I have just upgraded to 11.3 and work in icewm (I have kde apps installed but no other desktops). When I boot up the computer it gives me this console error message:

I've looked for the problem on google. The solution is to change the frequency of the monitor. Mine supports only 75htz max and on the error message I have 77htz, what's why it's not supported.
The problem that to change the frequency for lunux i have to be logged in linux in order to type commands in the terminal.
But I can't see a thing, only the message about the mode not supported, so I can't type anything.
I found some solutions here but i can't do what they ask, because I can't boot and the message doesn't disappear. [url]

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've just tried to install X on my new debian system which had a nasty side effect.
I can see the bootcycle up to "Waiting for /dev to be fully populated." and then the screen switches into a display mode unsupported by my display. I've had problems like this many times before because the display returns it's capabable of resolutions like 2048x1536, which it just isnt. I've had to disable autodetection whenever using this display. One thing to note thought is that it's NOT X that's messing up the display. It's setting the wrong display mode even before the filesystems are mounted. And I've already uninstalled X with no change either. Also recovery(single user) mode has no proper display output either.
what is setting my display to the wrong mode?
Tried to install the ATI proprietary drivers (fglrx), but when I boot up, all I get is "Video Mode Not Supported". I suspect my refresh rate or resolution is the problem, but I don't know how to change it from the terminal (ctrl-alt-f1)

I have a question regarding application/process execution and it's the following:
Is it possible a user application (which will regularly be executed at user-space) to be re-written as a kernel-module to allow the entire execution to be under kernel-mode (i.e. no system calls should be needed)? I am not saying that this is the right thing to do; I am just asking if it's doable.
It sounds like he's making a difference between the kernel "source code" and the kernel itself(as in the downloaded file/ files) but the way he talks about both is the same.So then, if one had already "installed" the "kernel sources code," why would he need the "tarball with the newest Linux kernel?" He's already "installed" a kernel, right?

I am trying to install set up of wanpipe for E1/T1 card. First of all downloaded the source code from [URL] and did all step needed for rpmbuild and copy the source code into /usr/src/kernels. Below is kernel information uname -r 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5

Now point is when I run the ./Setup install for wanpipe its ask for path of kernel source which is present in /usr/src/kernels. its show : Kernel source 2.6.18-prep in /usr/src/kernels/kernel-2.6.18/linux-2.6.18.i686 is not supported! and set up is halted.So can somebody guide me why kernel source is not supported.
Just upgraded my kernel to 2.6.35 and now my broadcom 57780 WLAN card is not recognized. Trying to reload the proprietary driver fails. Anybody else with this specific card got it working on 2.6.35?

On my desktop a version is installed and/or configured that way, so I easily can choose a region in the code and simply click on a menu option to comment out this block of code (i.e. at the begin of each line in the selected code two '##' are put). That is very convenient.
However, on my Laptop, running F12 and emacs 23.1.1, this menu option is missing! I searched within google and found the hint that by pressing 'C-c #' I also can comment out a selected region. But on my emacs it says: 'C-c # is undefined'. Am I missing something? Anyone any idea how to fix/install/update/solve this problem, so I can easily choose a couple of python lines and comment them out?
I read somewhere that if you run nVIDIA, that a PAE kernel won't work with it. Not supported, IIRC... Any truth to this? - My linux is (so it seems anyway) OK & I'd rather not mess it up. But I WOULD like to "use" all 4G of memory I have.

This causes problems not only with the display of the console, but with the display of X as well.
I have an Intel GL40 chipset on this laptop, with an integrated GMA4500 GPU. I am using the latest stable Intel video drivers (2.10.0-1), and have tried using the git drivers. In addition, the problem has been occuring since December, when I install Arch linux on this machine, I have just now had the time to address it. So basically, the issue has persisted with all driver versions since mid-December to the latest releases.

I looked at alsa page, and no information I have seen there. oldcpu, as I understund you, is not so important what audio chip is, but it is important to determine what hardware audio codec a device has, right? Looking at getting a new laptop for some of the guys in my office, but trying to figure out if any of these wireless cards will be supported by the kernel, hoping not to do any serious kernel hacking to get them working. The cards are

I thought I would try out Ubuntu and downloaded v9.10 and installed within Windows to test it out. But when it came to restarting my computer to finish the install, it would not display anything and just displayed "Mode Not Supported" on my screen (Samsung LE26R87). I did a bit of looking around and tried to see if I could find anything to help, but as I'm new to Ubuntu I could not find anything which I could understand.

I am unable to model the power consumption of various components e.g., processor, GPU, hard drive, memory etc, since there seems to be no way to measure the power consumption of individual system components. Since I don't have a power consumption model, I cannot come up with a power optimization algorithm. I am currently working on Linux. Is there any way to measure/model the power consumption of individual system component?
I have already checked powertop. It doesn't tells the power (watts) consumed by a component (e.g., microprocessor). It just gives information about the power state the processor is in (However there is no way to change the power state by the user) and the processors that cause processor to wakeup.
