CentOS 5 :: GTK-Build-Converter Not Found?

Apr 23, 2009

I am pretty new to linux and trying to figure things out as I go. I have two linux installs, one is Fedora 10 and the other is CentOS 5.3I have an application that when I compile gives this error:gtk-builder-convert: command not foundI have done some research on these forums and other places, and I think (although not 100% sure), that my problem is that this command is not available until GTK 2.12 or higher. From what I can tell, CentOS has 2.10.Am I on the right track that I somehow need to update my GTK to 2.12 or better? I noticed on gtk.org the latest release is 2.16. However, its seems no package is available for CentOS? Am I out of luck or is there an option to get this updated? On my fedora install, this works fine and I noticed in the getting started forum it says that sometimes Fedora packages will work, is that a safe option?

I was using Daisy Dock with KDE 4.4.1 and I've clean installed back to stock 4.3.5 and cant' find it anywhere...is it only in the Factory KDE repos? (I've found it in the build service, but don't have dependencies version numbers high enough) hard to believe it was added after 4.3.5. Got, dropped down a version on the dock and it installed manually from build service.

There is even much more error output but it looks like it is basically the same issue.

I have installed the VM's to a folder on my raid. When I killed the processes and restart VMware Workstation I cant start a VM.

CentOS 5 :: Live Cd Kickstarts Fail To Build Or Boot

Jun 7, 2010

I have tried building the minimal & desktop Centos 5 live CDs to no avail.Depending on the build environment, they either do not build at all (Centos 5, i386) or they build but kernel panic when I boot them (Fedora 12).I've tried various tweaks to the provided kickstart files but I have not had any success. It is important to note that I have written some very impressive (according to others) Fedora kickstart builds so I am at a loss why the stock Centos files fail.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?I suspect it has something to do with the livecd-tools or syslinux versions but all of the versions I have tried it with make no difference.

CentOS 5 :: Want To Build 'ELF Shared Object' Kernel / Not 'ELF Executable'

Nov 9, 2010

I've been trying to use tracepoints on a newly installed Centos5.5 download, and crash when I call register_trace_sched_switch, which maps to tracepoint_probe_register(sched_switch, my_func) in tracepoint. h/DO_TRACE, where my_func is the function I want called back on a thread switch. I'm trying to do this from an installable module. So I downloaded the sources for 5.5 (current, 2.6.18-194), with the intention of kprinting my way through the above problem.Unlike the downloaded kernel, which is an "ELF 64-bit LSB shared object" (I'm building for an Intel Atom), when I build using "make" in my rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel-26..18/linux-2.6.18.x86-64/ directory, I get an "ELF 64-bit LSB executable". When I try to boot it, I get the complaint "Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format".

The closest thing I could find on the web, was a suggestion, for some powerpc system, to use the "ELF executable" format instead of "ELF shared object", the opposite of my issue, and that such could be forced by using a CONFIG-RELOCATABLE manifest.I couldn't find any .config manifest that looked likely to produce the result I want.

CentOS 5 :: Can't Install Any Rpms From Custom Appliance Build

Jun 15, 2011

We have an appliance with image being installed from CD/DVD installation
This appliance image is based on CentOS 4.7 kernel/installer/etc. Everything works fine, we ship this product for about 2 years. Recently I had to move it (port everything) to CentOS 5.5 Everything went fine and it works fine except one minor thing )) We can't install it from CD/DVD image yet. Actually it start fine, finds kickstart file, creates partitions correctly, copies install image to harddrive, but fails the next step when it tries to install RPM's

The message we get:

Quote:
the file termcap-5.5-1.20060701.1.noarch.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source. If you exit your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require re-installation"

CentOS 5 Hardware :: 5.6, 64 Bit And ASUS K52J - Unable To Build The Kernel?

May 19, 2011

djmack-5/19/2011-I have purchased an ASUS K52J (intel i7) laptop. I have installed Centos 5.5 (64 bit) from CDs. The I got all the updates and it's now up to 5.6. I have two problems.

(problem-1) - Using the GUI (System->Administration->Hardware) I can get to a Device Manager screen. It shows a JMC250 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller. Using the GUI (System->Administration->Network) I can only see the wireless (wlan0) as configured and active. The ethernet card is not seen as ether 0. I've seen there are downloads to solve this problem, however I've been 100% unable to do and or understand them. I don't know how to build the kernel and I don't have any source code. I only have the binaries (I think). Is there a version of the kernel that I can put on CDs that has understanding of the ether card I referenced above?

P.S. I've downloaded a binary fix and it says it needs 20 or so dependencies (I have zero idea how to get those).

P.S. I've downloaded a source fix and I couldn't get it to install (I'm not a linux kernel build knowlegable person). I don't have the source either.

(problem-2):As stated above I need direct (RJ45) access to the laptop. I currently have the wireless card working but I have no idea how to get this to work with httpd, ssh, scp.I can access things via a web browser right on the laptop. I cannot access this laptop via a web browser from any other box. I cannot access this box via ssh or scp.I disabled the firewall and I disabled the SELinux security.I am stumped as to why I cannot see this ASUS laptop via httpd and/or ssh/scp.I can ssh and scp to other linux servers but these servers cannot ssh or scp into this laptop.

OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: 20 TB Software Raid 5 Build - Locked Up And Array Would Not Restart After Reboot

Mar 25, 2010

I have a 10x2tb disk array that i'm trying to build into a single software raid 5 i have tried this 2 times now the first it made it to 58.7% and the machine locked up and the array would not restart after a reboot. On my 2nd try all was looking good until about 50% i noticed that the speed dropped in 1/2 and that ksoftirqd/2 is taking up a lot of cpu (about 90%) the md0_resync and md0_raid5 are also taking 60-90% when the build started they took 7%. when i do a dmesg i see a lot of the message compute_blocknr: map not correct.

For a little info on the physical setup this is running on an Atom 510 with 2GB of mem the drives are connected to an addonics 4-Port RAID 5 / JBOD SATA II PCI Controller using the sil3124 chipset. I'm using 2 addonics 5X1 SATA Port Multiplier connected to the controller to get the 10 drives attached. All drive show up and don't seem to have any issues. I'm running a fully updated as of 3/20/10 version of centos 5.4

I will let this continue to run over night but i expect it to be locked up by morning if it follows what the last attempt did.

My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}

Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels

Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

CentOS 5 :: Build A Bootable System Image On An Attached Hard Disk On A Running Machine?

Feb 27, 2011

I would like to build a bootable system image on an attached hard disk on a running CentOS machine. The hard disk would be moved to a headless server, where only SSH access would be available. It seems that all the documented install methods assume that the installation runs on the taget machine. In this case, I would like to create a bootable system image of CentOS on a running host system. The new install mage would generally have a newer version of CentOS than the running host system where the image is created. Also, I would prefer
to do a text-based install.

The reason for all this is that I have network access to several remote machines. I can ask disks to be moved between machines, but I have no physical access. In order to do software testing, I would like to have several system disks with different installed CentOS versions. It would be easer if I could build the system disks on one single machine. The hardware an all machines is very nearly identical.
