On FC10, when system boots up, it would auto detect (from DHCP) and configure eth0.
This does not happen on FC11, but I can manually configure the interface. The entries in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 are identical on both OS releases.
Don't know if this is related, but when I run System->Administration->Bootloader, it fails system-config-boot - missing module kudzu.
I'm just installed Fedora 14 64-bits into a server which come with Multiple network interfaces, I'm found that the naming of each network interface is not in sequences in what I'm thought (e.g: the on board network interfaces name as Eth5 and Eth6, the additional card ethernet port name from Eth0 - Eth1 and etc). How to name the interfaces as what I wish to? What should I install to allow me to rename the interfaces.

I have set all the networking parameters like dns path, hostname etc. I have also ensured that I select the check-box for "Enable automatically when system starts" for eth0 interface. But weirdly, whenever I boot my system(or restart), I see that the interface eth0 is disabled. I have to manually enter as root and enable it, each time I boot/reboot my system. Why is this happening? Could you please suggest a way so that I have eth0 interface enabled always when I boot up?Also, my domainname also is not boot-persistent. What steps should I take to ensure that the domainname set once persists across reboots?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that a common issue to several distros is the fact that the networking subsystem doesn't automatically detect the link if an ethernet connection is disconnected and then re-connected to the NIC after boot. If the ethernet cable is connected after the system is up and running, nothing happens - ethtool eth0 shows link detected: no, and you have to restart the network service to let the NIC know that there is in fact a link, and actually connect. I have a Fedora14 (KDE) box with a brand new Asus motherboard with embedded NIC. Everything works great except the auto-detect of a freshly connected ethernet connection if the link is down to begin with.
Am I missing a ethernet link sentinel utility or something, or is this just the way linux works? I have done plenty of research on plenty of posts, and it seems this is a common problem, with no solution other than manually or programatically restarting the network service in a script to detect the link after a disconnect.

I've a server with two NIC. Sometimes the server becomes unreacheable. When this happens, I did a reboot and then it works.. but when looking at the interface status (with ifconfig command), I've notice several "errors".So, I've tried to change NIC.. but the problem occurs again.I've also changed the port on the switch.

Hope if anyone could shed the light.Basically, I have a PC1 (.1) and PC2 (.130) connected via a PC router. PC router has 2 interfaces: wireless (.2) and ethernet (.129). PC1 connects to PC router via LAN cable/wireless interface, while PC2 connects to PC router via cable. This settings try to simulate 1 wireless connection along the path (and because PC2 is too old to support wireless interface, we need a PC router). These interfaces are all under same 172.16.130.x subnet.

I had already read and thought about doing it with OpenVPN, but when I read the community documentation for OpenVPN on ubuntu 10.10, I fear it won't connect the tunnel to mikrotik OpenVPN server, since OpenVPN on ubuntu uses 2 certificate and 2 key files(as i read on the docs), but mikrotik configuration, i can see only 1 certificate can be applied on. This confuses me and make me decide to use EoIP(but i can't find any tutorial/docs about it). I don't actually need the encryption and security, i just need to create a tunnel for ubuntu and mikrotik.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop and the 70-persistent-net.rules file seems to be ignored. The ethernet interfaces are randomly shuffled around on boot (i have 4 interfaces). The original one was configured to have a static IP address (eth0). Is there anything that prevents the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules from being applied/used?

I am unable to connect to the internet at work through the ethernet, previously working. I am not sure of the origin of this problem -- the result of an update or something that I did to the network settings.
In the NetworkManager applet is says Auto Ethernet is connected but I can't ping anything by name or ip address.
The wireless still works without any problem.
I have tried following some of the other threads on similar issues but the fixes proposed on them have not helped to date. And I may have mangled some of the settings files somewhat.
I have tried the command on ubantu workstation but it giving error : # mii-tools SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth1' failed: operationsnot support. no MII interface found.

