i am trying to use the Messaging and VOIP client that manages multiple accounts in the bar on top of the screen in the unity desktop. i am trying to connect to irc freenode but when i try to add the account i get an error message that says... "Disconnected this resource is already connected to the server."

I'm trying to set up my cell so I can use cellular internet in ubuntu like I do in windows. I've scoured the net, and found multiple guides, unfortunately, the problem I'm having seems to precede any of these. I can't follow the guides because I can't get to the first step. When I plug my phone in via USB, whether I'm using the internet sharing program or not, I see "eth1 connected eth1 disconnected" pop up over and over and over.

I was just mucking about in xfce, trying out new window buttons in conjunction with the black theme - dusk?? - when POW! - X shut down. Rebooting didn't restore things. Error is along these lines:

I have a little problem with my RHEL5.5 IA64. I mounted a Windows directory with 'mount -t cifs'. After a little while someone else mounted the same windows directory in the same mountpoint. The output from 'mount -v' shows me that the same directory is mounted twice in the same mountpoints. I cannot unmount it, not even with the force option. The error is "Device or resource busy". There are no open files in the shared directory and no one using the directory or subdirectories.

Movie Player (An error occurred, could not read from resource)
VLC (loads the disc, shows a time of 00:00, and just won't play) GNOME MPlayer (pretty much the same as VLC, loads but won't play)
The funny thing about all this is that the one burned DVD I tried (no menus but structured as a DVD) will play, I'm thinking copyright?

However users outside of my network are unable to connect to the server (get Timeout error). Here is my current setup for my laptop: I dual boot Windows Vista and Ubuntu 9.04. Vista is on the laptop's HDD while Ubuntu is on an external USB HDD. When turning my laptop on, if the external hard drive is either not on or disconnected, I get "Error 21" and nothing happens. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but when I need to take my laptop somewhere where I do not have access to my external HDD, it is rendered completely useless. So is it possible to set up GRUB (or possibly another bootloader) to boot regardless of whether or not it detects the drive Ubuntu is installed on?

I'm wondering: Is it possible to set up an Asterisk (or other) server on a home computer with no special hardware and use it to route calls between mobile devices in remote locations? I'm hoping this could work similarly to Skype Mobile, Google Voice, etc., except on a WAY smaller scale. This is just something I'd use personally for calls to family and friends--nothing huge.
Since my computer is just a regular laptop with no 3G connectivity, I don't expect to use 3G for calls. I just think it would be cool, for instance, to go to a caf� with WiFi and use a SIP/VoIP client on my Android phone to call up a friend who also has a phone or PC with a SIP/VoIP client on it. I realize I could do the same thing far more easily with an account at Skype or some other provider. My interest in attempting this project is more for the learning experience than practical use.
If indeed this is possible to do with the hardware I already own, any tips for starting out? My computer is a MacBook Pro 5,5 (dual-booting Sabayon Linux and Mac OS X). I know I could install Asterisk from within Sabayon, install a specialized telephony distro to a new partition, or run a virtual Asterisk machine--but I'm not sure which option, if any, would be most appropriate here. I'm also not sure if Asterisk would accomplish what I want, or if I should look at other software.
So I cant seem to be able to install fedora 15. I think it is the disk. I have windows 7 already installed (and would like to keep it) It was installed on the end of the hard drive leaving a 100 GB chunk in the center of the drive open and unformatted (this may be the problem). Anyway I used the live cd and tried to format the unformatted partition to exf but it gives me this error

I love Ubuntu but there is just one thing that I cannot get working. I have vista on this computer (Which I am going to delete after I get this working) when this computer is booted into vista then I type "192.168.1.65" (which is this computers internal ip address) and it connects to it without a problem. When I try this on ubuntu with KRFB running I type "192.168.1.65:5900" as it tells me to do with the added port number. This computer (This is the one I am Connecting to says "The remote user has been authenticated and is now connected." and when I hover over the icon it says "Desktop sharing - Connected with 192.168.1.70" which is my laptops IP address. On my laptop however it says "Remote Desktop Disconnected Because of a protocol error detected at the client (code 0x1104), this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again." No matter how many times I try it doesn't work.

Here I select the 'boot' option. Now it shows a 'loading' page with a progress bar and 'Fedora 10' written on the right side [as usual].. After that, on the next page I get the following error..

I have a server (called NAS) that shares out /public, and I also have this same server running KVM with some VM's. I am setting up the first VM now, and one of the things it does is download torrents onto the share. I am connecting it via "mount -t smbfs //nas/public /mnt/nas" from the VM on the host and it seems to work fine. However whenever I add a torrent to the queue on the VM to download, all downloads stop and seem to be disconnected. I can restart them after a few seconds, but they will stop after a few minutes with another disconnect error. I have the network interface bridged, so I thought it was talking directly to the host.

This is from ane external USB HDD I use as a backup device. I've tried formatting it as ext4 ane encrypting it from the command line

which run without errors but an attempt to mount throws up the above error as well as saying - you must specify the file type (tried that) - and fails to mount. I've tried using YaST to format and encrypt it which throws up the same error when I run mount but actually does actually mount the filesystem Googling around has brought up info saying that it's probably a race condition brought on by invalid udev rules. I've got a (mostly) working system and the udev rules documentation leaves more confused than when I started.
I logged on to one of my servers and ran a yum update, while the update was in progress my SSH connection got disconnected.
I logged in through a new connection when connectivity was restored and looked at running processes. It looked like yum was hung so I killed it (big mistake and one I won't repeat).
Now, when I try and run yum, I get the following:

Kontact worked, but I had to manually start Akonadi (from system tray) to get contacts to work.After reboot, Kontact won't start, instead showing a red box with an X, and "Akondaki not operational".The box on the screen (selftest) says "MySQL server log contains errors", and "Akonadi server process not registered at D-Bus".The report is saves says Test 14: error "no resource agents found".If I close the Akonadi window, and try to start Akonadi from the system tray, it gives the same errors.
