CentOS 5 Server :: DHCP Config ( No Subnet Declaration For Eth0 )?

I had a server that I use for Radius DNS and Trying to put DHCP on it I have My pool in it seems right. I have 2 adresses aliased one being a helper IP that the router will send the request to. When I try to start the dhcp server I get the following.

I'm establishing a server that runs DHCP server, NAT gateway and VPN server. It have two physical interfaces, one for intranet and one for internet. The NAT gateway will give internet access for intranet. Another site will connect to this server by VPN. I need the server to assign a different subnet for that site other than the local site. Do anyone know how to config the DHCP server? Should I config the client classing, and how to do it?

I have a network with multiple subnets from 10.12.056.0 to 10.12.060.0 using net-mask 255.255.248.0 and one gateway 10.12.056.1. I want to setup a dhcp server and wonder how should I config it? All the hosts in the network using the same net-mask and gateway.

I've got a bit of a question. My network is laid out like this:
The role assignments are thus:
Firewall - sorts out the passing through to the 3 different networks, and acts as the traffic proxy.
Windows 2003 server - Does Active Directory and DNS
CentOS server - FTP and DHCP
Now, my problem is I need the CentOS server to be able to assign IP address to both networks, however, the CentOS server can *ONLY* be connected via the one interface to the firewall. It needs to assign the Windows 2003 server and the eth0 of the firewall an IP address via static DHCP, but it also needs to able to assign the clients dynamically via any address in the 10.23.1.0/24 range. I was thinking that I would be able to create static only assignments for the servers via their MAC addresses, and only have 1 dynamically assignable entry for the clients, and then get the firewall to allow ports 67 and 68 to flow freely between eth0 and eth1, but I wasn't entirely sure of the best way to do all this.

I would like to setup 2 linux machine each with two ethernet cards, and need to connect to two subnet e.g. 192.168.*.* and 10.0.*.* . If one linux machine out of order, the other will take over all the services(1 httpd and two named(192.168.*.1 and 10.0.0.1 as server ip). What network config is best and easy to failover to other machine?

I am trying to enable DHCP so that it will give out IP's to some XP boxes when they boot. I have had success doing it dynamically, but not statically using the host declaration.

My question is, what should the subnet declaration be if I only want to hand out static IP's like this? Also, the host is the same name that is specified in /etc/hosts correct?

I've been racking my brains over the past few days trying to figure out why my NIC card (network interface card) won't show up in the ifcfg-eth0 file.When I configure a new server (like this one) I always go to:/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 and from there I usally see the name of my NIC's manufacturer's name and the hardware MAC address.Then it's only a simple process of entering the server's IP address, netmask and gateway and I'm up and running in no time...But not in this case! the ifcfg-eth0 file is completely blank! There's not ONE single line of config info in it... (?)The server runs an Intel core 2 duo (dual-core) CPU with 1 gig of RAM.
I've even re-formatted the drive and re-installed Centos 5.1 on the darn thing 3 times and it simply won't work.The server cannot resolve when I do a wgetIt also gives me a 'resolution problem in the named configuration'.What I don't understand is that the 2 small LEDs on the Cat 5 cable lights up and flash at what appear to be regular intervals here.

5.10 Breezy configured as machine controller. Works great eth0 is a fixed IP to communicate with controller comms board. Not easy at all to alter - the comms board is hard coded to listen on eth0 for commands.
I can use eth1 as the default gateway and ping google.com, etc. But when I now attempt to communicate with the controller with netcat, e.g.

I obviously never get an answer since the request is passed via eth1. Using the -g option with netcat doesn't work either. I had a look at iptables but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I want. How I can still use eth0 as my communication port to the controller whilst eth1 is the default gateway?

I have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.

Running on Debian Lenny, installed dhcpd with apt-get install dhcp3-server. Machine has two NICs: 192.168.1.1/24 and 10.100.1.17/24.
My /etc/dhcpd.conf:
DHCPDARGS=eth0
subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
range 192.168.1.100 192.168.1.200;
option routers 192.168.1.1;

Trying to start dhcpd reports "no subnet declaration for eth0 (192.168.1.1)" and "no subnet declaration for eth1 (10.100.1.17)". Is dhcpd using /etc/dhcpd.conf, or do I have the wrong config file? If it's right, why is this failing?

I have an ubuntu 11,04 samba domain server, I want to also configure this machine to work as a dhcp server, however this have give me some issues with te windows 7 workstations, my guest is that it have something to do with the iptables because those station do join the samba domain went both server and workstation are conected to a router.