So I keep reading that bonding ethernet devices is supposed to be easy. I have followed several tutorials and tried a few things on my own, and I can't seem to get it right. I currently have a setup that allows me to ping internally on my network, but when I try to ping externally I get the error:

I am using RHEL6 on a server with 3 interfaces.
eth0 is connecting via a Cisco switch to the outer world and eth1 and eth2 to internal networks.
eth1 and eth2 are working without problems all the time, however I have the following incident with eth0: although it is RUNNING, and after it works for some time (like some hours), it then becomes incapable of sending/receiving traffic. Here are more details, after the interface exits the RUNNING state:

I am wondering whether there this is because there is not traffic for some time and so the interface goes to idle. Is there any parameter I can tweak in RHEL6 to force the interface to remain RUNNING even in the absence of traffic (although I would be expecting that some 802.1 packets would be periodically flowing from the switch to the interface)?
I recently installed Vortexbox, which includes fedora release 14.Got everything working, but could not access the network. After a bit of searching, found that "ifup eth0" activated the interface.To do this on boot, I have added this command, together with my "mount /dev/..." command in file /etc/rc.localIt works OK, but I cant help thinking there's a proper way of doing this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust noticed that auto connection to my wired ethernet is not being established after restarts I'm making. Never recall this in the past. I do get an auto connect when I shutdown and restart. I'm using 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx.
Also have noticed that nearly every upgrade over the past week or so is calling for restart to complete the upgrade. Can there be any unwanted problems in doing several upgrades over a period of several days before doing the restart? I'd like to think not.
As you can imagine these two issues together are causing some lost time.

However, after the system is already booted up and has been running, if a network connection is dropped and re-added, like if one of the several network cables to the machine is temporarily disconnected or other, then the routing table is modified -- I assume by network manager. Presently, I need to manually re-run my script to re-customize the routing table.
I would like to have the script just run whenever there is any change to the connection state of interfaces. Anyone know how to tie in some kind of event trigger that can execute a script upon change in interfaces connection state (i.e., detect change in connection state and run the script)?
I've recently bought a recycled computer for my office. The plan was to get an old cheap computer and use it to write LaTex documents but nothing else. However, I can't seem to get the thing to connect to the internet. I'm on a University network which has a funny setup but I don't think that's the problem.So here's the deal. I have tried this with 9.04, 10.04 and 10.10 and it hasn't worked. The computer recognizes the ethernet cable. If I issue the command "sudo mii-tool eth0" and get back "eth0: negotiated 100baseTx-FD, link ok". However, click on the networking logo on the top right, and click auto eth0, it tries to connect for about 30 seconds, then gives up. Unfortunately I'm pretty clueless when it comes to networking so I have no idea what to do to try to fix this.

Missing ifcfg-eth[2-5] fileset for ZNYX 345Q Quad Port 10/100 cards. I have showing in the gui network device that my ports for my ZNYX ZX345Q Quad Port card my ports are Auto eth2, Auto eth3 etc. My Motherboard and Intel cards show as System eth0 and System eth1.
There ARE corresponding entries for those in my /etc/sysconfig/network-settings/ directory, but there are not ifcfg-eth[2-5] files to correspond to these adapters. Can I just write my own files and that will do it?
How does Fedora 12/13 load these drivers into the kernel without having these ifcfg files?
I'd love to know if there is another way Fedora controls NICs / other system resources.
I am working on linux kernel building and customising for our requirement.All these days we were using 2.6.9EL5 kernel to create our own Bootable kernel. Lately we moved to 2.6.33.3 as SATA CDROM support was not available during booting with the earlier kernel.Now with the new kernel i have got all the updates i wanted with respect to hardware detection during booting but having an issue with my PS2 mouse not auto detecting while booting. However i can configure the mouse with the popup that comes during booting by selecting the generic PS2 3 button mouse option. With this my mouse works properly. I am wondering is there a way to make the mouse auto detectable.I have attached one of the Xconfig file that is part of our process.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe problem is that when I connect my phone to my machine FC11 x64 via USB and use the phone as a modem NetworkManager does not recognise the phone as a modem. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.

Fresh install of FC11. Had to install libwvstreams-4.5.1-5.fc11.i586.rpm and wvdial-1.60-8.fc11.i586.rpm
Now get following error -
Probably there is bug in kernel used FC11 [url] This bug freeze computer after ping or other data sending over VPN connection.
Is there any chance to backport this patch to kernel in FC11?
