Ubuntu Servers :: Config DHCP Server To Assign A Different Subnet For VPN Users?

I'm establishing a server that runs DHCP server, NAT gateway and VPN server. It have two physical interfaces, one for intranet and one for internet. The NAT gateway will give internet access for intranet. Another site will connect to this server by VPN. I need the server to assign a different subnet for that site other than the local site. Do anyone know how to config the DHCP server? Should I config the client classing, and how to do it?

I had a server that I use for Radius DNS and Trying to put DHCP on it I have My pool in it seems right. I have 2 adresses aliased one being a helper IP that the router will send the request to. When I try to start the dhcp server I get the following.

I have a network with multiple subnets from 10.12.056.0 to 10.12.060.0 using net-mask 255.255.248.0 and one gateway 10.12.056.1. I want to setup a dhcp server and wonder how should I config it? All the hosts in the network using the same net-mask and gateway.

I have an ubuntu 11,04 samba domain server, I want to also configure this machine to work as a dhcp server, however this have give me some issues with te windows 7 workstations, my guest is that it have something to do with the iptables because those station do join the samba domain went both server and workstation are conected to a router.
This is the script I use at boot

Does anyone know if you switch networks Where you have your servers hosted on a Non-DHCP Network, and you switch your IP addresses, then do you have to switch change/assign your new gateway address? I'm not sure if its manually assigned? How do you do it? Also what about nameserver resolving?

I've got a bit of a question. My network is laid out like this:
The role assignments are thus:
Firewall - sorts out the passing through to the 3 different networks, and acts as the traffic proxy.
Windows 2003 server - Does Active Directory and DNS
CentOS server - FTP and DHCP
Now, my problem is I need the CentOS server to be able to assign IP address to both networks, however, the CentOS server can *ONLY* be connected via the one interface to the firewall. It needs to assign the Windows 2003 server and the eth0 of the firewall an IP address via static DHCP, but it also needs to able to assign the clients dynamically via any address in the 10.23.1.0/24 range. I was thinking that I would be able to create static only assignments for the servers via their MAC addresses, and only have 1 dynamically assignable entry for the clients, and then get the firewall to allow ports 67 and 68 to flow freely between eth0 and eth1, but I wasn't entirely sure of the best way to do all this.

I would like to setup 2 linux machine each with two ethernet cards, and need to connect to two subnet e.g. 192.168.*.* and 10.0.*.* . If one linux machine out of order, the other will take over all the services(1 httpd and two named(192.168.*.1 and 10.0.0.1 as server ip). What network config is best and easy to failover to other machine?

I have an embedded device for which I've created an html configuration page. This page allows you to set static IPs, dhcp, and can scan for wireless devices.My problem is that in order to access the device it requires that it runs as a dhcp server otherwise people are not assigned an IP and so can not access the embedded devices static IP. (This config page is for the laymen and so they are not the type who are able to set up their own static IPs). One of the potential options is to have the device connect to the network on eth0 acting as a dhcp client. However this prevents me from running a dhcp server.One solution I can think of is running a dhcp server only if it doesn't detect another dhcp server running on the network.

In researching current ldap issue (not being able to do anything but log in) it seems that there are no concepts of privileges, roles, etc. that could be assigned to a user in LDAP.
I've only seen fields that deal with name, organization, etc., not with application-specific access control.
I have to assign certain access privileges to users authenticated via LDAP server based on the privilege level mentoned in the LDAP server. How to attain this.

I have a VMware farm where:
- DHCP is in use to give machines IPs
- Machines go up and down all the time
- All IPs are on a certain subnet
- VMs update DNS (we don't go by IP)
- SSH is in use
I would like to disable StrictHostKeyChecking only for this subnet, because IPs change all the time and editing known_hosts usually only works for a few days before the IP changes again, and once I get enough entries, there are tons of conflicts.
I tried the following in ~/.ssh/config:

I am trying to configure dhcpd to provide two different pools of IPs- one for dynamically named hosts specific to MAC addresses, and another for everyone else.So, a machine with X MAC address connects, gets an IP from e pool, and the server updates DNS with the address under a specific hostname.For the other pool, it just assigns the IP, no DNS updates.The "class" function doesn't appear to allow anything but pattern matching, and I can't find anything that specifies what "allow" and "deny" options therere for the pool command.Here's my config so far - will this do what I want?

The router is set up to use a 64-bit WEP passphrase. From what I've read, that means four different hex keys. One of which is meant to be active. I've tried each of the four generated keys, one-by-one. I've also tried putting them all in and activating one, but the syntax seems to be wrong.
I read Alien's Wiki on it, and various other sources. People keep suggesting wicd, but I want it to work with the rc.inet1.conf file first. Just so I know what needs to be entered in order for that to happen. I have a desktop to set up eventually as well, and that shouldn't need wicd.

