I have a Intel WIreless 3945 card, wit ipw3945 installed on Dell E1505. I use NetworkManager to function and everything is ok. I can connect to wireless networks that have no security, or WEP security, but I just can't connect to networks with WPA or WPA2 securty. What can be my malfunction?
View 2 Replies View Relatedi cannot find how to sucessfully patch the ATH5k driver for aircrack for better support on injection. i tried this...[URL] but it was a no go for me... first... i untarred it to my desktop, then i patched the ATH5k driver but batch 2 failed and i had to take out the switches in the patch command to work. can someone please give me (and im sure many other people) a litteral step by step to patch this damn ATH5K driver, i got another one i want to patch with i found on the aircrack-ng that i want to patch as well but the same issue is there...i run Ubuntu 10.04 with the 2.6.32-25-generic kernel, no custom anythings, not even compiz.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter an upgrade to 2.6.27.25-78.2.56.fc9.i686 in March, my Atheros wireless stopped working. (It had previously run without a hitch for 9 months). Anyway, I finally got around to working on it today and using the "WiFi misery" thread managed to consistently get it to start manually via these steps:ifconfig wlan0 up
iwconfig wlan0 essid netname key xxxxxxxxxxxxx
click on "activate" in network device control (gives error msg, but works)
During boot-up, I get "Invalid argument" errors for "SET MODE", "SET BIT RATE", and "SET ENCODE".Currently NetworkManager service is disabled, but when enabled doesn't seem to change any of the above.I'd like to get back to automatically coming up wireless, if possible.
Cannot get wireless to work. Hostapd.conf had nothing inserted in it so I put the following in which I found [URL]..So it connected right away and then disconnected after opening one of my tabs. I went back into hostapd.conf and it had erased all the info I put in there. Is there a way to keep it from deleting this info every time. Because it worked great for a brief second. Otherwise it just keeps going on, then going off. It stays off most of the time though. Right now this is what my iwconfig reads:

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use CentOS 5.4 to set up a secure laptop, largely because of it's SELinux functionality. Unfortunately I couldn't get wireless to work properly using the default NetworkManager so I installed wicd. Initially it buggered up my whole installation but after relabelling files using SEL I can now use my system again. but.. I can't use it with SELinux enabled, as it denies the required accesses for wicd to work. I also get similar SELinux denials for wpa_supplicant. A couple of snippets from /var/log/audit/audit.log -

I am trying to get a wlan connection using my new Wlan-Stick. It has a Atheros ar9271 chipset.

the "pre-shared key may be incorrect" I have rechecked the key twice and it is correct (actually it cannot be wrong because they file was copied from a working system). I have also tried to connect to a WEP encrypted network using iwconfig without success. I get no error when connecting but iwconfig tells me "Access Point: Not-Associated".Because of the "Device or resource busy" I tried a "lsof | grep -i wlan" but there are no results.
if the NetworkManager uses wpa_supplicant? I normally dont use NetworkManager and decided to try it. I started it and tried it out and it works with WEP and WPA! I cant figure out why using the iwconfig command is not working by itself for WEP. WPA working with NetworkManager is just a bonus though.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I run wpa_gui I get a "Failed to open control connection to wpa_supplicant." message and an endless stream of "PING failed - trying to reconnect". I'm sure wpa_supplicant service is running, it also seems to be working correctly (program logs show activity when I connect to a wpa secured network via gnome network manager).
The location that ctrl_interface (in /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf) points to (/var/run/wpa_supplicant) is an empty folder. I'm able to connect to a simple WPA network at home, but the one at my university needs special configuration and I couldn't get it to work by editing the .conf file. That's why I need the gui. My network card is Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter, the driver is ath9k.
right now im using the nm-applet but i dont like it. it produces lags. i think the periodical ssid/broadcast check might be the cause :/it lags every minute or so...in games and skype it is very annoying! if there is a possibily to disable these scans in nm-applet it would be fine too.for the moment im "using" this wpa_supplicant config:

I've got my laptop working with my UNI's rather complex wifi setup.
I need to get access to my wpa_supplicant file so i can use it with my nook and a few other devices that i need to get wifi access.
Network manager, i know, does all the wpa stuff dynamically and through scripts, so is there any way that i can get network manager to generate my wpa_supplicant config?

