I have three servers, one of which was installed with Nagios, now I want to check memory usage, cpu load, disk usage on the Nagios server and another server.what packages should be installed on the Nagios server? what packages should be installed on another server. nagios has been installed on ubuntu 10.04 server.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to some how get a list of the packages I installed. I was hoping that I could just list all of the packages that were not installed automatically as a dependency. It turns out that there are 320 packages that match that description (I think). Is there a way to do what I want to do? Shouldn't all of these dependencies have been installed as a handful of meta-packages instead?

"Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::SNMP) is needed by package nagios-plugins"
Whereas net-snmp-perl.i386 is already installed.

I've been google'ing around recently for some good solutions for creating local yum "update" repositories without syncing entire repositories. (or adding hundreds of exclude statements in config files)
I have several boxes with a common base build (centos 5.5/x86_64), one has nagios3, another has apache, and another tomcat6 (also a couple of others) For tomcat and nagios I'm obviously using 3rd party repositories (jpackage, epel, rpmforge to name a few) Everything is installed via RPM from kickstart.
I would like to make an updates repository which contains the updates for everything that's installed (including centos base).
Updates will be downloaded on a separate box, but not sure how to get the list of packages required on that box where the packages are not actually installed. I've looked at reposync and mrepo, but appear to be syncing from what's available rather than what's required.
I was hoping that I can provide an "rpm -qa" output, compare this to a "yum list" or perhaps running "yum check-update" on a list rather than installed packages. I could then use the yum-downloadonly module to get the packages which have changed from available sources.
I have just installed Debian Lenny and was trying to upgrade the installed packages from the packages.debian.org site. when i asked synaptic to add the downloaded packages the would not appear, but when i checked the .xsessions file there are entries saying that the packages were being ingnored because they were either different versions, the MD5 did not match or even "can't find pkg". i have to use the local library to download the packages because i dont have an internet connection at home.

1) I have my Nagios running on the linux box and BMC Remedy Server on the Solaris box. I have simulated a mail from Nagios to be delivered to the Remedy server. But the Remedy Server does not receive it. I even tried snooping on port 25 but nothing has reached the box.

I have installed Nagios 3 on CentOS 5.2. Everything is running. It is monitoring 10 machines and 60 services for now. Now I want email notifications for the critical alerts from Nagios. I am already having one mail server (Qmail) running on different machine and I want to use its reference to send alerts to my network.

I have been running Ubuntu on my laptop since 9.10 by itself (not dualbooting Windows). I had no problems with it back then but I did notice that when I upgraded, not all the packages installed and I would get an error message saying so. I never thought much of it. The problem became apparent when upgrading from 9.10 to 10.4, I would get an error message everytime and the upgrade would be cancelled. This forced me to reinstall Ubuntu for both 10.04 and 10.10. As soon as I downloaded 10.10 I downloaded docky and chromium. Heres where my current problems arise:
- Docky (which worked in 10.04) wont work even after I download compiz.
- Every time I update the system, if i try to update chromium or anything else from google it cancels the upgrade.
- I tried using "sudo apt-get upgrade" in the terminal but I get
"Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened."
This is an odd question, but I can't figure out why my nagios emails aren't being sent. In fact, I got my last one three days ago so it *should* be working.
I have everything in contacts.cfg, and the admin page tells me that the following should be sent: Unknown, Warning, Critical, Recovery, Flapping, Downtime
I also have notify-service-by-email and notify-host-by-email.
I have no idea if nagios emails just don't want to be sent or what -- and I'm not even sure if the nagios emails are even trying to be sent.
Here's my contacts.cfg code...
There's nothing in /var/log/nagios besides the mention of that email address in objects.cache, so I have no idea if an email was attempted to be sent. My sendmail queue is empty as well.
Meanwhile, I have some downtime on a service and didn't get notified. Only the web interface is helping me out here. Any ideas why I am not getting email? How can I run a test to see if everything's working okay?
When I try to log into the webgui I am getting a file to download labled "nagios". When double-clicking the file I get the error " The file /path/to/file cannot be found. Please check the location and try again".

I am however, running several packages from PPA's that were simply not working well at the versions included with 9.10 (I know specifically the 64-bit version of Flash and Wine are setup this way).
Since these installs are out of the scope of the official Ubuntu sources, how are these handled when I upgrade? More importantly, since some of these packages were just installed as a temporary fix until 10.04 came out, for some of them I'd like to remove the PPA version and reinstall the default version (since for several of them the 10.04 version has caught up to where it needs to be). Is there any way to identify all packages installed from PPA's on the system?
I was wondering if there's a package that can report on the frequency with which a program (e.g. gnuplot) has been run over, say, the past week, or month.
