Anyone have any luck getting Firefox's binary to run under CentOS 5.5 from Mozilla's web site?

hJust installed brand new Centos 5.6 and skype, according to centos wiki (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype) Getting these errors: skype: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by skype)

Recently I installed gcc-4.3.4 on my suse 11.3( I had to install it because matlab mex compiler was supported uptill gcc-4.3.4. ). It took me several mins to compile the source and installing took another hour.Now, the problem which I'm facing is as follows:1. can't open install/remove software, zypper, openoffice, firefox .. and many other applications.

I've got an Aspire one Linpus Linux Lite and I have a problem installing Skype. When I tried to run Skype after downloading I got the following:

In the terminal window I typed the following: rpm -q glibc And got glibc-2.9-2 How do I install the required packages/libraries?
At work I have 2 PCs on a KVM switch. One windows and a centos 5.3 box. Both are connected to an ADSL service but the windows box is logged into the company VPN most of the time. The centos box comes in useful as I can get to sites the company doesn't like Anyway, today started the same as usual but later I noticed that the centos box was having problems with gmail. I tried to navigate to another site and that is the last internet site I have visited on that box! Whenever I start up firefox I can see "looking up [URL] and then the "address not found"/"page load error" screen.
So a few simple checks - ethernet cable is okay. I have a samba server running on this box so can I access a share from the windows box? Yes. I can ping from windows to linux and linux to windows okay. The only thing I can not do is access the internet which was working this morning. I tried changing the network settings - no proxy, auto detect proxy. There is no proxy server but nothing changed. So, firefox is stuffed. But the network is active.
Today, I try to update firefox by Package Updater but show error by bellow. "Missing Dependency: xulrunner >= 1.9.0.19-1 is needed by package firefox-3.0.19-1.el5.centos.x86_64 (CentOS5updates)"

Cross compiler provided by Fedoraarmv5tel-redhat-linux-gnueabi-xxxeverything on the embedded board works just fine. I have directFB working with no problems, as well as ts_lib... and a lot of software I wrote that is working fine.Recently I downloaded QT open source version and compiled fine. However when I run any demo or example I get :/usr/lib/libQTGui.so.4: symbol powf, version GLIBCXXX_3.4 not defined in file libstdc++.so with link time reference.I tried QT forum, and it has been 2 weeks waiting for an email to activate my account. in the meantime i really need to move on.

Upon booting from DVD, i get the below error: "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
I have IDE Sony DVD RW AW-G170.
BIOS Setting:
Downloaded the CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-DVD image from centos.org from DVD.torrent using bittorrent file.
When booting from the DVD, it gives me the boot prompt:
Upon pressing enter, the log messages of the boot detect the media drive as: hdc: Sony DVD RW AW-G170 IDE ATAPI CD.
The below steps occur:
1) Select the keyboard type: selected us
2) Select the Language : selected us
3) Select the image:
- Local CDROM
- Hard Drive
- NFS Image
...
...
selected Local CDROM
Then the above error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
The booting steps does not ask the for media check step.
The below methods have been tried to solve the problem:
- Burnt the image in another 2 DVDs but the same error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."
- Upon burning the DVD image , selected the DVD read speed: 8x. Upon burning the DVD selected 18x for burning. and then tried to boot with that DVD
- At the boot prompt entered : linux hdc=cdrom replaced hdc=hdb but the error remains.
i tried to install the Java plugin, ( no urls )java -version is working but not the plugin.i created the shortcut like this:Code: ln-s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_21/plugin/i386/ns7/ libjavaplugin_oji.so /usr/lib/ mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so But Firefox wont start java applets

I have a simple wifi setup at my place, with the dsl modem connected directly to the wifi router. For the past couple of days, whenever i try to access some websites it takes me to [URL] web page. with the following error. Theres no website hosted at this address

