I installed CentOS, so far it looks awesome. One issue, I cant get the wifi to work. When I type:
ifconfig eth1 up
I get the folllowing error:
SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such file or directory
I suspect that the wifi isn't working because of a driver issue. When I boot into my computer with Backtrack 3 Live CD, my wifi works fine. Is there anyway I can extract the driver from Backtrack 3 and plug it into CentOS?
Two days ago the Update Manager installed kernel 2.6.32-25.After a re-boot Suspend is broken, it takes about 30 seconds to suspend and will not recover.Also the wi-fi won't work at all.Booting with the previous kernel I have no problems.Has this happened to anyone else ?I was thinking of installing 10.10 64bit, I wonder if it will work!

my Eee PC has various troubles with the current Lucid kernel (2.6.32). These include, that the wifi won't work and that I can't use hibernate. A netbook without wifi is a little bit useless I even tried the usual bugfixes, that you can find in the web (installing the original RAlink drivers, updating to 2.6.33), but nothing really worked.As a consequence, I downgraded to Karmic again, were everything just worked fine.My question is now, is it possible to run Lucid with the older kernel available in Karmic?

The first time I put it on my computer does not work, so I installed this package [URL] but still not working. Then I search on intenet and found how to make it to work here [URL] that I do is add "blacklist rt2800usb" at the end of the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf . After that usb wifi worked, but I have others problems. Some times it disconnect from the Internet and web pages are loading slow and some times do not load at all. Does any one know how I can make it work well? I am using Debian Squeeze.

I ran yum broadcom-wl and installed the driver for my card no problem. I connected to the internet just fine using my wifi thereafter.
When I shut my laptop down and booted sometime later, the wireless connection was gone and I didn't even see a wireless adapter in the networking applet.
I tried to run insmod wl and insmod wl.ko and that failed.
So... after using yum to install the broadcom drivers, how can I make that install 'permanent'; so I don't lose my wireless adapter each time I reboot?

I have an Asrock A330GC, with onboard ethernet, and an Engenius PCI card for wifi.I installed ubuntu server 9.10 no problems, and it picked up my ethernet in the installation with no difficulties.I couldn't get 9.10 to do what i wanted, so I tried installing 8.4 instead. This however didn't pick up any of the drivers, so i couldn't get online.So i reinstalled 9.10, only to find that no couldn't find network in the installation.Absolutely NOTHING has changed, the ethernet cable still plugged in, and if i plug same cable into my laptop, it works fine.Any ideas people?ifconfig doesn't mention any eth0, just lo, with an ip of 127.0.0.1 and amask of 255.0.0.0 which i'm fairly certain means its dead
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get 9.10 to work with my D Link DWA 125 USB WiFi antenna for days now. I have searched these forums as well as other forums for answers. I have tried all of the suggestions I have come across, some simple, some complex. Nothing works. I have tried ndiswrapper, blacklisting drivers, re-installing, modifying the 2870sta.dat file......nothing works (or maybe I'm doing it wrong...I don't know).
I have a fresh install of 9.10 .Can someone please walk me through this and show me what I'm doing wrong?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've bought this Blumax USB WLAN adapter 9009 (ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless Adapter). I was specifically happy to read in its specs that it supports Linux [URL].
However, it turned out that the co-packaged CD drive doesn't contain anything Linux-related, and the support page online has gzip package with many files I don't know what to do with [URL]. The online support swallowed my query and hasn't returned any answer.
So, now I am wondering what to do. I don't feel so competent as to be able to compile the drivers on my own, specifying several specific parameters. At least it doesn't compile with default params. how to move forward with this. Apart from returning the device, because I'm too far now from the place where I bought this.
I have having trouble getting the WiFi to work on my Gateway laptop model M6752. It has the Marvell Technologies Ethernet card. I am attaching the output of various commands like lpsci - nn, ndiswrapper -l etc. I have followed the instructions from one of the threads and got the driver installed. It even says that the device is present. I don't know why it is not connecting.Also, Under System->Administration->Network Tools, it is showing on Local Loopback and wired eth0 interface. The wireless interface is not showing up there.

