OpenSUSE :: Create And Host A Simple Website Using LAMP And Drupal?
Feb 14, 2010
I wanted to create and host a simple website using LAMP and Drupal. I read an article in a Linux magazine a while back on how to do this, but can't seem to find any instructions. Can someone direct me to a site or link that has step by step instructions on setting up lamp and drupal?

how to create a website using LAMP. Take completed website and port to a web server and run.
System I am currently running an HP Pavillion laptop 500G HD, 6G RAM, dual boot Fedora 10 and Vista.
Questions: How should I partition HD to allow functionality of LAMP and to later transfer to a online webserver.
I have read several different rational on partitioning the disk. Do I really need a /tmp, /var? Currently I have / /boot, /swap, /home, /usr. Is this okay to start? Will it make transferring the project more difficult for "official use?
Should I not use the laptop at all and create a separate machine for this purpose only?

Are there programs for this? Really really simple page layouts that you can edit and host from a graphical desktop that has your web browsers and Pidgen and VLC media player and everything running on it at the same time?

I am trying to uninstall my LAMP server and my Drupal 7 installation. Unfortunately I cannot find any instructions on uninstalling Druapl from my system. The ones that exist are far too old( < 2008 ) to be relevant. Could someone please direct me how to go about this? Note: I did not use Synaptic for installation. I downloaded the file from the drupal.org site.

I need to create a simple diagram - basically, a small binary tree with labels on the nodes. I would probably posting that as a graphic illustration for a forum or blog post (but not at these forums).Looking at KDE menus, "gimp", "mtPaint", "LibreOffice draw" and "Inkscape" look as if they might be possibilities. When it comes to drawing, I'm am all thumbs (hopelessly incompetent). So what do you folk suggest as an easy way to get the job done.

I'm running with Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition and I have LAMP server installed on the machine. I'm wanting to host my Automotive Detailing website that I'm almost done with off of that server. I have decals made up for my car and friends cars with the domain that I have registered on it. Now, can someone please tell me where and how to put the files for my website on the server and how to configure everything so I can get it up and running ASAP?!? I'm fairly new at this Ubuntu and what not so I need a detailed tutorial
So this is what I need to know:
==> Where to put the webpage files
==> How to configure the server to open it up to the world wide web
==> How to change the IP Address to Static and how to know what to change it to.
==> How to point the registered domain to the server.
Like I said I'm fairly new at this so please be as detailed as possible!

I have a small network of an Ubuntu server 10.4 , Debian server, Win XP, and an ubuntu desktop 10.4. I have configured a DNS server and DHCP server successfully on my ubuntu server, also a slave DNS server on Debian. I recently configured apache2 as part of LAMP on ubuntu server, but when I type my ServerName in the URL of my Win XP browser, I get this response: The webpage "mansour.net" cannot be found DNS error occurred. Server cannot be found. The link may be broken.
I have an A Record in my DNS zone file for mansour.net and have that as my ServerName in apache2 Definition file, but I don't know why it is not working. I am trying to learn to install and configure various servers on ubuntu.

identify the right network structure for a data intensive website, built on LAMP. I'm thinking of a load balanced website, and that it should have a mysql master/slave setup server. I'm no expert in this area, so any online resources are welcome. You can check out the website [URL] - but it will have 10 million items once the hardware can support it.

My daughter wants to build a little website that looks a bit like a magazine for her family and select friends. Front page has links to stories or articles she'll write. She would also like to post some pictures for people to see and maybe have people add comments if they like. I'd like to host it locally on our home server and limit access with an id and password. I would use something like DYNDNS.com to point family and friends to our server where they could login. I have an Ubuntu Lamp server setup to install what we need.

I have access to a unmanaged dedicated server on the net. I am considering loading Ubuntu Server to this for web/mail/ftp serving. If I install Ubuntu Desktop to my local machine is it possible for me to administer the server using Ubuntu Desktop (using the GUI)? I connect to the net over ADSL. Any guides/advice for setting up Ubuntu as a web/mail/ftp with a key focus on keeping to secure? I know how to install LAMP but as I have root I need to learn a little more than I did when I was on a shared host.

I am having a time at trying to get a simple FTP setup to my Var/www/html folder for my canned Joomla website. I can log in anon with no write permissions, but it will not log in using any users I have setup on the server. I've googled a bunch, but nothing to correct my 530 authentication failure when I try to log in as one of my user accounts for the server.

I've heard that all one needs to do to host a website is to install apache2 and then create my own webpages in /var/www. Like I could start out putting a file "index.html" in /var/www and it would show up on the web.If this is true, what would my website address be on the web?

I'm looking to create a server (probably LAMP) i need all my programs to install at one time. SOME of my programs are not in the repos and all of them aren't .deb. Some of them are .rpm. I also can't guarentee internet connection, at least not during install, so no apt-get. on a note about the internet i'll probably be getting clear internet. I also plan to connect to the server from my phone and other computers. I know the server needs a static ip but what other configuration does it (should it) need.

I can't reach my website via http. I'm not sure but I think I just need to unblock port 80. But I can't find where a firewall has even been installed on my machine. ufw status returns inactive. sudo aptitude search firewall shows nothing installed.
Nslookup mydomain.com returns the correct IP. Pinging works.
But typing in the domain name or IP through the web browser just results in a "Network Timeout...Taking too long to respond."
Wget just hangs looking for MySiteName.com:80
VirtualHost has been set up and apache restarted. Site works fine with the ServerAlias I have assigned in my hosts file.

I'm trying to setup my Ubuntu 9.10 laptop to host a small website that I can practice and learn stuff with and I'm a little stuck at the minute.
I have got Apache2 and the LAMP stack installed okay, along with phpMyAdmin and can give my external IP to anyone with the http:// and anyone can view my website that way but what I want to do is have my IP resolve into a domain name like ooloo-website.net but I don't know how to do this.
Is there any way that I can do this like register my IP to a free DNS and domain website without buying a domain or using one of those free ones like ooloo.webhost.net or do I need to host everything myself like DNS and the domain? Can I even do all of this myself?

setting up a web server and somehow searched the net for the best secured and optimized combination of packages. To focus on an example, let say you wanted to put up a website that's most likely similar to myspace / friendster / facebook or other related social network with high traffic. It would be nice to have a step-by-step guide on what are the requirements and best combination of packages to use. I'm sure this would be of best interest to everyone specially those who are just starting up. As we are going to focus on a webserver to host our own website lets assume we have the initial hardware/software resources for our server such as
A Core2 Dou 2.33Ghz CPU with 4Gb memory, 80Gb HD
Ubuntu 10.10 Server 64bit.
HardwareWhat would be the advisable internet connection speed that can accommodate the type of website that we're putting up. (please consider that we are going to host this at our own home)I pressume the hardware mentioned above is more than enough but just incase, Do we need more hardware resources than the one mentioned? (considering the huge amount of photos that will be uploaded)Software What would be the best choice combination of packages for the following ?Http Server (ie. nginx, apache and etc)
Email Server (ie. postfix, courier and etc)
Email Client (ie. roundcube, squirell mail etc)
Database Server (ie. mysql, postresql and etc)
[code]....