Couple more thing that i have noticed is
1. when i clear all my history cache cookies etc.....it starts to work fine....for some time.
2. If i type an address like...www.google or www.facebook it shows the same [URL] page with no website hosted error...instead of the default firefox error page.
3. The search toolbar in firefox also doesnt works properly when ever this thing happens......any search will give a 404 error 404 Not Found The requested URL /search?q=test&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a does not exist.
I have a laptop with Redhat 5 installed and a Windows 7 Virtual Machine. The laptop is connected to the internet but I cant access any web pages in firefox - it just comes up with Server Not Found (tried all different sites). I know the internet connection is good as if i go into my windows VM firefox works normal. Ive checked the network settings and tried setting to 'no proxy' and automatically detect but nothing seems to work. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled firefox and still get the same.
Ive tried both wired and wireless but makes no difference. Seems really weird that it works in the Windows VM but not in Redhat which its booting into.
I want to upgrade Firefox to 3.6.3 The latest version should be 3.6.3 instead of 3.6.2. But even so, the 3.6.2 version is not there. Should I keep looking for other mirror that has the available software or do I miss anything?

I'm new to Linux and I recently decided to try out Ubuntu. I used the Wubi installer so it's on Windows (just to see if I liked Ubuntu) and it works fine, but with one exception: the internet (or maybe just Firefox) isn't working. The internet connection worked just fine on XP. On Ubuntu, it says that it was able to connect to the wireless network, but when I try to go to any page on Firefox it just keeps trying to load perpetually and never connects to the site, eventually just showing the "Server not found" page.

we are using firefox-3.0.15 from the CentOS-Repository and the adobereader plugin from the adobe-repository. We have a curious problem with adobereader-plugin in firefox.When a pdf document is displayed via the plugin, i.e. within a tab in firefox, all input fields are disabled. I cannot enter a search string or fill in fields. The cursor and page up/down keys are also disabled. But when I configure firefox to open pdf documents with the external acroreader, everything works fine.
Additional notes:* We are just migrating from SuSE. Some user profiles are working as expected without problems. Unfortunately, I was not able to figure out the important files: I traced all of firefox' file operations on the user profiles, but there are no significant differences between working and non-working profiles (I just compared filenames, not content).* the same adobe-plugin works with firefox 3.0.15 from mozilla.org* I also set up a clean i386-Centos 5.4 from original CD, SELinux disabled, updated and created standard user. I only added the adobe-repository. The same effect, no search avaible.
My father has configured his network and the computer has connected to the wired network. The problem is firefox says the server cant be found at the given address. The wired router says its connected to the network and yet firefox doesn't see the router admin page or network.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using ubuntu netbook 10.10 on my Dell Mini 9 for the past few month without any problem; it connects wirelessly to the internet via a wireless router. Yesterday in the middle of web surfing, suddently firefox cannot see any website outside of my home network (Firefox displays Server not found page). No help when I rebooted a few times and connect to my home network via wireless or even wire cable; it can access files in my network file server (DNS-321) but not the internet. My desktop computer running Windows Vista and ASUS media player has no problem accessing the internet.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using CentOS 5 with a couple extra repos; KDE, RPMforge, adobe and a repo provided by Mike A. Harris which has very new Firefox(3.6.3) and other packages. Understandably I am using an, at press time, unsupported version of Firefox. (I use updated packages at Adobe, KDE, and of Firefox for bleeding edge media support and website testing)
Most sites are working fine, including all sites that I have tried at the www.centos.org domain. Wikipedia, Pandora, AOL Mail, Dell, Facebook, Hulu, Google, Linksys, all of the other sites I have built and many more seem to work fine. When directing Firefox to anything on the CentOS wiki X seems to crash (the screen goes blank for a second, it flashes a Console login such as found at ctrl+alt+F1 and the gives me the X login screen) running services are un-interrupted, but all GUI programs close (Firefox and OpenOffice do recover data). I was running yum from a console and it was not interrupted.
Has anyone else had this issue with a newer version of Firefox? Again it is only seeming to affect the CentOS wiki. Not a worry since I only use the wiki for reference configuring my machine, and Konqueror browses it just fine. Anything I should do to help developers and other users? Bug reports? Ideas on how to fix it?
