I am trying to install set up of wanpipe for E1/T1 card. First of all downloaded the source code from [URL] and did all step needed for rpmbuild and copy the source code into /usr/src/kernels. Below is kernel information uname -r 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5

Now point is when I run the ./Setup install for wanpipe its ask for path of kernel source which is present in /usr/src/kernels. its show : Kernel source 2.6.18-prep in /usr/src/kernels/kernel-2.6.18/linux-2.6.18.i686 is not supported! and set up is halted.So can somebody guide me why kernel source is not supported.
I would like to get driver source code and list of supported hardware for CentOS.If one can get (some of) these from CentOS-5.6-x86_64-bin-DVD-1of2.iso, where or how could I get?
I'm running CentOS 5.3 and would like to know what the "best" or "proper" method is to build a custom kernel using the generic kernel sources from kernel.org. Most of the references I've found talk about modifying the current CentOS kernel using the RPM way. I really want to have the latest kernel due to some important security issues that haven't been addressed in the current CentOS 5.3 kernel.

I am a newbie to CentOS. I use CentOS5 for NetFPGA project.
I installed everyone except building driver for NetFPGA hardware. When I enter the "make" command, it gives an error like:

In the manual, it says that:
-If you get an error message such as "make: * /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.ELsmp/build: No such file or directory. Stop.", then kernel sources are need to build the driver.
But I don't know which package I have to install. My kernel version is 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5.centos.plus-i686.
how to install redhat 6 beta kernel source rpm under CentOS 5.5? I just download the kernel source rpm-- kernel-2.6.32-19.el6.src.rpm. And I tried run "rpm -i ", it was failure. I'm assuming the setup program is using the output from uname -r to determine the kernel, the problem is the kernel sources I've got from yum do not jibe with the uname value.
i was not able to install alsa...showing the error checking for directory with kernel source... Please install the package with full kernel sources for your distribution or use --with-kernel=dir option to specify another directory with kernel sources (default is /lib/modules/2.6.18-194.el5xen/source). my friends installed the alsa for cent os 5.4...how to rectify this...

I am running an Hp Pavillion dv6000 with the Broadcom card that never seems to work for Linux. I recently talked with my friend who said he found a way to get it work.following his instructions I opened Synaptic and checked the package bmcwl-kernel-source to be installed.I went through the process of it all and it said it had install successfully. I restarted the computer and when I tried to enter my operating system I got this error "Kernel panic - not syncing : VFS : Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block(8,1)" I have previous versions of Linux on my computer so I can still get in to those if need be but I don't know how to undo what I did or why it isn't working for that matter. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I am getting this error and how I can fix it?
I've been trying to install nvidia drivers yesterday, so I went to runlevel 3, ran the .bin installer and it came up with error: missing kernel-devel and kernel-source.
So I go yum install kernel-devel, it does, but it doesnt find anything like kernel-source.
How do I fix this issue? I have Fedora 12, and I ran drivers from:[URL]..
I installed the latest kernel liquorix (2.6.35) but when i want to install the Nvidia driver downloaded on the Nvidia website (256.53), i have an error message because Nvidia doesn't found the kernel source tree.
I install linux-image-2.6.35-6.dmz.2-liquorix-686_2.6.35-16_i386.deb, linux-headers-2.6.35-6.dmz.2-liquorix-686_2.6.35-16_i386.deb and build-essential. I don't understand why the installation doesn't works.
It sounds like he's making a difference between the kernel "source code" and the kernel itself(as in the downloaded file/ files) but the way he talks about both is the same.So then, if one had already "installed" the "kernel sources code," why would he need the "tarball with the newest Linux kernel?" He's already "installed" a kernel, right?
Just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.35 and now my broadcom 57780 WLAN card is not recognized. Trying to reload the proprietary driver fails. Anybody else with this specific card got it working on 2.6.35?

I read somewhere that if you run nVIDIA, that a PAE kernel won't work with it. Not supported, IIRC... Any truth to this? - My linux is (so it seems anyway) OK & I'd rather not mess it up. But I WOULD like to "use" all 4G of memory I have.
The microdia driver although notprovided by the manufacturer or ubuntu was available online and supported upto 9.10...but not instead of supporting it natively the support has been completely removed...i am able to compile the driver but it doesnt get inserteda complaint was also made on the launchpad bugs section and the ubuntu brainstorm page also but no action seems to have taken.....

I am looking to buy my own unlocked/never-locked mobile broadband modem, and I want it to work well on my 64-bit 10.04 Ubuntu system (triple-booting MacBook 4,1). Is there a list of mobile broadband modems supported in the linux kernel out there somewhere? I did try to find one myself, but no luck. The Huawei E220 looks good, but it is discontinued.
I install php in my centos 5.5 , but when I use yum install krb5 gcc-g77 libpng10 libpng10-devel I get the messages. No package available. The centos it's don't support these package?
I have just upgraded to 11.3 and work in icewm (I have kde apps installed but no other desktops). When I boot up the computer it gives me this console error message:

I downloaded the binaries, and changed file permission to execute. When I double click on it, it asks me if I want to run it in a terminal, it starts out by giving me a message about looking for a component, and then the terminal closes, and nothing else happens. Is Netbeans not supported under CentOS 5.3?

Background info: Trying to get the i82975x module (drivers/edac/i82975x normally) on CentOS 5.4I'm using the latest stock kernel. I was trying to get edac monitoring working when I noticed that I couldn't find the i82975x module. I downloaded the full kernel source and it's not an option to enable. I realize it's a older kernel, but I noticed i5400 edac support was there, which is a newer chipset.
