I would like to allow an user (example "nobody") to create files or directories in a shared directory but to deny to modify or delete something. How can I do that?Second question, on a file, I know that we can set rights for "u", "g" and "o". But like the NTFS permissions, can we apply rights for each users?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having a cosmetic problem with KDE applications, like Kile, K3b and Okular, under gnome, they do not conform to the gtk theme set for gnome - which I would like them to do. I'm running 11.4 with gnome 2.32.1 and qt 4.7.1
In 'qt configuration', when I set the GUI style (in the 'Appearance' tab) to 'desktop settings' or 'gtk+' the KDE applications look an unnactractive mix of the gtk theme and the default theme for the applications (which looks like cleanlooks). Some buttons and menus conform to the gtk look and others do not. If I select 'cleanlooks' instead, for instance, the KDE applications have a consistent 'cleanlooks' appearance that has no resemblance to my desktop appearance (e.g. I use a dark window background with white font, and the KDE applications have white window backgrounds with black font, they have different window colors.)
Now, if I have 'desktop theme' selected in 'qt configuration' and I have one of these applications open and I then change my appearance preferences, say to another theme (through 'Control Center > Appearance'), the theme is applied consistently, and the KDE application looks like I would like it to. However, once the application is quit and restarted, the ugly theme mixing recurs, that is the theme selection does not get saved to the KDE applications.
As far as I can tell this is a KDE 4 problem not a qt problem, as other qt applications (like VLC) look fine when set to 'desktop theme' or 'gtk+', while KDE 3 applications (like Quanta plus) seem to completely ignore the 'gui style' settings in 'qt configuration'.
Note this is not specific to 11.4 or gnome 2.32.1, I had the same problem with previous versions of gnome in 11.3, and Fedora 14 when I still used it.
When I run GTK applications on KDE, they use the QtCurve theme that matches my color and font scheme as configured in the KDE System Settings application. However GTK applications run as superuser use the old default GNOME, regardless of whether I run them with kdesudo, gksudo, or sudo on a terminal. For example, here's gedit run as superuser on top, and under my normal user account on the bottom: Qt applications run with kdesudo display the default Oxygen styling but use my settings when run with sudo on a terminal. Is there any way to configure the stying GTK applications use when run as superuser on KDE?

I have tried yum update firefox but it did not work and returns following messages Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit Setting up Update Process No Packages marked for Update I know that one way to update is download the latest Tar package and use it, but I want to totally remove my previous installation and use solely one package i.e. firefox 3.5.

From a Windows client, I can connect to it without any login (I enabled anonymous) and I can download from it, but I am unable to modify it or upload files. Unless there is a better way to transfer files between the computers, how can I enable writing on the FTP server?

I have been using Ubuntu 10.10 for a few months now. I enjoy working with it, but there is one strange problem with Open Office (and Inkscape as well). When I attempt to work with either the word processor or spread sheet (this probably applies to other Open Office applications as well) under the default theme in Ubuntu, inevitably I get text and other elements blotted out with line smudges.
I have included a couple of screen shots, but I am wondering if this is a recurring problem with theme support (Open Office doesn't really use GTK/Gnome, does it?) or if it is some strange affect with the nvidia driver that I installed (version 260-19-06, my card is a GeForce Go 7150M). I have also noticed a slightly different problem, with Inkscape, where the ruler marks that track. The cursor movement don't delete themselves when the cursor moves, so the little triangles build up.
I wondered if there was a way in Fedora (I'm running 12) to rename Firefox search plugins as they appear in the search bar's dropdown list.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are looking to monitor and log selected application file systems for file create/modify/delete changes that will also include, user account that changed/deleted the file, file name and date and time of event. Everything I have looked at does not seem to provide all of the information that we need.Inotify seems to monitor modify/create/delete but does not seem to provide the user account. Auditd seems to monitor modify/create/append with user account, but not deletes. We need to provide this information to auditing for Sarbane Oxley compliance.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using Faenza Icons, which is reflected in the icons on the throughout the system except in the windows list applet for certain applications like Firefox and Chrome in the gnome panel. The indicator applet and the menu do show Faenza icons for all the items (including firefox and chrome). I am yet to check for other applications which do not follow the icon theme. I want the windows list to be consistent with the menu and it feels strange that certain applications follow their own icons disregarding the theme I have selected.
View 1 Replies View RelatedStruggling to find right place to post, or for FAQs, or anything, because reading web browser is such a strain: can use Firefox v. happily in MS Windows, but, new to Linux and Fedora (14), I can't physically SEE where to start modifying appearance of either desktop or browser, which seem minute. I'm sure there's a really simple route if someone can just start me off.

As you can clearly see things look like crap. Any way to make things less crappy?
I am running the Aurora browser (Firefox 7.0a2) and the theme looks very wrong. It looks kinda like the Windows classic theme. Using the Firefox in the Fedora repos has the proper appearance. For that reason, I figured it was just the Aurora builds with a bug. I just downloaded Firefox 5.0.1 from the website, and that has the exact same issue as Aurora. On my main PC which runs Ubuntu + Firefox nightlies, there's no such issue. Selecting the "Default" theme does nothing because it is apparently already in use.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to change this icon to match the theme. Seems to be to only application so far that has not picked up the correct icon. The quick launch icon is correct, but not the task manager icon. It seems to be picking it up from some other location before using the one in the theme file.
Under root/usr/lib/firefox there are some default icons. Also under root/usr/share/pixmaps there are a couple icons for firefox. All these match the one pictured. The icon under root/usr/share/apps is the correct one for the theme. These are the only locations that I am aware of with exception of the theme file.
Would renaming the icons under lib/firefox and share/pixmaps force it to use the themed icon?
It seems that this firefox icon is a problem with any icon theme that I use.
I'd just like to do this because firefox's ubuntu default is terrible, with the orange buttons.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 from 9.10, and one of the first things I did was to find a nice desktop theme. I tried several from gnome-look.org and eventually settled on one called "the days of grace"
Anyway, somewhere along the way, while trying out themes, I used a script provided by a theme author which installed the theme automatically, which had undesirable results. I don't remember the theme that did this, so I'll just call it theme x. The theme x script somehow made firefox use theme x instead of the default firefox "tango" theme, and now the tango theme is not available, because the theme x theme supersedes it.
The theme x does not show up in ubuntu's appearance preferences, but somehow it looks to be linked to the theme I chose, "the days of grace." I can switch to a default ubuntu theme (Ambiance, Radiance, etc.) and I have my firefox tango theme back.
Does anyone know how I can delete this theme x theme, and get back the tango firefox theme?
I installed Oxygen KDE in Firefox 4 but when I upgraded to Firefox 5 it was not compatible. The problem is that traces remain and I cannot get another theme to appear properly. I do notice that if I delete ~/.mozilla the problem is solved. However I have many addons installed and don't want to setup everything again. Also in ~/.mozilla/.../Firefox there is a folder named OxygenKDE and if I delete it, Firefox auto creates a new OxygenKDE folder on FF startup.