The wireless doesn't seem to work and I have no idea how to solve this.
In gnome I can see NetworkManager display the network ESSID.
I have entered the key but no success, it tries to connect and then times out after about 1-2 mins.
I have tried to change the encryption from WPA2, to WPA to WEP to nothing but the same issue.
In a terminal/shell running ifconfig/iwconfig I can see eth1 as the networkinterface.
How can I investigate this further. If there was an IRQ collission or something it would not be showing the ESSID right?
I have a presario compaq computer and I don't know how to get my wireless to work while using ubuntu. Do i need to install things or what is it that i need to do?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a cheap and stable wifi card that will work with Ubuntu 11.04. My Linksys WMP300N is creating a conflict with the native Broadcom driver (causing the system to freeze after light network traffic) and ndiswrappper isn't working for 64 bit Ubuntu.
Does anyone own a relatively cheap (less than $40USD) PCI card that works flawlessly, or close to flawlessly with 64bit Ubuntu 11.04? I need to get off of this 35ft ethernet cord. Cat5 + crossing top of stairs = problem in the future.
I have some serious trouble getting the Wireless connection working, using Fedora 13 on a Dell XPS M1710 laptop which has an Intel Pro Wireless 3945 ABG adapter. I have previously tried an earlier version of Fedora I think it was version 10, where it worked flawlessly out of the box, but all versions since then, simply wont work properly. I got the Fedora 12 64 bit working at some stage, after using hours and hours trying to get it working, and suddenly it did. Don't know what suddenly made it work, since I haven't made any new changes, just re-checked the old ones. But I needed to use Skype which is only in 32 bit, so I had to reinstall to a 32 bit version, and then couldn't get it working again.
I can get it to work with any Windows version, no problems. I have also tried with PCBSD version 7.x, 8.0 and today I tried the new 8.1 just to see if that worked to, an no problemos, it works perfectly out of the box, I could set it up in 5 minutes, even though I don't have any previous knowledge of PCBSD, other than a few short trial installs.
It has to be said that I am a newbee to any Unix/Linux, so I don't know how to troubleshoot properly, and have only tried a few things which I have picked up from other forums. But unfortunately nothing seems to work. The first thing I did after a clean install was I looked in the Fedora 13 documentation, that says I should check that the NetworkManager is controling the interface, I tried to start up NetworkManager but nothing happens, no reaction what so ever. I tried rebooting and then restarting NetworkManager, but no matter what I try, I won't work, not even if I am using the root account.
I noticed right after the install, that there was a choice of connecting to a hidden network in the lower right corner of the screen, but while I have been trying to get the NetworkManager to work, it has suddenly disappeared (I have disabled SSID broadcast on my Linksys router. I've tried to run lsmod and it seems like the right firmware is running, I think it was called IWL3945 or something like that. I think there were around 3 such modules running, plus a Dell module.
Another important note, before I even touched the the WIFI, I connected to the Internet via my normal fixed LAN connection, and installed all the updates that were available and rebooted the system. I am using an LinkSys WAG354G V2 ADSL router, where I have disabled SSID broadcast. Is there a kind soul out there, who has a good idea of what the problem is, or a good idea of how to troubleshoot it ? since a laptop without a WIFI connection is not of much use to me.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.

Last week used lxde11.3 and no problem connecting. Today I switched to xfce11.3
and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?
After instalation of Suse 11.4, wifi worked totally correctly, until the first restart. Then it ceased to work. It looks like everything is working correctly until WPA authentication.

So the wlan interface authenticates, and then disauthenticates by local choice? a bit about the reason points to wpa_supplicant. Many peoples report that they have multiple copies running, and killing them solves a problem. Sadly I've only one copy, and after being killed it restarts.

I can't connect to the internet as the wifi hasn't worked since I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10...It might be a hardware problem as this problem occured, when I tried to install Windows 7 but it didn't work on my computer...than I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 10.10, but than the wifi just wasn't working...but it was working before the win 7 installation and during the installation win 7 recognized my wireless connections...and even when I tried installing win 7 AGAIN it still recognized them...but every time I want to install Ubuntu 10.10...wireless just doesn't work.

There aren't any linux drivers and it seems to need a realtek program to connect. I'm running debian Squeeze. Wine doesn't work to run the installer, I don't know if I copied the realtek program from a windows computer and ran it with wine if it would work then or not.
