Ubuntu Networking :: Verizon XV6800 - Eth1 Connected / Disconnected

May 30, 2010

I'm trying to set up my cell so I can use cellular internet in ubuntu like I do in windows. I've scoured the net, and found multiple guides, unfortunately, the problem I'm having seems to precede any of these. I can't follow the guides because I can't get to the first step. When I plug my phone in via USB, whether I'm using the internet sharing program or not, I see "eth1 connected eth1 disconnected" pop up over and over and over.

My /var/log/messages reads:
Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: Verizon Pantech UML290 In 3G Mode ?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Get Verizon 4G VL600 Aircard To Work

Feb 10, 2011

I have one of the new Verizon 4G VL600 usb aircards. I also have the UML290. I was able to get the UML290 working using wvdial, but I was not able to get the VL600 card working. I am trying to ditch windows, but unfortunately can't until I get this card working, because I had to give the working card to our support people.

This is a known issue, but I want to spur some more conversation regarding it.

Here are some of the diagnostics and output I have regarding the device:

So all in all it looks like the device is showing up as an ethernet controller and the system itself is setting it up as eth1 in my case.

The throughput on this thing in covered areas is 18Mbps at times, which is friggin fast as far as I'm concerned. I would love to have that on the move, but I have no idea what to do from here.

I'm using ubuntu 10.10 x32 dekstop, on a lenovo x201.

Networking :: Verizon Broadband: Security Threat

Dec 14, 2008

Either Verizon has been hacked or they have installed something that should be a security concern.I have found that following Javascript "injected" into most webpages. I know it is added via a Verizon (wireless broadband) connection because a) it does not happen when I use Embarq DSL, and b) is happens to webpages that I have created (and I certainly did not add the Javascript!). So, here it is:

Well, that's my story. My concern is that I was able to view some private information (via a backend login) using the modified link, example: http:// 62.0.5.133/www.somedomain.comm/login/myaccount.php!! (this displayed private info!)I have since installed Privoxy to remove the offending Javascript before it gets actuated by my browser.

Ubuntu Networking :: Verizon Svcs Using GOBI 2000/Sierra Wireless Card On 9.1?

Apr 15, 2010

I bought a Toshiba NB305-410BN-G and it has an internal Sierra Wireless GOBI`2000 HS - USB Mobile Broadband Device 9001. This works fine providing wireless internet over Verizon's cellular service using Windoze 7 Starter os. I installed Ubuntu 9.1 (canonical) on the NB305 and I found a network device GUI that allowed me to configure "Mobile Broadband" for Verizon and allowed me to check a little box to automatically start the service. This action does not provide me with Verizon on Ubuntu. When I looked at the devices, I cannot see the gobi 2000.How do I get the gobi to work on 9.1?

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.04 Verizon UM150 Mobile Broadband - Loses Connection And Disappears?

May 7, 2010

When using a Verizon UM150 aircard, it is quickly recognized in Ubuntu 10.04. It installs and connects quickly and seamlessly. After anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes it disconnects and then disappears from the network manager. To reconnect I have to exit and reboot into Ubuntu. I suspect that there is a conflicting driver that needs to be blacklisted.

Ubuntu Networking :: UMW190 Has No Verizon Entry In Network Manager Broadband Configuration

May 14, 2010

I am having trouble getting a Verizon UMW190 configured in Network Manager under 10.04 Lucid as a 'New Mobile Broadband Connection'. As the UMW190 is a 'World' capable mobile Broadband adapter is has both CDMA and GSM capability. I only need CDMA for now. However, when network manager detects the VZ UMW190, it does not offer Verizon as a choice in the Provider list. I searched and found references in this forum for using the UMW190 under 9.10 with gnome-ppp via this link:[URL]and tried it without any luck.I have previously used a VZ UM175 on this machine under 10.04 without any issues as Verizon appeared in the Provider list and the configuration worked without a problem.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Says Disconnected - But It Isn't ?

Oct 1, 2010

I'm having problems with my Internet. I just recently downloaded 10.04 (went from 8.04) and now I can't get online! I could yesterday! I don't have access to the router, but the internet works great on all my Windows computers. On my panel it show's my wireless connection bars with an exclamation mark and says disconnected. I don't know what to do! It's a Toshiba Satellite computer.

Also, I can't update anything, or install anything because I don't have direct access to the router. I know there is a lot of information about this problem already, but everything I've seen needs me to download new drivers. If you know how to do it from one computer to another I can do that. I'm just not very techy.

Ubuntu Networking :: Disconnected From Wireless Asking WPA Key?

Feb 19, 2011

This morning I connected to internet, using the 'hidden network' feature of Ubuntu, like I always do. In the beginning it worked well, but after a while, while playing a game, I got disconnected. As I closed this game, I discovered that Ubuntu was asking for the WPA key (it was already filled out correctly) There were no changes made in the network while I was playing. My brother and his girlfriend can both connect using their Windows 7 laptops, so the network itself should be allright.

I am running Ubuntu10.04 as a Virtual Machine in virtualbox.I changed my Networking settings from NAT to Bridged Adapter and manually assigned IP addressing information for eth0 in /etc/network/interfaces. For some reason doing /etc/init.d/networking restart didn't bring up the network interface. So i replaced the new /etc/network/interfaces file with the original and rebooted. Now I have eth1 in place of eth0. Under System>Preferences>Network Connections I have Auto Ethernet and eth0. However running ifconfig shows lo and eth1.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wired Network - You Are Now Disconnected

Jun 12, 2011

I'm having network problems and I have no idea how to fix it. At first, my internet connection was suffering on all computers on my network (Mac, Windows and Ubuntu 11,04). So, I disconnected my cable-modem and then reconnected. Nothing.... So, I rebooted my Windows machine and the internet came back on that computer.

I then went to my Ubuntu computer and clicked on "auto eth0" (per the way I interpreted instructions from the internet). The symbol turned from the "two arrows" to what looks like a wireless, looking for a signal. I thought that maybe I should just reboot, as I did with Windows. However, when I did reboot, that same wireless symbol was there, then a message came up saying:

Code:
Wired Network: You are now disconnected
I can't seem to get my internet connection back on my Ubuntu computer, though it is working on every other computer on my network.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager (Disconnected) Cannot Connect To VPN

Mar 20, 2010

I'm running Ubuntu Karmic Server with Xfce desktop, the problem is the network manager, it says it is disconnected, even though I am connected to my network and getting an internet connection. It wouldn't normally bother me, but I'm trying to setup a VPN using the network-manager-openvpn plugin. I put in the required details for the VPN connection, but as soon as I tick the "apply to all users" box, the information is lost. The information will remain if I don't tick that box, but it will not connect. when I try to select the VPN connection I just setup, nothing happens.

I've tried the exact same configuration on another desktop, running Ubuntu Karmic with Gnome desktop, the network manager works fine, my ethernet connection is showing as connected, and I can connect to the VPN no problem, the problem lies with the network manager in Xfce. Is there anyway I can get it to show as connected? it wont allow me to connect to the VPN otherwise, it's silly, because that adapter has a full working network connection.