First- clean installation of Ubuntu 10.04, with default network manager installed, I had a taskbar icon, and it could see the available wireless networks, could not connect to them, even the ones with no security. Purged all network manager files suggested in various threads here, Installed wicd- it could see all available networks, could connect to unsecured networks, but not to my own secured network. Password was correct in the wicd/configurations file. Removed wicd, and reinstalled network manager from synaptic. I have to network manager applet. When I try to add it to the notification area with alt-f2, applet-nm, I get a brief flash of something in the notification area, but no applet.
System=>Preferences=>network connections shows no wireless connections, but I'm obviously connected to something (probably my neighbors unsecured network) since I"m reaching this webpage. I tried to run sudo wpa_cli from the terminal to see what network the computer is connected to, and it gives me this error:

EDIT 6 Dec: More detailed log from wpa_supplicant I'm using Ubuntu Studio 10.10 x64. I want to get wireless networking going manually. My wireless networking works successfully in Windows 7 x64. I can get it working successfully without encryption but when I try and use WPA-PSK, wpa_supplicant gets stuck in a loop between GROUP_HANDSHAKE and COMPLETED, as shown in the log below.

After updating to 10.04, I was able to connect easily to my network. However after getting a new router "Linksys WRT610Nv2", I was initially able to set up my wireless "WPA & WPA2 Personal"-encrypted network, but for whatever reason it stopped working completely.
My Asus EeePC 1000H does recognize my network, but its does not want to connect anymore, whatever I try. If I use no encryption, or go wired, everything works well. If I go on other networks everything is ok. I even reinstalled Passwords and Encryption Keys. Other computers (Windows-bad XP and Vista, laptop and desktop [sorry, but working on it to get rid of them!]) have no problems, either wired or wireless connecting with my network. Booting under 9.10, everything works ok as well. In Ubuntu 10.04, going into Network Connections and Edit my network, this is what I see:

I was using Fedora 14 for some months and my wireless was working fine. I've set up a hidden network with WPA2 Personal authentication. My laptop has an Atheros AR2413 802.11bg NIC and my modem/router is a Topcom Webracer. Yesterday I upgraded to Fedora 15 and I can't login to that network now. The only way to login again is to boot with the old Fedora 14 kernel that still shows up in my grub menu.I've searched this on these forums there are plenty of people with the same problem but the only suggestions are that the network card isn't supported by Fedora or the network card doesn't support 802.11bg.some suggest changing the authentication method in the router... and the only one who got it solved was by rebooting the router... None of this addresses the fact that the same hardware/network was working just fine in Fedora 14. And I still can't find a way to have a wireless WPA2 connection with Fedora 15.What can I do to fix it?

I know the SSID and the super-long ascii code (with symbols?). gnome nm and wicd have been useless. I have been connecting to my school's wpa2 using wpa_supplicant + dhclient directly, so I tried adding it in there:

What happens is a string of connects and then immediate disconnects when runnign wpa_supplicant. It says "CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - disconnect event - remove keys" then starts all over. Can't get a stable connection but I must be close?
Well I recentelly read some tutorials about "cracking" wep networks, and seems like it's kind of easy ( I Haven't tried'em out since I don't have my laptop right now, but i'll try them as soon as i get it back )So i'd like to change my network protocol to wpa2, but I REALLY GOT NO IDEA on how to do this.Does someone knows about a tutorial on how to do this?

After installing the ubuntu 10 release I have to say I am really impressed. This is going to be the kids homework machine!I had one challenge during the installation and that was getting wireless networking going. I set up Win XP first (to get the ndis driver and validate connectivity).After installing ubuntu I could not get the adapter (Netgear N300/USB) to connect to our router (D-Link DIR-825) using WPA2 and AES. Finally I got it to work after setting the router to only TKIP encryption. This works ok but causes the adapter to operate at a lower connection speed
