My laptop was working fine on wireless till the userinterface changed and it defaulted to ethernet and now it won't let me go back on wireless How do i disable ethernet?

As many search engines are blocking us to search and retrive the date after some time.. Taking Google as example : Google Blocks my IP after every 30 mins of retriving.. Application is a Windows based & using Windows 2003 as the Server.. Would like to give a Dynamic IP to the Windows Server via 1st Ethernet Card & enable the 2nd Ethernet for the Internet..Eg : eth 0 = 192.168.1.1eth 1 = x.x.x.x (Public IP)I have check with few of my friends who told me to get Linux or Cent OS installed to do a interface disable after given time & enable a secondary device or virtual interface the next couple of seconds... Like eg : eth 1 = x.x.x.1 eth 2 = x.x.x.2 eth 3 = x.x.x.3 so on.. Would like the eth 1 to be down after 60 mins & eth 2 o be up & again after 60 mins of up time eth 2 down & eth 3 up.

Hope if anyone could shed the light.Basically, I have a PC1 (.1) and PC2 (.130) connected via a PC router. PC router has 2 interfaces: wireless (.2) and ethernet (.129). PC1 connects to PC router via LAN cable/wireless interface, while PC2 connects to PC router via cable. This settings try to simulate 1 wireless connection along the path (and because PC2 is too old to support wireless interface, we need a PC router). These interfaces are all under same 172.16.130.x subnet.

I've a server with two NIC. Sometimes the server becomes unreacheable. When this happens, I did a reboot and then it works.. but when looking at the interface status (with ifconfig command), I've notice several "errors".So, I've tried to change NIC.. but the problem occurs again.I've also changed the port on the switch.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create EoIP interface on ubuntu so i can create a simple tunnel to my mikrotik router. Is there anyone know how or even done that? If EoIP is not possible, is there any other simple way?
I had already read and thought about doing it with OpenVPN, but when I read the community documentation for OpenVPN on ubuntu 10.10, I fear it won't connect the tunnel to mikrotik OpenVPN server, since OpenVPN on ubuntu uses 2 certificate and 2 key files(as i read on the docs), but mikrotik configuration, i can see only 1 certificate can be applied on. This confuses me and make me decide to use EoIP(but i can't find any tutorial/docs about it). I don't actually need the encryption and security, i just need to create a tunnel for ubuntu and mikrotik.
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 on my desktop and the 70-persistent-net.rules file seems to be ignored. The ethernet interfaces are randomly shuffled around on boot (i have 4 interfaces). The original one was configured to have a static IP address (eth0). Is there anything that prevents the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules from being applied/used?

How to name the interfaces as what I wish to? What should I install to allow me to rename the interfaces.

I have set all the networking parameters like dns path, hostname etc. I have also ensured that I select the check-box for "Enable automatically when system starts" for eth0 interface. But weirdly, whenever I boot my system(or restart), I see that the interface eth0 is disabled. I have to manually enter as root and enable it, each time I boot/reboot my system. Why is this happening? Could you please suggest a way so that I have eth0 interface enabled always when I boot up?Also, my domainname also is not boot-persistent. What steps should I take to ensure that the domainname set once persists across reboots?

On FC10, when system boots up, it would auto detect (from DHCP) and configure eth0.
This does not happen on FC11, but I can manually configure the interface. The entries in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 are identical on both OS releases.
Don't know if this is related, but when I run System->Administration->Bootloader, it fails system-config-boot - missing module kudzu.
So I keep reading that bonding ethernet devices is supposed to be easy. I have followed several tutorials and tried a few things on my own, and I can't seem to get it right. I currently have a setup that allows me to ping internally on my network, but when I try to ping externally I get the error:

I am using RHEL6 on a server with 3 interfaces.
eth0 is connecting via a Cisco switch to the outer world and eth1 and eth2 to internal networks.
eth1 and eth2 are working without problems all the time, however I have the following incident with eth0: although it is RUNNING, and after it works for some time (like some hours), it then becomes incapable of sending/receiving traffic. Here are more details, after the interface exits the RUNNING state:

