GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.
I thought I might be logging in to fast, but it happened again when I had waited several minutes.

Jun 2, 2011If I could I would change the boot order but I can't do that (I have a Dell Studio 1747). I try F2 to enter the BIOS set up, but I still end up with that error and never get to the setup. F12 doesn't work either (F12 is for the boot order) so I can't boot from the DVD with the Win7 installation DVD as the computer just freezes and I can't get past the Dell splash screen.
I have tried to remove the coin battery on the motherboard in an attempt to reset the BIOS but that didn't work either.
So...
F2 = error
F12 = freeze
Reset bios by removing coin size battery = no change
I assume there is no use reformatting the HD by attaching it to another computer and re-install Win7. Is it a motherboard problem?
Ubuntu :: Grub Reboots Computer Before Starting OS?
Jun 12, 2011This is a strange one. Ever since upgrading to 11.04 64-bit, I've had this problem and I've just been dealing with it...
After the machine posts, grub presents itself. Before upgrading, it would timeout after 5 seconds and boot the first/default entry. Since the upgrade, it no longer automatically boots the first entry. In addition, it reboots the computer after selecting the first entry. After it comes back up to grub, you select the first option and this time it boots.
I'm pulling my hair out on this one. I'm by no means a Linux expert, but I've been running Ubuntu for a few years now and this is one of the first issues that I've been unable to work through.

The laptop is running gentoo linux. Here is the fstab file and instead of having "boot" on its own partition I decided to have both "/" and "boot" in the same partition. This has never caused any problems before so I don't understand what the problem is now.

how is limitation with ip_recent where highest value for hit_count is 20,and how i need to modify and recompile ip_recent.But i was not able find anything about either modify or recompiling that module.I have cent os 5.4 64 bit,iptables are installed over yum.Also i have 4 servers with completely identical configuration,yet on two servers portflood works while on other two it reporting that error.Maybe it was different install cd which caused this,but again i dont know why this doesnt work since iptables version are indetical.

I have Ubuntu 9.1 with wubi and Vista on my laptop. I was playing my laptop through the TV, then I tried to switch it back to computer control and the computer went black. I had to hold to power button to restart, and suddenly grub4dos starts up when I try to launch ubuntu. I can still launch Vista. Is there anything I can do to save my system? At the very least, I would like to be able to copy data from my ubuntu system to my vista system. How can I do that? I can't find C:/ubuntu/disks. It doesn't seem to exist.

Mar 31, 2011I have openSUSE 11.4 KDE 64 bit. openSUSE is really great, but I hate the freeze when I startup my computer. Desktop appears but I cannot do anything. This takes approximately 20 to 30 seconds and than my plasmoid-networkmanager shows network is up. As from this moment freeze is over.
I already tried to switch off ipv6 and put nomodeset in grub, though this is not helping. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I can solve this?

If i connect such a iso to a VM (using virt-manager) for installing a operating system i get the following error on startup: Error starting domain: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 qemu: could not open disk image /mnt/iso/public/Linux/Distributions/Debian/debian-504-amd64-netinst.iso: Permission denied
The problem is definitly that kvm (or qemu or libvirt-bin, i don't know) tries to set permissions (rwx owner for libvirt-qemu, --- for kvm group, --- for other) on the file, although it has read permissions. Is it possible to change this behavior?

Sep 8, 2009Many of mails sent from my mail server that are in Queue;The main reason is deffered by domains like yahoo,aol,etc.but there is one more error that i keep getting and that is Host Unknown,Below is an example from mail log,The catch is,test mail sent on the same email id sent from my personal mail from the same server i.e. url was deliveredHowever,another mail containing client information sent from customercare@mycompanysdomain ended up in queue.
There are more examples of the same,around 20 domain have the same problem.

Everything has been working fine for a a long time but yesterday I tried to delete an unused partition through the Disk Utility in ubuntu (System->Adminstration->Disk Utility) and everything was messed up. I used to get the "Grub error: Unknown filesystem". I managed to create an ubuntu bootable usb and followed some tutorials for fixing grub but all i managed to do is to get another error: "Grub error: No such disc". After some experimentation i got
"Grub stage 1.5" which gave me a grub> command prompt./dev/sda is the drive containing Windows and Ubuntu.