I have a VMware farm where:
- DHCP is in use to give machines IPs
- Machines go up and down all the time
- All IPs are on a certain subnet
- VMs update DNS (we don't go by IP)
- SSH is in use
I would like to disable StrictHostKeyChecking only for this subnet, because IPs change all the time and editing known_hosts usually only works for a few days before the IP changes again, and once I get enough entries, there are tons of conflicts.
I tried the following in ~/.ssh/config:

I am trying to configure dhcpd to provide two different pools of IPs- one for dynamically named hosts specific to MAC addresses, and another for everyone else.So, a machine with X MAC address connects, gets an IP from e pool, and the server updates DNS with the address under a specific hostname.For the other pool, it just assigns the IP, no DNS updates.The "class" function doesn't appear to allow anything but pattern matching, and I can't find anything that specifies what "allow" and "deny" options therere for the pool command.Here's my config so far - will this do what I want?

I'm no expert on DHCP. My problem is that i have a CentOS 5.5 server on which i want to install a DHCP server. I have two NICs where eth0 has access to the internet and where eth1 should act as an DHCP server.
I have installed dhcpd and this is how my dhcpd.conf file looks like.

When i start dhcpd on eth1 i get no error messages but when i connect any devices to eth1 they don't get any IP. I cant find anything in any logs about devices trying to get an IP address. I dont have any firewall rules in iptables.

I have installed Centos 5 on a virtual machine (esx4i). I set it to obtain an IP address from the DHCP sever, which is a broadband router, it has been given an IP address of 10.10.11.159 the router is 10.10.11.1 but I can't ping the router and I can't get any access to the network! I have a SCO Openserver server on the same physical box and it works fine so I know the network card & cable is ok.

I would like to install CentOS 5 to a NFS root. My NFS server is not CentOS. Is there a way to tell Anaconda to use NFS for root? Is there a way to mount some NFS space at /mnt/sysimage and get Anaconda to use it? I supposed it should be possible to either move an already installed CentOS system to NFS and rebuild initrd with a rescue boot or it might be possible to do a manual install using rpm directly to install the packages onto some NFS space. The first would require a local disk temporarily. The latter would be an excessive bunch of tedious work.

I have this in my /etc/networking/interfaces file:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
iface eth0 inet dhcp
pre-up iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.rules
post-down iptables-restore < /etc/iptables.rules
but eth0 doesn't automatically come up. I have to do a "ifconfig eth0 up" and then do a dhclient eth0 in order to get an IP after each reboot.

During installation I set eth0 to use dhcp to get an IP address. I then installed gnome and networkmanger which handles my interfaces and works fine. But during bootup the system pauses for 5 seconds or so while it polls for dhcp. It then times out and gives me a 169.254.xx which is then replaced when networkmanager starts up at the end of bootup.
How do I stop the polling to cut out the 5 seconds?

this should be trivial for all you big sysadmin guys My box is a firewall/gateway. ETH0 is on the Internet-side, and is fully auto-configured (DHCP client) from my ISP. ETH1 is on the LAN-side, has DHCPD enabled, and I route the traffic to/from the Internet via iptables (NATting, of course). Everything works pretty good, except for the DNS-server assignment via DHCP: how can I configure dhcpd.conf to assign the SAME dns-server I receive from my provider on ETH0 to all my PC on ETH1?

I am attempting to get this network card running under CentOS 5.2 but have had no luck. Some sites say to use the sk98lin driver, others the skge, which I can't find at all. I have tried multiple versions of the driver in rpm but none seem to work. The card shows under the network manager but will not get an IP address from the DHCP server.

I got a CentOS server setup as a dhcp server using dnsmasq. I followed this guide more or less: [URL] So, the problem seems to be concerning the DNS server on the clients. In windows I get the "limited connectivity" icon for the network, and when I select troubleshoot it says the DNS server does not respond. Issuing 'ipconfig /all' clearly shows the IP of the CentOS machine as the DNS server, which should be correct, yes?
ETH0 is working as WAN connection and that works great.. no problem with the WAN connection at all on the CentOS machine. ETH1 has the IP 192.168.0.1 and mask 255.255.255.0 When starting eth1, it sometimes says that it can't start eth1 because the IP 192.168.0.1 is already in use.. but that is most certainly not the case. Maybe there's some kind of issue here that messes with the DNS? What's mind boggling is that it works great on a linux machine (dhcp client) and on a windows xp machine. but it does not work on the windows 7 laptop and a vista laptop and a pda device.

I have a Bind DNS caching-only server setup that is working. I am bringing up a new AD domain controller that will also be a DNS server for that AD but I don't want it responding to any DNS queries except those that are AD related.So, my goal is to leave this caching server as the primary DNS server for stations on the network and have it forward requests for the AD domain to the domain controller.My understanding is that I just need a forward zone for that domain pointing to the domain controller. However it does not seem to be working.So that leaves me to think that my caching server is not forwarding properly.
For example, this AD is going to have a naming convention of hostname.mydomain.local.If I do an nslookup and specify the domain controller's IP address as the server, I can query addresses that exist in DNS on that server, such as dc1.mydomain.local.However, queries to my caching server times out (I get a response from the caching server if I query mydomain.local but none of the objects in that domain) Here is my named.conf file:
