I need to extract som text from a text file. The text is a test log with system info at the top and results further down. What I need is to add different tags with formatting before and after each line. I have prepared a template with html formatting, but the number of lines in the test log may be different from case to case, so I need to be able to add formatting tags by need. Can this be done using bash script, sed, awk, head, tail... ?
I need a script that can do this: A script that searches all directories and subdirectories for .html files When a .html file is found it creates a index.html file in that folder. It then edits the index.html file and inserts links to all of the .html files that are in that folder into the body. If no .html files are found, it searches for folders. It then creates a index.html file with links to all of the folders.
I put a text file on my desktop and added a couple lines of text with gedit. File type shows text/plain. Double-click opens the file in gedit which is what I want. I'm using the file to temporarily hold some snips of code that I copy from file to file, but when I copy some html into the file and save it, now file properties show it's text/html and a double-click opens the file in firefox, which isn't what I want. Is there some way to keep the file type from changing itself?
I have a file with 5000 lines. it is a list of books authors, series and titles. all lines start with the author names, than there is a dash (-) than the series name, a dash again and the title of the book.
The problem I encounter is that sometime there is a series, sometime not, and as I try to enter this list in a database, I wanted to create a cvs file to import into mysql.
ex:
The best would be to be able to add in the second line, a "space dash space" just after the author name, but how to make sure it does not do it to the first line as well.
If I could separate all line with 2 dash, (grep ?) then I would be able to do a simple replace, and change the single dash into two.
I need to create an object using DIA (0.96.1) with the following characteristics: simple text (basically a number) exactly centered in a circle The reason why I need a way to exactly center the text is that I need to export the diagram within a vectorial graphic format and change its font. If the text is "manually" centered the result is not satisfactory. There are few defined objects in DIA that automatically center the text within a frame but none with a circle.
I need to be able to convert HTML email messages saved as text files (.eml or .msg) to PDF documents, one PDF per email, retaining formatting and images.
Are there any Linux tools that will allow me to do this from the command line (so it can be scripted)?
i'm trying to convert a html file into a text file when i simply run "html2text <filename>" the output displayed is the way we want but when i redirect the same using "-o" or ">>" the file is having extra characters in it. i even tried -ascii,but no much use.
but in index.html appears the following screeshot.jpg. create.html and index.html are both in /var/www directory. Why create.html appears in /cgi-bin directory?
have a built piece of software that I wrote with a whopping 3 files included total.Iwant to package this inside an rpm. I don't need complex stuff like postinstall scripts, dependencies, subpackages, or any of that stuff. I just want a simple rpm with the 3 files, a package identifier, and a summary. I am not planning on posting this rpm on a repo such as fedora or rpmfusion.
i'm trying to create simple form that will also upload only xml data. first, the user will need to upload an xml document only by clicking submit, the data will be posted to the server and the user will be redirected to uploader.php. This PHP file is going to process the form data and do all the work.
I have installed KDE 4.6.1, on distribution Ubuntu 10.10 . But i have problem with trash icon. Even when i delete a simple text file, trash icon not change, shows empty icon. When I open trash directory location from dolphin, left side shortcuts, it shows empty directory. Is it a bug? Where is my deleted file gone?
I'm working with a dual-boot laptop running Ubuntu 10.0/Windows 7 and a Debian 5 VPS while the OS's shouldn't have much impact on my question.
What I would like to do is create a html page that I can upload to my VPS which lists all of the files/folders on my local 2TB hard drive (Specifically media such as Movies, Music, TV Shows...). The media obviously will not reside on the server, but I would like to at least have a list which will allow me to select, for instance, a bands artist so that it redirects me to the albums in the directory below.
Ultimately, I'm looking for Open Directory Browsing without actually having the media on my server. I have been attempting to create something to this effect using lynx, however, I'm not sure if it can be done with this command or if it's even possible for that matter.
basically i have to create a simple program with will continually read input from the user until they enter a blank linei know how to read in certain input but not sure how to get it continually in a loop
I have managed to create a HTML file inside python code, convert this to a PNG file through a Python script ?
EDIT: Details added: I have a python script which generates map-legends in the form of an html file. The legend generated have to be pasted on a map which is in a png format. A png format file can be pasted on another png format file easily. But because the legends generated are in a html format I cannot paste it on the map file !!
EDIT: Details added: I did Googling first but it resulted in various soft wares for above purpose which I don't want !!
I need to insert 3-4 lines of text to the beginning of a text file. The file is a largish MYSQL dump, the result of a backup shell script. This shell script should insert the required text.I've wrestled with sed, but lost.
I have to delete a certain line of text from the a textfile via ubuntu's shell scripting.I have done research, and it seems that most people advocate the usage of sed /d option. sed makes does not edit the text file. Hence, most options I discovered involved the use of a temporary variable/textfile and then overwriting the old file with the temporary new file. Is there anyway whereby I can bypass the use of temporary storage containers? I hope there is any magical combination of commands to edit the file directly.
I want to display something in my text view widget in glade using c code. that's all right. now I need to attach a save button beneath the text view.so that on click the text view content should save as a txt file..
I want to display the contents of a particular log file (simple text file, I mean in Linux). But there is a problem: The contents need to be organized in a fixed format. Have a look at this log file:
So, while displaying the contents of above file on a web page, I want to format the field names found in the log file: User Name:, Reported Problems Description:, and Remarks:. These fields may contain a variable length of text and no specific line number is assumed for them to appear on.
Well, what I am trying to do may sound wierd to some of you. The filed "Reported Problems Description:" can possible contain text which embeds colon (.
since some days I have a strange problem with KMail (1.13.5) in KDE4.5.5. When I try to copy some text from an email and past it to any other program (e.g. Openoffice), not only the marked text will be pasted, but a kind of HTML code including the text.
This bug is not OpenSuse specific. I found the same bug in a Fedora mailing list (of course, whithout an answer): Strange Copy/Paste behavior in KMail 1.13.5/Kontact 4.4.8
a sed command to add a text before line number in text file? I have text file with 500 lines, and i want to add 3 more lines with text after line 300, OR before line 302, isn't no problem.
Some more HTML code... I would like to cut the above text so i get this: Sometext on multiple lines like this.Sometext on multiple lines like this.Sometext on multiple lines like this. Sometext on multiple lines like this.Sometext on multiple lines like this.
There are other HTML files with similar cuts I need to do, but once I have the method for doing one, I am sure I can do the others.
I think the two logical strings to cut between would be:
I am not sure if these strings are always the start and end of the line respectively, is this makes a lot of difference! Then the HTML tags would need to be stripped to get the text on its own.
I know the commands for removing tags, but searching for a string like class="IOSSectionTitle", and cutting everything before it etc is something I am finding challenging.
Just thought I would add that the HTML does not nec. appear on logical new lines throughout the file and there may be unexpected new lines, but as far as i know the class="IOSSectionTitle" and <img always appears as a string without any new lines between those characters.
I made a string key-value mapping struct in C, and functions to add and remove entries. I would also like to write a function to read in this file format:
I currently have a set up in vim so that when I type "<leader>ns" it takes any given word and turns it into a sub "sub word(){}". I also have it when I type "<leader>nc" it creates a doc comment section that is "blank". I was wondering if someone could help me out with combining the two so that when I typed <leader>ns it would create the doc comments with the word already in the Subroutine: line and create the new sub routine aswell. I'm trying to understand what I have (downloaded from the internet) and only doing so so. Code:
" Put cursor over word and hit ,ns to create new Sub nmap <leader>nc o #------------------------------------------------------------------------------ # Subroutine: # Function :
