comments if they like. I'd like to host it locally on our home server and limit access with an id and password. I would use something like DYNDNS.com to point family and friends to our server where they could login. I have an Ubuntu Lamp server setup to install what we need.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?

The Virtualbox (not for the VM) network preferences have DHCP Server disabled and IPV address and the network mask I believe are valid for my home network. My VM is up and running and it has gotten an IP address from my home router and everything seems fine. From any machine in my house I can ssh into my centos installation. I went ahead and started up the httpd service and the website is up. IOW, I can see it from my centos box - when I navigate to http://localhost However, I cannot see it from any other machine on the net. The IP address of the centos bos is 192.168.0.141. From the centos I can do a ttp://192.168.0.141 and see the Apache 2 test Page. I can see that from anywhere else. Although I can ssh to that machine.

I have 4 centos5 apache webservers all on the same network, recently, 2 of the webservers have stopped being able to ping or browse one particular website where feeds are obtained from this site. I have checked and firewall and selinux settings are disabled. The two webservers are able to ping and browse other sites. Dns settings are the same for all 4 servers. traceroute for working and not working webservers are the same.

The http daemon is running and when navigating to localhost i get the welcome cent os apache page thingy. The problem is when i put an index.html file in /var/http/www then try and navigation to localhost I get a 403 forbidden error.
