View 6 RepliesI have been trying to install Filezilla on a virtual server and my laptop. Both are running Debian 8.1 Jessie. The former is running the 4.1.5 kernel and the latter 3.16.0.
running Code: Select allsudo apt-get install filezilla
installed filezilla on the virtual server. It fails on my laptop:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package filezilla
Code: Select allaptitude search filezilla
and Code: Select allapt-cache search filezilla
brings up nothing.
I assume I must simply add the apt repository. I have only managed to find a repo for Ubuntu at [URL] ..... I don't know the differences (if any) between packages in Ubuntu and Debian but since the repo describes itself as having been ported from Debian, I assume there are differences.
I have downloaded the filezilla package from the Filezilla site [URL] ...., but every reference I find to installing Filezilla on Debian discusses apt-get so this is my preferred option.
I can't install filezilla. I've searched and written the line (sorry can't emember what it was exactly) in terminal, but it didn't find filezilla. I then found another thread and tried writing as shown by aysiu in the screen grab. But, it got to 99% and then after ages said it couldn't finish (see screenshot).

View 1 Replies View RelatedCannot install filezilla For the last two days, I have been trying to install Filezilla from the standard distributions. I get an error:
Quote:
Failed to fetch http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/poo...etdeb2_all.deb 404 Not Found
I want to install filezilla in F15 Or recommend me other good ftp application.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed vsftpd and edited the config. file according to the instructions. I restarted the process. I then installed FileZilla.
I input 127.0.0.1 as my host name, my username and password, and port 21. Connection is successful for a few minutes until I get a 421 Timeout and the connection closes.
While still connected, I have attempted to run the network configuration wizard, only to find a few hitches. The furthest I got was when I had the wizard acquire my IP address from the website (I do have a dynamic IP), and when I manually input port 50000-50050 for it to use, because I have forwarded them on my router.
The test gets quite far, and only fails at this juncture:
Response: 150 opening data connection
Response: 503 Failure of data connection.
Server sent unexpected reply.
Connection closed
What could be going on? I double-checked that my ISP allows FTP on port 21, and all seems good to go.
Ive just insalled Ubuntu 9.10 and installed Filezilla from the Ubuntu Software Centre, however this is only version 3.2.7.2. How do I update this to 3.3.2? Ive downloaded the tar.bz2 file and extracted it in Downloads but how I do install it from here?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. At the moment, the current version of filezilla in the software center is 3.3.1. That version has some known bugs, and the current version of filezilla at their website is 3.3.3 (released more than a month ago). How can i update filezilla? FIlezilla tells me to use software manager, but 3.3.3 isn't there yet. Moreover, they only release the source code without a deb package..

I would like to know if there's a way of using FileZilla or another FTP client without having a web page. My intention is to have my files on a server and download them form time to time from different computers using FileZilla's portable version. It would also serve as a Back-up copy of 'em. If there's no way of doing that, I can get a subdomain from, that is free and without a file limit?

View 5 Replies View RelatedInstalled Filezilla FTP-client, and wants to save the downloaded files to my external OneTouch4 HDD. In Windows, you've got letters for different drives, like c: d: and so on. I understand my external HDD is /dev/sdb1/ in Ubuntu (9.1). My local place is just called "/" in Filezilla,I guess this refers to my root.It shows different folders, like bin, boot, cdrom, dev etc. When I try to type in /dev/sdb1/ here, I just get an error saying it does'n exist, or cannot be accessed.
PS: My external hdd is mounted, it has its own icon on the desktop.
I can't connect to sourceforge with SFTP from filezilla. I'm using the correct username [URL].. and password (Same one as allows me to login to web administration) so why do I keep getting "Authentication failed; Critical error"
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange issue with Filezilla that doesn't affect any other apps.I know my network isnt IPv6 friendly, so I've disabled it in Firefox and in Ubuntu - everything bar Filezilla finds and resolves addresses properly. If I then go to terminal and do an ftp ftp.asdad.com etc, once terminal has resolved the domain, filezilla works - very odd. how I can stop having to do this step in terminal?

i have a windows vista laptop that has a 20GB file that i want to use FileZilla to transfer that over to my desktop. I installed filezilla client on both computers. For host, on vista do i type in the ip address of the ubuntu desktop and then on the ubuntu desktop type in the vista's ip address for host and use the same port numbers? using the vista's ip address as 192.168.0.3 and port 22 and the desktop address is 192.168.0.6 i am getting a message like:
Status: connecting to 192.168.0.6
Response: fzSftp started
command: open "name@192.168.0.6"22
Error: connection timed out
error: could not connect to server
i hit quickconnect on both sides and they both give me same results (obviously adjusted for the ip address). Could someone help me figure out what the heck i am doing? I have not used filezilla before.
I'm trying to recreate a website on a local system using LAMPP. I need to change some file permissions on localhost.
I have tried running a normal Filezilla session, as well as running as root but the system always denies Filezilla permissions.
I know I can do it directly using CHMOD on it's own but I would like to try to replicate the FTP sessions I can run on my remote server where I can change permissions in Filezailla without issue.
I am running Ubuntu on a box with a couple of hard drives, and on a network where we have another Ubuntu machine and a couple of windows boxes. I use filezilla to upload files to other web servers but filezilla will only access files on my main hard drive, not on the second drive and not on the rest of the network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedNew User to Ubuntu by the way. I have two computers, both running Ubuntu 10.4 fully updated and I am trying to bring files from one computer to the other with Filezilla ftp client. I was able to do this before, but I ended up having to reformat because of a driver screwup that I couldn't figure out how to fix. Now I am at a loss on how I managed to allow the computer with the files to connect to the one receiving the files. Computer A is the one that has the files that I am trying to send to computer B. Every time I try to send them over I get a "connection was refused" error.
Typed in the right IP, username, password, and port but still wont connect. Are there any things I have to do in terminal to allow access? I installed firestarter and just disabled it so ports should be open. By the way, I am using FTP because it was much simpler then trying to dink around with Samba and this is a pretty safe network.
- Enabled firewall, forwarded the ports in the events list then we get "request timed out"
- Reformatted> Fresh install >Updated
I have some questions:
1) I want when someone trying to access my ftp domain(not from my home network) ,to ask him for username and password.
2) What is the difference between filezilla and vsftpd? They do the same job?(Ok,i added a user with vsftpd and now, what?)(Filezilla works and i can upload files)
3) When someone tries to connect to my domain(outside of my home network) it shows the "It works" page. When i access my domain from my pc it shows me the files i uploaded! How can i fix this???
4) When i try to connect via another pc (in my home) ,it shows the routers interface!
5) Filezilla works with SSH but when i try with FTP or when i use the wizard connection manger it shows the "connection timed out".I use shorewall and in the shorewall/rules i have "HTTP..SSH...FTP".
