As root, firefox shows that no plugins are installed - does not see flash-plug. For the other user the flash-plugin is there however it only load for the first instance and then will only start again if I reload the page.

After them a unprivileged User (apachds) should run the Service. The same solution I am searching for Glassfish. What can I use for them? I installed CentOS 5.3 without major problems, and customized the installation to my heart's content, but I still do not have flash plugin active when I first open firefox. I have to close the first firefox window and from the second instance of firefox, the flash plugin works without any problem.

I am going to remove root access via SSH which seems fine but I don't know how to add a new user, do I have to create a group first or are there existing groups I can add a user to, and does it matter which group I add a user to if I want this user to have root access with sudo?

I then try to log on to Centos as root, and I can't....it says "incorrect passwd"! So then I log on as another, regular, but not root, user, with that passwd, and boot up into Centos. if I try to "su" to root, with the new root passwd, again it says its incorrect. there is no "system admin" passwd set. I checked!. I need root access within Centos!

I'm running a server with CentOS 5 where the software that needs to run on the server uses ifconfig to verify the system IPv4.The problem is that /sbin isn't set for the user that is supposed to run the software (sadmin) which means the software can't execute ifconfig and thus terminates.now the workaround I've been using is simply to input.

All server daemons work fine but only start if the user is logged in.
How do I set the SSH server to start whenever the PC is turned on, rather than when the user is logged in? I read the chkconfig man page online but couldn't find anything.
Plus I put a script in my startup services to be run whenever the computer boots (I'm guessing when the users logs in). How do I go about setting that to run too whenever the system boots instead?
Can someone assist me with recovering/resetting the password for Root via Single User Mode in CentOS v5? I've modified the kernel line using Single, S, and 1 but it appears that these commands are being totally ignored as the server continues with the boot process and displays the GUI logon screen. The server in question is a VM box running on ESX v3.5 U4. The person that created this VM is no longer employed here and I've exhausted everything I know regarding Single User Mode.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI no longer have access to my root desktop. On a session I attempted to change the root username but i apparently assigned it a wrong directory that does not exist. When I rebooted with my new root username, i was instead recognised as a simple user (no root privileges). I tried the console to change to "old" root but root password is not accepted and there is no way to access to sudoer files. it seems that inserting a new username requires root privileges and i am back to square one. Simply logging with old root username and password after restart gives me a blank screen with nothing on it and cannot even reboot.

I am using mint 8 for a 2 weeks, I am noob to linux but I like Mint than any other linux distro which is great alternative to windows. I have a problem regarding password reseting.
1. My laptop automatically get logged in without asking user name and password.
2. I tried to change password for newly created user and root user using graphical way but it does not work.
2. I can perform administrator task using only OEM user which is default inbuilt user of mint.

I then logged in as root (su) and was able to navigate to the file and make changes as root. Am I missing something? How would I edit the sudoers file such that this password would work? I just installed firefox and flash-plugin.The version of firefox is 3.0.10, package is firefox-3.0.10-1.el5.centos.The version of flash-plugin is 10.0.22.87, package is flash-plugin-10.0.22.87-1.el5.rf.But firefox crashes when there is flash in web page, unless disable flash plugin in firefox.

I boot up a Linux appliance entirely in RAM, ie. the image has a Linux kernel and an attached ext2 root filesystem.
Now that it's working, I would like to copy the root filesystem from RAM to a NAND flash memory.
Can I just mount the NAND, run "cp -a /* /mnt/nand", reboot with the kernel command line "root=/dev/mtdblock2 rw", and expect Linux to be happy... or is it more involved than this?