I'm curious if anybody can shed some light for me in this department. We're in a large environment with a Windows DHCP Server. We have been tinkering with LTSP on Edubuntu as thin and fat clients. It works great, but right now we just have 1 server handling the lab, which works fine unless we want to expand, which may be very possible.
These are the instructions I received:
Login to your windows server and load the DHCP configuration screen
Create a DHCP reservation for the MAC address you obtained
Add the configuration options below to enable the machine to boot from the LTSP server
017 Root Path: /opt/ltsp/i386

I'm curious, what if I want to have multiple Ubuntu servers on the network that I want to have bootable? For example, let's say I have 3 labs, and 3 servers. Server A to Lab A, Server B to Lab B, and Server C to Lab C. I want all C's computers to boot to C, and B to B, A to A, etc.
1 - How would I add multiple entries on the Windows DHCP Server to allow all 3 (A B C) servers to boot?
2 - How would I be able to isolate the clients so ONLY Lab A clients boot to Server A, etc?

I noticed that my internet connection wasn't automatically brought up each time I logged into Fedora so I opened the system-config-network tool and edited my network adapter by checking the box marked "automatically start at boot/login." To my surprise, the connection went down and upon trying to click on the device to let the manager bring up the connection the greyed-out phrase "device not managed" appeared underneath the device name and wouldn't allow me to connect.
Even when I used ifconfig/dhclient to get the connection up nothing happened. I could get the router to assign an IP address through DHCP, pinged a few sites to make sure it was legit, but still couldn't use firefox to browse anything. Seems as if network manager GUI is conflicting with command line attempts to bring the network up. I'd like to permanently disable system-config-network if possible because it's acting screwy!

I have some beginner questions about DHCP, Avahi, and configuring a small home LAN.Suppose I have a dynamic IP address assigned by my ISP, which requires DHCP be enabled in my dsl modem/router/"firewall" [sic]. Suppose for simplicity I have just one PC behind the dsl modem.I think "enabling DHCP" in the modem/router means that a DHCP client runs on the router, which communicates with a DHCP server run by my ISP when I boot up a PC on my LAN. Is that guess correct? Can I get DHCP to assign a particular local IP, say 192.168.1.10 (which is not the one taken by the router--- for this discussion, let's say that is 192.168.1.0) to my PC each time I boot it up?
Now suppose I want to build a stand-alone firewall, so that my LAN will have the firewall and the first PC behind the modem, with the first PC virtually behind the firewall. By default, I think these will both have DHCP clients running which I need to configure properly. The firewall should also have a DHCP server which should control how local IP addresses are assigned, correct? I should try to arrange that the LAN has only DHCP server, only one NTP timeserver, only one DNS nameserver, correct?My first PC seems to have installed an autorun client called Avahi, which performs DNS multicast services and incorporates something called zeroconf which seems to have something to do with remote desktops, which I don't need and which is a potential security hazard. But it seems that Avahi is an intrinsic part of the KDE desktop and cannot be removed. Just want to be sure that Avahi can coexist comfortably with dhcp3-client, which is also installed on that PC. I'm currently working with wireless network kernel module.
This device initialiy gets its IP address by using DHCP,
but the problem is sometimes the new IP assigned for internal reason.
So what I want to do is assigning new(changed)IP address into exsiting
interface, or occuring DHCP renew event to cause update IP from kernel
level. This shold be done without user's intervention, so whenever the
kernel module detects IP changed(via underlying wireless
communication), it automatically correct update its IP address.
Q1) any functions or api to cause DHCP renew event from kernel level?
Q2) or any functions or api to assign IP address to specific interface?

Ive tried on multiple occasions to setup a dhcp server, but all the google searches return legitimate results it seems, and ill set everything up, except the last few instructions i have to configure /etc/dhcp3/dhcpd.conf and /etc/default/dhcp3-server, but ubuntu says its not there.Im running Ubuntu Server 11.04 and using nano to edit files

I have an Ubuntu 10.04 server/router with IPv6 internet connectivity (I have an internet routable /64 subnet). Since I have this abundance of IPv6 addresses I wanted to try and assign v6 addresses to specific users on the local system. I've been looking at ip6tables with packet mangling but I don't seem to be able to find out how to do this or if this is even possible.
Current configuration: eth0: Local network, has the /64 IPv6 public range active and the IPv4 LAN range. tun0: 6in4 tunnel with a ISP assigned public v6 address. eth1: Standard IPv4 internet connection.
All users on my system use the v6 address configured on tun0. I want to force them to use the /64 range which is configured on eth0. If I can force users to use a specific v6 address, I'll configure more then one v6 address on this interface based on the users userID on the system.

In my instructions for LAN boot, I am up to the next step :"You need the DHCP server software. If your distribution has none then you can use dhcp-3.1.3 and compile it."ok, so in F11 Live USB . . . I have downloaded and extracted files - they are still in Download directory . . .

I am trying to set up a DHCP server for a network that does not go on the Internet using fedora 14. I have tried several site and every one I look at has a different dhcpd.conf file. I have tried many and every time I try to start the service they fail. Like I said it does not go on the Internet. No matter what I do when I try to start the dhcpd service it fails code...

I have a ClarkConnect (CentOS based) box running as my home router on a RR connection. I had the DNS servers set up to use Google's DNS server. I want to change them back to the local DNS servers but I can't find an obvious/easy way to get those address short of a) reconfiguring the router's network to DHCP them (would rather not interrupt everyone) or b) calling their tech support (kill me now!). Is there a command line tool/command I can use to query the DHCP server on the external NIC to see what DNS servers it would set me up with w/o munging my existing setup?