In the torrents that do no get downloaded, I get an error message Tracker responded: Unknown error (0) in the info window, tracker tab. But there are torrents with the same tracker that don'thave a problem and get downloaded fineThe logs don't give a clue about whats wrong either.I tried downloading those torrents with Vuze and I had the same problem. Jan 3, 2011I installed on this laptop two OS : Windows XP SP3 with drivers for M11 from Toshiba download site Fedora 14 64 bits I have no problem running Windows but sometimes when I run Fedora I hear fan starting to run at full speed then computer hangs. When this occurs, I must power off it using switch then reboot and I lost my work. I try to run Memtest86 during a full night and I did not get any error or hang.
Is there somebody who already installed Fedora 14 on Toshiba Tecra M11? kernel is 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.x86_64 and my graphic card worked fine with hardware acceleration out of the box.

Ubuntu :: Error: Incorrect Format: Unknown Tag
Jan 10, 2010I've been trying to solve this problem for DAYS now, without any progress. I've searched the forums for a long time before even starting this thread. So now I need help, PLEASE. I don't want to have to use WINDOWS in order to sync my phone with my computer, that's crap and there has to be a way. I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm trying to sync my LG Versa VX960V07. When I plugged it in to begin with, it was set on Auto-Sync Music, and the phone showed that it was connecting to the computer. I set it on Data-Sync and nothing happened when I plugged it in. I set it to Ask on Plug-in, and again nothing happens, and the box on my phone that says "Sync Data; Sync Music" does not pop up like it does when using windows.
First I tried installing a bunch of different music programs, Songbird, Amarok, K3B, etc and none of them work with my phone. I can't even install the MTP add-on for songbird, it's not supported under linux. Then I tried sudo apt-get install mtp-tools, which worked. Then MTP-detect, which showed no device. I also tried the command for searching for drives attached. And it did not show a USB drive attached. My computer simply does not detect my phone.

Installing BitPim, which does not support the LG Versa, but the new 1.0.7 testing branch does. So I followed the tutorial on that page, installing Alien and trying to convert the RPM to DEB. I don't even know what these commands mean, I'm not a linux Guru, but I'm learning. I tried everything and spent like 3 hours going through this tutorial to no avail. Is it suppose to create a .deb file where the RPM is? If so it doesn't work, and it won't launch BitPim for me. I have no idea what's going on. When I try:

Apr 10, 2010I can play CDs and DVDs but when I try to burn a music CD I get:

when the CD is finalising. As data has been written to the CD, but not finalised, each time I try I use another CD.
I've used Brasero and whatever the default burner in 9.10 is with the same result. If I boot in Win7 I can burn CDs.

Jul 14, 2010I have a laptop with windows7 and ubuntu installed. When I installed Ubuntu it created 4 partitions (2 for swap and 2 for ubuntu). Yesterday, a friend of mine deleted one of the partitions (swap+linux) because they weren't being used (weren't even mounted) and he thought I could use the free space. I kept on using the laptop but today I had to reboot it. Instead of getting the usual grub menu I got this:

So, I googled for the getpwuid_r thing. I found a blog saying to install nscd (did so) and run it. But: To my inconvenience, after every booting, I have to switch to console 1, log in, run "sudo /etc/init.d/nscd restart" and then "sudo restart gdm".

Feb 7, 2010I have been using ubuntu 9.10 for a month. i have it installed on a 5GB separate partition of a 80 GB hard disk with my XP installed on a C drive(a separate partition ofcourse) then i had to remove it from my PC so i boot my PC with a partition manager cd and directly formatted that partition of 5GB from that software now i am having this error on my boot of PC....

Oct 16, 2010there was ubuntu on my pc operating system but it is strange for me so i wanted to instal windows 7 on my pc. I inserted Window 7 disk and started to install it and i formated Ubuntu but the disk what i was using was damaged and it could not complite the installation and now i dont have any programs in my pc. Problem is that i got another disk but i cant boot anymore my pc, i select drive and stuff and then comes error.
