I can't connect to sourceforge with SFTP from filezilla. I'm using the correct username [URL].. and password (Same one as allows me to login to web administration) so why do I keep getting "Authentication failed; Critical error"

I have set up a local server for testing on my home network and installed openSSH. I can login using filezilla and SFTP and can even download files. Error messages saying cannot find directory (the directory I am trying to upload)?
Do I need to configure openSSH to allow this. I am using my usual ubuntu login. Maybe I need to set up another user for SFTP.

They told me that a valid DSA key needs to have ssh-dsa at the start and the username@systemname at the end. CoreFTP generated neither the ssh-dsa header nor the username@systemname footer. I tried with WinSCP and it didn't generate them either. Is there a difference between how SFTP works between Windows and Linux? If I put a useraccount@systemname at the end of the text will it work? How would the Linux system validate that my system is called "systemname"? If it can't validate, what is the purpose of adding it?

I recently set up SFTP on my server and in doing so wanted to create a jail for users. I went through the steps and edited the sshd_config accordingly and got everything to work perfectly. However since doing so I can no longer ssh to that machine as I once was able to do. SFTP and the jail work fine however if I comment out ChrootDirectory /home/%u and ForceCommand internal-sftp in the sshd_config; I can now ssh to that machine however the jail no longer works. I need to be able to have the jail working properly for SFTP along with being able to ssh to that machine. Is this possiblesshd_config: Jail works for SFTP but no ssh

I have done a minimal install of jessie stable on a 2004 laptop with openbox as the window manager. My problem is the nautilus connect-to-server returns "This file server type is not recognized" when entering sftp: or ssh: I have also tried installing Thunar with the same result. I can use cli and connect using both sftp and ssh.
View 3 Replies View Relatedwonder if anyone might have a clue with this. i installed filezilla because i wanted a nice ftp client, but when i tried connecting to the server with filezilla, i get this:

yet when i googled that, i mostly found hints that said "your hostname's invalid" or "check the spelling of your hostname". well, those aren't it. i can login to this ftp server successfully through both firefox and by using a gigolo-gvfs-thunar combo.i even uploaded a file with the thunar route. and nslookup is able to see it. so what's with filezilla? by the way, this ftp account of mine is very old....i've had it for probably 10 years, and haven't logged in for 5. i'm surprised it still works.
also, why am i trying to work with filezilla when i have gigolo-gvfs-thunar? because thunar locks up and becomes completely unresponsive for a couple of minutes whenever i try to do any ftp'ing with it, even though it works. if i even so much as click on a file in my ftp directory, i have to wait two minutes before the window comes back and highlights the file i clicked.
UPDATE: just tried connecting via ftp in the command line, and no luck. so apparently it's not just filezilla. maybe i just can't ftp directly to that host anymore? but if so, then why are firefox and gigolo able to connect? networking is not one of my strong points, so this is confusing to me.
update again whaddya know, maybe i'm slowly starting to get some brains when it comes to networking. though i won't say i "figured it out"....but i did make it work. i just used the ip address nslookup reported and was able to ftp to it with both filezilla and the ftp command line. i forgot to mention that i'm behind a firewall (my router), and i guess the hostname is not in the router's DNS, if my tiny understanding of routers is correct. but connecting to the ip address directly is apparently not a problem.
I am using debian squeeze. I haven't changed much and I am a newb at this sorry. I can use the SFTP, but I can't use the FTP under any account. I can't find a conf file or anything for this.

I downloaded Slackware64-current to give it a try on my laptop and all went well as usual. However when trying to connect to another computer from Dolphin via sftp I was informed that sftp is an 'invalid protocol'. I can use ftp, though. Same thing happens with Konqueror. Using Konsole I can successfully start sftp, although that is not exactly what I want or need. For me, this is really a major problem as my office computer can only be accessed at home via secure shell. I need to be able to upload/download files and folders from there and from other machines. I wasn't really aware of how heavily I depend on this until now. Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, is there a fix or a workaround?

Which has left me puzzled as I have an open port. Does the username have to be defined somewhere? E.g. the machine acting as my SFTP server can be logged on to locally as alphatwo so that's what I logged in as (with the correct password). Is this correct? If so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I might rectify it? I want SFTP set up so I can copy PHP files from my laptop to /var/www/html/ on another PC (across the home network).

I know that Sourceforge banned Iran, and I'm an Iraninan citizen. It seems the error is related to a file named : andale32.exe . I downloaded this file. but I don't know what to do with the file. I installed vsftpd and edited the config. file according to the instructions. I restarted the process. I then installed FileZilla.
I input 127.0.0.1 as my host name, my username and password, and port 21. Connection is successful for a few minutes until I get a 421 Timeout and the connection closes.
While still connected, I have attempted to run the network configuration wizard, only to find a few hitches. The furthest I got was when I had the wizard acquire my IP address from the website (I do have a dynamic IP), and when I manually input port 50000-50050 for it to use, because I have forwarded them on my router.
The test gets quite far, and only fails at this juncture:
Response: 150 opening data connection
Response: 503 Failure of data connection.
Server sent unexpected reply.
Connection closed
What could be going on? I double-checked that my ISP allows FTP on port 21, and all seems good to go.
Ive just insalled Ubuntu 9.10 and installed Filezilla from the Ubuntu Software Centre, however this is only version 3.2.7.2. How do I update this to 3.3.2? Ive downloaded the tar.bz2 file and extracted it in Downloads but how I do install it from here?

That version has some known bugs, and the current version of filezilla at their website is 3.3.3 (released more than a month ago). How can i update filezilla? FIlezilla tells me to use software manager, but 3.3.3 isn't there yet. Moreover, they only release the source code without a deb package..

View 3 Replies View RelatedInstalled Filezilla FTP-client, and wants to save the downloaded files to my external OneTouch4 HDD. In Windows, you've got letters for different drives, like c: d: and so on. I understand my external HDD is /dev/sdb1/ in Ubuntu (9.1). My local place is just called "/" in Filezilla,I guess this refers to my root.It shows different folders, like bin, boot, cdrom, dev etc. When I try to type in /dev/sdb1/ here, I just get an error saying it does'n exist, or cannot be accessed.
PS: My external hdd is mounted, it has its own icon on the desktop.
I can't install filezilla. I've searched and written the line (sorry can't emember what it was exactly) in terminal, but it didn't find filezilla. I then found another thread and tried writing as shown by aysiu in the screen grab. But, it got to 99% and then after ages said it couldn't finish (see screenshot).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having a strange issue with Filezilla that doesn't affect any other apps.I know my network isnt IPv6 friendly, so I've disabled it in Firefox and in Ubuntu - everything bar Filezilla finds and resolves addresses properly. Filezilla just gives me the responses below, trying to connect to 1.0.0.0:21 for any domain I try to FTP to. If I then go to terminal and do an ftp ftp.asdad.com etc, once terminal has resolved the domain, filezilla works - very odd. how I can stop having to do this step in terminal?
