Ubuntu :: Cairo-clock Screenlet Text Clipped
Jan 8, 2010
The text of my cairo-clock screenlet is clipped - only a pixel or two on the top, but more on the bottom (see attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this? (Also, does anyone know how to format the clock differently? I would like a single line with the format like "13:59 31/01/2010" ...)

I am no programming expert, but there must be a file that the Notes screenlet is storing all my notes on ( im not talkign about tomboy). If I can just find this file and then Share the file, i will be able to sync my notes between my computers. Correct? So anyone know where this text file is so that I can sync it.?

I tipically love the clock to appear in the desktop upper right corner but... everytime I reboot, the cairo-clock appear in the middle of the screen losing the right place "memory", and I have to replace it manually all the times...I've tried with another clock, the screenlet provided one and I met no problem with this issue, but before to give-up and canging clock I want to try this last chance. In the autostart menu I created a new item called "cairo clock" that execute the command: < cairo-clock > but I suppose there could be a better command to configure by passing also the desktop position coordinate.

I am using ubuntu. I have Cairo clock on my startup list, but after logging in cairo-clock appears on left top corner, but as it is the position reserved for computer, my home, mounted volumes etc. So I want to change default position of cairo-clock to left but there is no such option in the preferences of cairo-clock. My cairo-clock version is cairo-clock 0.3.4. Can I edit any config file of cairo-clock.

Using the Screenshot in CompizConfig Settings Manager, can I copy the clipped screenshot to the clipboard right away? When I used <Super>Button1 to clip the screenshot, the image gets saved on the desktop and not on the clipboard. I would like to save some time and keystrokes by automating the "copy to the clipboard" I am using Ubuntu 10.04

I was wondering if it is at all possible to use CSS code to make the Gnome panel clock text blink. I Googled a bunch of CSS code which is supposedly used to create a blinking text effect but none work in the Gnome panel clock. Is there any sort of CSS code which can do that? If so, what is it?

Today I was using Gchempaint (part of Gnome Chemistry Tools) and found that the F12 version fails miserably to correctly export H to xyz. So I decided to install the latest version I found (0.11). There are, however, some problems I must sort out during compilation.
Apparently it does not see my 'cairo' installation and so I get the following error message:
Code:
checking for cairo... configure: error: Package requirements (cairo >= 1.6.0) were not met: No package 'cairo' found
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a non-standard prefix.Alternatively, you may set the environment variables cairo_CFLAGS and cairo_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for more details.

I was following the online instructions to install screenlets and all is fine and the manager appears as well. In compiz the widget layer is active etc. Once widget layer is activated it shows an empty blank dark screen, widgets are not running. The widgets/scripts do not show up, neither on desktop nor on the widget layer.
Running the py script from terminal showing following output:
Quote:
user@ubuntu:/usr/share/screenlets/Clock$ ./ClockScreenlet.py
CachingBackend: Loading instances from cache
Found a running session of Clock, adding new instance by service.
Error in screenlets.services.get_service_by_name:

How can I make my own screen-let?
all I want it to do is be a picture of an Orb like the windows 7 one but without the logo which I can place over the start icon. I just can't figure out how to make it, all I know is that you need to compress the file to a Tar.gz file.

I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done

Where can I view the config for each individual screenlet?

However, when I double-click on it (or use the Start/Stop button) there is a momentary flash and then nothing interesting. I have checked on the widget layer and on all desktops and I have tried various settings in Options all to no avail

I saw that it's possible to use stock screenlet to show an exchange rate:[URL].. but I wasn't able to find out how to do that...I know that for let's say Google, you have to type GOOG (Nasdaq index) in the preferences, but there's no such index for exchange rate e.g. EUR-GBP.

I've installed the Screenlets package. HOW TO define my location in the ClearWeather screenlet? The "ZIP" (locale) field has the default: POXX0079 which is: "Villa Real". What coding system is this? How / where do I find the corresponding code for a Canadian city? It's obvious that the "ZIP" field does not use the US Postal coding system.

I had cloned a centos 5.6 installation from virtualbox virtual machine to physical box. Everything work fine. However, the time showing in os using date command differs from bios time by roughly 4 hours. I am running ntp services which sync the time with another centos server on the network. It appears that some services are using virtual clock and some use physical clock. How do I get rid of virtual clock and only use physical clock?

I'm attempting to use the output screenlet to always show the output of the "top" command. However, the screenlet will only display "TERM environment variable not set". Opening a terminal and running a "env | grep TERM" shows me that the variable is actually set, so I think that the screenlet may not be reading my environment correctly.

In cairo-dock when I hover over the 'shortcuts' applet it shows me what's in my 'places' menu, but I have to click twice on any object to open it, and then it opens two instances of whatever I opened. As in I click once, could wait up to an hour probably, then click again and finally it opens up but twice.

I've been having problems with Cairo dock always showing below other windows. I have tried launching it with cairo-dock --keep-above and cairo-dock -a but to I have had no success. Even editing the settings from the configure to be "always on top" does not work.It was working before where it would appear above when I put the cursor at the bottom of the screen, but it isn't anymore, for whatever reason.

I bring up Ubuntu 10.10 today and cairo-dock is all messed up. There is only a box on the left end of where it used to appear at the bottom of my desktop. There is no icons and no ability to do anything with it. It was perfectly fine yesterday, which is what I do not understand.
I installed some gstreamer updates, but that was after it was messed up and the updates didn't change anything.I am using the latest version of nVidia driver 260.19.29At first I tried purging compiz, cairo-dock and all the plugins, extras, etc, CCSM as well as Simple CCSM. Then I reinstalled everything fresh and nothing changed.I even tried removing the kernel 2.6.35-24-generic and reinstalling it and still no bueno!
When I try to even open Simple CCSM via System > Preferences, the cursor indicates activity for a while and then nothing.Right clicking on the desktop and attempting to change visual effects to any thing but None yields some weird stuff and then a message "Desktop effects could not be enabled".
Like I said it was fine yesterday and has been fine since installation until today. It cannot be the video driver or any of the obvious solutions as I have had this driver for quite a while and everything was perfect until now.And please don't say try Docky or AWN. Been there and done that and I prefer Cairo-dock open GL.