I am wondering whether there this is because there is not traffic for some time and so the interface goes to idle. Is there any parameter I can tweak in RHEL6 to force the interface to remain RUNNING even in the absence of traffic (although I would be expecting that some 802.1 packets would be periodically flowing from the switch to the interface)?
I purchased an EeePc 900HD (ASUS). Installed EeeBuntu_3.0 when I run "lshw -c network". I got a "DISABLE" status for my ethernet connection. In this forum I read that I need to run:
"ifconfig *logical_hardware_name* up"
The "DISABLE" status is gone but still no ethernet connection in the Gnome-NetworkManager.
I wanted to split adsl line, but a friend of mine explained that this isn't possible.. So now my question is that can you somehow switch ethernet back to dsl or have a computer convert it so that nothing has to be done to the other modem.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi am getting really pissed off with my new core i5 system I have a gigabyte p55m-ud2 mobo ([URL]) which's got a Realtek 8111D lan chipset it connected to my router after fresh install of ubun10 and then i installed MacOSX 10.6.3 and it worked there too then i came back to ubuntu and it didn't work anymore, after several restarts it was still not working until i took out the power cord and mobo battery, and reinstalled them back later which caused ethernet to work once again. but then after a while it started not to work anymore, which usually got fixed with a reboot. now this time i had ethernet working and i just resumed from screensaver and it stopped agian
there are no green or orange lights flashing at the back and when i take the cable out and reinsert it nothing comes on but with a shutdown they do come on i don't have this problem on the other harddisk which now has win7 and i some times manually change the sata cable to boot into windows and use itunes and some other stuff to load music to my iphone. I dont like to have dualboot and i dont like to use win7 either i just have it on the other hard disk just in case
is the manual switching of hard disk causing this to happen? why do i get it working with restart/shutdown and when i am using it fine it just decides to stop working after a resume from screensaver or sometimes for other reasons and why does none of this happen on win7 is there a way to reconfigure the ethernet drivers or other stuff without a reboot i am thinking it might be a problem with network manager or a bug or something network manager is really crappy and i used to use wicd until that started to do funky things ( like not connecting to hidden networks, launchpad Bug #473817)
OS: Maverick Ethernet driver: tested with sky2 an sk98lin This has been driving me crazy for the last few months: if I unplug ethernet cable while my laptop is on reconnecting it sometimes does not bring the connection back.
And once ethernet is gone nothing that I try seems to consistently bring it back. Rebooting, disabling/enabling the driver, disabling/enabling NIC in BIOS, changing driver from sky2 to sk98lin, deleting connection from Network Manager, resetting the router - nothing helps. It seems to come back randomly a few weeks later. Once I used live Ubuntu on a USB stick and ethernet came back not only on a live distro but then when I rebooted also on my main OS. But when I tried that trick next time ethernet was missing in the live distro as well.
Also once I was able to revive ethernet but compiling sk98lin driver, blacklisting sky2 and rebooting. Of course next time doing the same routine did not help. The thing is - ethernet works fine with either sky2 or sk98lin and I can unplug the cable and plug it back in most of the time without any issues. But then every so often - bang and I'm stuck with only wireless until ethernet suddenly starts working again.
I have been using Ubuntu for quite a while now (~3 years.) I recently installed 10.10 on an HP Mini 1000. The installation went fine, but now I am puzzling over how to connect to the internet. When I plug an ethernet cable into the netbook, the port light lights up, but the system does absolutely nothing. Under the connections menu on the top panel, it just says disconnected. Also, the wireless connection section states that the device is not ready because firmware is not installed. Most solutions I see for problems of this kind are to download the drivers, but I cannot do that because neither connection works.

Also, I have the french version so i'll do my best to translate the terms in english. I have a major problem: i can't connect to internet by ethernet cable or by wireless. I just upgraded to 10.04. I had wireless connection for 1 day and now nothing. No ethernet connection either. I CAN use both wireless and ethernet using my machine on Windows.....so the connection stuff does work. Here's the output of of the commands I got from the "sticky". When I plug an ethernet cable into the ethernet port, simply nothing happens, and when I try to connect to my wireless network, it connects but there is no actual internet available. I'm sure the wireless works as I'm on an older model Toshiba Satellite and it connects fine (running Ubuntu 10.04 as well.) I am trying to get this laptop`s wireless to connect to my router or any wireless connection. View 4 Replies View Relatedhave used f14 since it came out with no problems, little niggles and whatnot have been sorted by reading these forums and googling but I'm now out of my depth.problems started when I installed f15 from disc and no ethernet or wireless was useable. Inserting wire leads to it announcing it's unplugged again a few mins later and trying to connect wireless never resolves.I thought it was a quirk and would go back to f14 for a few weeks but after re-installing that was now the same. So I tried live discs of crunchbang and debian6 -same. However puppy linux sees the ethernet fine.So my question is how do I enable ethernet and/or wireless in f15 (installed again after checking with puppy)?

I don't see any drivers under System >> Administration >> Hardware Drivers, and I can't connect it to the internet any other way when I'm running Ubuntu. (I still have Vista as a dual-boot, and it works fine there). (Sorry about the title - the ethernet DOES actually work, but I can't seem to change the title of the post).

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Invalid argument.
I tried the STA drivers and get the same thing except the kernel module loaded is wl instead of b43. Is it even possible to set this card to master mode? I can't find jack on the net.

I have a Dell Studio 1501 Laptop and I want to bridge the wireless with the ethernet port so I can hook my xbox360 to my laptop.
I've spent the last 2 hours trying different techniques but nothing is working.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 so the last thing I tried was going into the network manager, clicking on wired, editing the ethernet port and allowing it to share. This did nothing.
I tried to share the connect with firestarter but that did not work either.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10
I am using an Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN built in adapter.
When I was prompted for a system-update I clicked Update and apparently something failed an only a partial-update happened. Now my wireless/Ethernet connections do not work. I tried enabling all Network Adapters but that option is no longer available in the "Preference/Administration" tab.
Note: I cannot access the internet at all on that partition so I can't download any updates from repositories.
My wireless works flawlessly (aside from my generally crappy signal ahaha), but when I decided to do a minimal Ubuntu live install on my netbook [Asus Eee 1005PE] (I tried both 10.04 and 10.10 with the same results), it wouldn't pick up my ethernet.
I decided just to load up my existing OS (Ubuntu 10.04 32-Bit) and got the same thing.
The wireless, as stated before, works without a problem, and it's weird, because the wireless manager says that knows the ethernet connection is there, but it won't connect to it...
