Ubuntu :: View The Config For Each Individual Screenlet?
Jul 16, 2010
I'm using Screenlets in ubuntu 10.04 and I have a problem with screenlets behavior. I played around with it a little while and I guess I messes something, because now whenever I log in some screenlets load twice and I have to clean them manually. Where can I view the config for each individual screenlet?
I want to try out the screenlet called Folder View:[URL]I have downloaded and installed it fine. However, when I double-click on it (or use the Start/Stop button) there is a momentary flash and then nothing interesting. I have checked on the widget layer and on all desktops and I have tried various settings in Options all to no avail
Does anyone remember the name of the Dell utility that allows you to view the config of an external array while the server is running, through a CLI. I have a bad drive in one of my servers, but can't take it down right now but want to see the specs on the drive as none of them are labeled.
When I set up Twin View in the nVidia config tool (as either a regular user or as root), it only lasts until I log out and log back in (i.e. restart x) or until I restart the machine. In either case once I get to the log in splash screen again, it is only operating on one monitor, and when I log in I have to reconfigure in order to get Twin View back. How can I get the configuration to stay?
More info below:
I just installed opensuse 11.2 on an AMD 64 bit 3800. It has an nVidia GeForce 7600 GS card. I installed the nVidia driver no problem and can access the nVidia config app as a regular user or as root. Both access via KDE run level 5. That is, in a GUI desktop environment. I set up Twin View fine (it is kind of clunky process, but it does recognize my monitor resolutions fine) and click apply and I get the twin view I want. I clicked on save x config but all it does is bring up a file save dialog with a 'browse' button. Isn't this supposed to automatically know where the X config file is and update it? If it isn't, what file am I supposed to look for to save over? I looked in /etc/X11 and only found the following files:
I was following the online instructions to install screenlets and all is fine and the manager appears as well. In compiz the widget layer is active etc. Once widget layer is activated it shows an empty blank dark screen, widgets are not running. The widgets/scripts do not show up, neither on desktop nor on the widget layer.
Running the py script from terminal showing following output:
Quote:
user@ubuntu:/usr/share/screenlets/Clock$ ./ClockScreenlet.py CachingBackend: Loading instances from cache Found a running session of Clock, adding new instance by service. Error in screenlets.services.get_service_by_name:
all I want it to do is be a picture of an Orb like the windows 7 one but without the logo which I can place over the start icon. I just can't figure out how to make it, all I know is that you need to compress the file to a Tar.gz file.
The text of my cairo-clock screenlet is clipped - only a pixel or two on the top, but more on the bottom (see attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this? (Also, does anyone know how to format the clock differently? I would like a single line with the format like "13:59 31/01/2010" ...)
I saw that it's possible to use stock screenlet to show an exchange rate:[URL].. but I wasn't able to find out how to do that...I know that for let's say Google, you have to type GOOG (Nasdaq index) in the preferences, but there's no such index for exchange rate e.g. EUR-GBP.
I am no programming expert, but there must be a file that the Notes screenlet is storing all my notes on ( im not talkign about tomboy). If I can just find this file and then Share the file, i will be able to sync my notes between my computers. Correct? So anyone know where this text file is so that I can sync it.?
I've installed the Screenlets package. HOW TO define my location in the ClearWeather screenlet? The "ZIP" (locale) field has the default: POXX0079 which is: "Villa Real". What coding system is this? How / where do I find the corresponding code for a Canadian city? It's obvious that the "ZIP" field does not use the US Postal coding system.
I have been working in macromedia dreamviewer for editing html and php files, Just now I moved to linux system by installing xampp , my question is that I need a best html and php editor that supports both the design view and code view as like in dreamviewer.
I'm attempting to use the output screenlet to always show the output of the "top" command. However, the screenlet will only display "TERM environment variable not set". Opening a terminal and running a "env | grep TERM" shows me that the variable is actually set, so I think that the screenlet may not be reading my environment correctly.
I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:
Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.
I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.
My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)
how to delete or replace specific OSs in a Ubuntu ( 3 versions ) and XP multiboot set up
I want to make sure I leave my Ubuntu Studio 9.04 partition intact and replace the other 3 OSs incl Winodze XP with a fresh install of Ubuntu Studio 10.04 or 64Studio, alongside the intact UStudio 8.04.
Ive backed up Home folders which are important to me.
I'm a newbie who has just installed Maverick on my old HP box and I have to say I'm hugely impressed. I have 2x 160Gb drives in the machine, is there a utility which will let me backup/mirror certain directories automatically, whilst still being able to utilise the remaining space on the second disk?
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Acer Aspire 5745. The installation was successful. However, I found that my internet is not working. Later I realised that there are no ethernet drivers. The one that I need is Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet controller(NDIS 6.20). My wireless is also not working. This one is a Broadcom 802.11n Network adapter. On googling, I found this thread : URL...
To install the driver first, I had to do build-essential and headers-generic. Since I have a desktop, i thought of manually downloading the packages on my desktop and then transferring it to the acer. But i came across many dependencies for build-essential, that is, I first had to install something else before build-essential. The dependencies led me to further dependencies and so on. Is there any way for me to get all the packages without downloading each individual ones?
Running Meerkat on Sony Vaio laptop, with Firefox as the browser of choice. The BBC News website has a "My Location" setting, and shares it automatically with the BBC Weather page for a local forecast. Is it possible to clear the Browsing History, yet save the one individual cookie that is used for this ?
While I'm a fan of Gnome, I'd prefer if the user "kids" logs in as KDE by default. Is there any way to toggle which desktop environment it automatically logs in to?
I'm using a multiple monitor setup, and I'd like to use a different wallpaper on each monitor. The default background selector, however, puts the same picture on every monitor. I've tried the application 'nitrogen' from the repositories which claims to be able to do just that, but it doesn't do anything.
Usually to view individual cpu % we press '1' in the interactive mode of top.
However I am not able to figure out the logic to get the same output in batch mode i.e,
top -n1b
I am redirecting this output to a file to view it later and stuff like that, so I need the batch mode. Is it possible? Installing a separate tool for this is not gonna be possible.
I'm looking for an option that I am missing or some way to capture the output.
We have quite a few SEO clients who require multiple IPs which are all from different class c allocations. (10 - 50 IPs) used for projects lasting weeks to months at a time. Since we don't have connected IPs in ranges we can't use the range scripts but I don't know of a way to easily add a long list of individual IPs. These are CentOS servers, by the way
Recently, I made a disk image of my external hard drive (as it had recently failed). I have yet to get it replaced, so I have a .dd file sitting on my computer. Now, I can mount the .dd file so I can access the files, but I cannot delete any of them. I want to be able to copy the files file by file to my normal folders and delete them from the backup file, as my disk isn't large enough for me to copy them all to the folders and just delete the entire file.
TL;DR = Can I/How do I delete individual files from a .dd backup.
I have a gziped dd image backup of my entire hda drive (osx and ext4 partitions) that I created with the following command: dd if=/dev/sda |gzip > image032810.gz Can I mount this image file to pull off individual files from individual partitions?
