Notice that "chmod" and "touch" are part of the package coreutils which gets installed only after these commands are used. I'm seeing a similar problem with selinux being referenced before the libselinux package is installed. I can boot the resulting image but after the kernel boots it panics because it cannot find /dev/root which might or might not have something to do with the errors above.

Apr 7, 2010Since RHEL is similar to CentOS posting it here.
Upon booting from DVD, i get the below error: "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
I have IDE Sony DVD RW AW-G170.
BIOS Setting:
Downloaded the CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-DVD image from centos.org from DVD.torrent using bittorrent file.
When booting from the DVD, it gives me the boot prompt:
Upon pressing enter, the log messages of the boot detect the media drive as: hdc: Sony DVD RW AW-G170 IDE ATAPI CD.
The below steps occur:
1) Select the keyboard type: selected us
2) Select the Language : selected us
3) Select the image:
- Local CDROM
- Hard Drive
- NFS Image
...
...
selected Local CDROM
Then the above error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
The booting steps does not ask the for media check step.
The below methods have been tried to solve the problem:
- Burnt the image in another 2 DVDs but the same error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
- Upon burning the DVD image , selected the DVD read speed: 8x. Upon burning the DVD selected 18x for burning. and then tried to boot with that DVD
- At the boot prompt entered : linux hdc=cdrom replaced hdc=hdb but the error remains.

Nov 8, 2010I'm wondering whether my server has been hacked by someone trying to cover their tracks. When I log in now, I get a message saying "bash: /bin/ls: No such file or directory", and although 'which ls' tells me it's '/bin/ls', it is as if the command does not exist. Note that this NOT a path issue: I get the error when typing '/bin/ls' (and '/usr/bin/ls', which I thought worth trying). I tried to 'sudo chmod +x /bin/ls' and the operation was not permitted.
OK, so thinking I'd somehow hosed things, I did 'sudo apt-get install --reinstall coreutils', hoping to reinstall ls etc. I get this:

Sep 10, 2010After installing ns-2.34, evtg worked fine, however I wanted to install the crcn (cognitive radio) add-on I had a lot of prablem in the Makefile.in. However the crcn is tested till ns-2.31. I installed ns-2.31 but after installation I cannot use ns. It doesn't enter to the program. It gives me this msg:The program 'ns' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
apt-get install host
bash: ns: command not found
however doing apt-get install host is not the solution, it install another kind of command. I don't also think the problem is from the path because I added this and still not working: Maybe I got the PATH wrong or smtg. What to do ? Any ideas?
