Nov 28, 2010I want to start VB in headless mode. It is possibe to tell VB to run the VM with a useraccount, but i will asked after his password.
So it is not possible to run it in runnlevel 2 and 3.

Unfortunately the script was made for Debian and as I'm not confident with bash, I'm having some difficulties in making it work under RedHat 5.3 launched as root

these errors to me basically say that those commands aren't in PATH, but I couldn't find them anywhere

Slackware :: VirtualBox Stopped Working For Non Root User After Updates
Oct 21, 2010I haven't used my VB for a few weeks however all of a sudden it refuses to work for my normal non-root user. It's almost as if it can't find libraries in the /opt/VirtualBox directory. Initially it refused to start completely so I linked the required libs into /usr/lib64 ( yip real hack. Then it started but a vm would not start, and comes up with an error about a missing lib again which is definitely there. My non-root user is in the vb group and nothing besides system updates has changed. vb 3.2.10 slack64-current.

When I type dmesg, it shows me a bunch of info which I don't know what should look for. When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-default/updates/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?

have I missed something? Nevertheless in windows local admin has no access to network resources mounted of any other user. If you runas shell (as admin) then admin in principle can't "see" network shares which were mounted (connected) by other users - they are accessible ("visible") per session.

Mar 24, 2010Recently I had updated the kernel but afterwards I can't run virtualbox because the kernel modules aren't loaded.
Virtual box: 3.1.4 r57640 OpenSuse110-x86_64 Open Suse 11.0 running kernel-default-2.6.25.20-0.7
When I try to start vboxdrv manually I can find the message: kernel: warning: `VirtualBox' uses deprecated v2 capabilities in a way that may be insecure.
After I installed the older kernel-default-2.6.25.20-0.6 version I can start virtualbox.
But, much to my suprise, I also get this message with this kernel level. But still, the kerneldrivers are loaded and I can run virtualbox.

Apr 8, 2011gnome commander does not start as root. It started before. Not so long ago i restarted my pc, and i think gnome-commander (as root) did not close. And now it wont start. I started it as: su -> password -> gnome-commander Where can i check or what command should i run to help u guys diagnose the problem.
P.S. i tried to run nautilus as root but that did not work either, and gave me these error:

Oct 15, 2010Somehow an app on this box seems to have disappeared long ago which was configured to start immediatedly with a root login (eg su). Now, whenever upgrading permissions to root or logging (and assuming login as root), an error displays saying "cannot find <application>"
Considering root usually is different than other logins, am not sure where to start looking on an OpenSuSE box. I've tried without success
BASH -v to enable verbose mode before executing a "su."
BASH --debugger to enable debugging mode before executing a "su."
Logout, Login as root and inspect /var/log/ hoping to find some logfile that audits the login sequence, but may be looking at a wrong logfile.

I was able to change this by open up nautilis from a terminal in root and change the permission on the whole drive to my current user so I can access the files, copy & delete the files. I wanted to change some music file information in Kynamo this morning and was not able to since all the individual files still belong to the root. How can I change this permission issue without having to change each individual file?
