I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I can't get my Wireless Card & Wired Card to work at the same time. My interfaces file is incorrect, when I comment out 1 of the interfaces the other works. I have attached my interfaces file.
View 2 RepliesJust installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I recently installed Xubuntu on my old P3 laptop (Compaq Armada E500 if anyone is familiar). The laptop is a bit old, so both wired and wireless networking is done via PCMCIA cards. I have 2 cards installed, one for each purpose. I can't find the dongle for the wired card right now, so I am trying to use the wireless card. I am able to find the network I want to connect to, and type in the password since the network is secured. It tries to connect but then pops up again asking for the password (I know it is correct). Is this card supported by linux/compatible? I tried finding drivers online but the sites that had drivers were down.

There are two Network Cards and one USB adapter which I'd like to drive:
- Ethernet controller Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5703X Gigabit Ethernet (rev 02)
- Ethernet controller Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
- Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187 Wireless Adapter
Actually I need the wireless adapter to connect to the AP, so both of the ethernet card should be disabled. Infact, when I try to access to the AP I must disable the eth0 card by using (sudo ifconfig eth0 down), otherwise the route assigns the default gw (192.168.1.1) to the eth0 device and the network is useless.
Ok, so I upgraded my acer aspire one to the new Ubuntu 10, and at first everything was working fine, except the audio. Now, for some reason, my wireless and ethernet ports have died. I can't get online by either method. I can do ifconfig <device> up and it will show up if i do iwconfig or ifconfig, but the wireless isn't associated with the AP. Currently I'm trying to load some drivers for my atheros card, and we'll see how that works outReally I was wondering, how come the modules don't load at boot time, and how can I fix this? I'm having the hardest time finding the required files to make my Broadcom BCM4311 wireless card work without being able to download any packages from the web. If anyone knows which files I need and which order I should use to install them that would be great.

It seems like I installed the driver right, and network-admin use to show the wireless, but I couldn't unlock it to mess with properties. Now it doesn't even show wireless, and I still can't unlock it, so I'm unable to get my wireless card to work.

It just doesn't seem to be exist on my computer anymore. The computer has a button to turn wireless on and off, which worked when it was a windows system, but doesn't seem to do anything anymore. I am currently using NDISWrapper to load the bcmwl15 driver and when it's active it works beautifully.Problem is sometimes at boot, the card doesn't "turn on" and I don't know how else to describe it. The OS does not even detect that the hardware is present. I have disabled wireless hotkey in BIOS. The only way to make the wireless card "active" is to reboot with the wiredconnection to the router. After doing that the wireless card "wakes up" and works awesome.Is there anything I can do to make sure the driver load at boot?mes I get the error that NDISWrapper is not modprobbed when I go to network configuration and if I wish to do i now? I have installed Ubuntu 11.04 and for several days have tried many, many different ways of installing my Linksys WPC 11 wireless card into my IBM Thinkpad T30 laptop.
I have got the wireless working by installing Ubuntu 8 and then upgrading to the current version, and I would assume some drivers are currently installed.
As usual though, the signal drops out after only a few minutes and I have to keep re-booting the laptop to continue what I'm doing.
I have looked for information regarding this card. I have tried to install it using ndisgtk and ndiswrapper. I have the green light on the card but it won't work. When I have tried using ndiswrapper to install this card, I can get the driver to install but then the instructions say to type the following line which I do, but then it gives me an error message:
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
The error message is:

I just bought a USB thumbdrive and I installed Ubuntu on it. I want Ubuntu to connect to the internet with virtually any computer that boots from the USB. Is there a single package that will install drivers for nearly every wireless card there is so that I can connect to the internet with out a hassle?

I'm trying to activate a wireless network on an ubuntu server 10.04. The machine has a TPLink PCI wireless card. Card is well recognized, and scanning for wireless connection it finds correctly the essid of the access point in the room. But when I try:

I have been trying to find a wireless card that will readily work with Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop. Preferably an +802.11 N with an indoor range of between 300 to 400 ft. with possibly two antennas. Am finding many that say linux on the box but find that it ain't so. Also most times with no instructions or very convoluted process that results in errors.

I have a dell mp1210 xps laptop. I just recently installed installed Ubuntu 9.10 and am very green. With difficulty I managed to install the drivers for the wireless card and now have wireless on the laptop. In order to get the wireless working I had to restart my computer, and once it booted up again the wireless works, but there is no trace of eth0-my wired network device (Broadcom BCM4401-B0) which was working fine before I got the wireless adapter working. Lspci still shows the device as it did when it was functioning, but ifconfig only shows my local loopback and wlan0 (my wireless device). I am not sure how eth0 got deleted, I am wondering if maybe I have to set up some sort of switching between the wired and wireless adapters so they are not both active at the same time. Any suggestions would be really nice, I have been digging through the forums, but I am unsure of what went wrong or what to do about it.
