At the time of INSTALLATION im getting errors about not able open Input/output files... and some other errors... im using SATA 80GB HDD... i have already installed XP....
the sad thing is two months back i installed UBUNTU ..and i have worked on it...
but unfortunately i formatted my entire system and now i got this problem...
I just received a 1TB external(Western Digital) hard drive(NTFS) for backup purposes. I'm using an Ubuntu Live CD, and an external hard drive dock. I am transferring over esata and am receiving the error:

Seems strange that it said "open". At any rate only about 60 of the 200+ GB were able to be transferred over...this won't do. I have tried to copy via CLI using

and received the same issue. For clarification I am attempting to transfer from a mounted partition onto the mounted external.
whenever I copy (or move) files from one place on my hd to another One or two of them dont copy, and I get an error similar to " There was an error copying the file into [location]. Show more details> Error splicing file: Input/output error. The file is always an .avi file and always between 600MB and 1.4GB in size, how can I fix this problem?

I've got input/output error from files in encrypted ext4 partition (external hdd), and I cannot delete them. What can I do to fix this? I don't need to recover them, I just need to delete them
View 4 Replies View RelatedI booted my Fedora 13 live CD on my Dell server, and configured networking and SSHd. On my desktop I logged into the live cd and started copying over a big file (1.5 GB) (i.e. copying from the desktop computer to the server). After copying about half the fil, the download fails with an error message about the filesystem being read-only.I've seen this exact same behavior on both i386 and x86_64 of the same live CD, but don't know why it's happening. I've also had the same issue when copying small files. In /var/log/messages these messages are repeated many times:

surprisingly come across this file that the ubuntu archive manager is simply unable to unpack.these are some articles that i am trying to download.strangely i have never heard of the format and the page asks me to download "stuffit expander" to allow me to view the pdf files.
however when i download the file saving it on the desktop, and try to open it, archive manager is simply unable to do so!this is the title of the downloaded file -

Ok I installed apache2 and php5 but when I go to http://domainname.com, http://localhost, http://locallanip, or http://ipaddress I get a pop up window asking me to download a file named randomstuffhere.phtml.part I have no clue on what's going on, I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that didn't seem to fix it,

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?
I use the growisofs command from the terminal to do most of my burning. Mostly because i burn almost the exact same type of file every time so its pretty easy to set up. I've done this dozens of times and never once had a problem before. I loved it because it was so much simpler than doing this in windows where i would need to install a few extra programs and codecs. That was up until today where it started failing every single time i tried to burn something.
For some reason every time i try to burn a disc it gives me this error message:

I'm really at a loss as to why this is happening. Every thread i found that discussed this problem was mostly focused on k3b or brasero and never really answered the question. As far as i know nothing has been updated since the last time i burned a disc a few days ago. Everything is exactly the same as it was when it worked. The only thing i could think of that might have caused this sudden failure is that i flashed the firmware of another cd drive using the same sata port that this drive is currently plugged into, but that was in windows so i dont see how it could have affected this drive.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. I would like to erase my old xp completely and have only ubuntu as my OS. I boot from cd but when I install it stops at 15% and keeps giving me this error:
Input/output error during write on /dev/sda.
It won't let me retry or ignore and when I cancel the installation continues until I get another error.
I installed Ubuntu 10.04 two days ago and was using my 1tb passport external HDD with it to download and store files. However today whenever i try and copy/cut and past to the HDD i get this error message..

I'm having some trouble installing Ubuntu 10.04. What I am trying to do is completely wipe all things on my computer and install Ubuntu. I have followed the instructions from Ubuntu's homepage on how to download the ISO, and ran their program to put it onto a portable USB device. Through doing all of this, I receive no error messages. Then it tells me to change the BIOS to boot from USB, so I did that. I've successfully accessed the install menu and filled in all the information requested (i.e. computer name, account name, etc.). I select that I want to delete the current partitions and use only Ubuntu. It starts to install, but at 67%, while copying files, I receive an error.

For some reason my soundcard is recording every playback sound. This become apparent when I was trying to make a Skype call and the other people couldn't hear me. I checked my sound preferences and noted that the input was recording what they say (they could hear an echo). Also if I played back anything it would redirect to them. This has never happened to me and I've made a lot of calls in the past.
I tested with Audacity and it records fine, but when I play back the recording, it redirects to the input channel so it's not a problem with Skype. (my soundcard is a VIA VT1708B 8-Ch). Somewhere I read that the output of aplay -l is useful.

I'm using FFADO on JACK in order to use my firewire device (M-Audio Profire 610) and I seem to have the opposite issue as others who have similar problems. Everything starts up fine, and I can record audio into Ardour using my inputs, but I can't get any output from any of my 8 line outs.
I've checked the connections using QjackCtl, and I tried to route audio from another program (Audacious) but I can't seem to pull audio out of the device (or the computer won't send my device audio?).
I used to be able to use Skype without a problem. I must have played with something as it now doesn't allow me to both use a microphone and external speakers at the same time.I go into sound setting and I am able to test the microphone (works) but then the speakers don't show, if I reverse the tests then the opposite happens.

I want all audio to go to my USB Headset, and not the onboard soundcard. To start off with, here's alsamixer: Here's a screenshot from Mumble (voice chat) that shows that I've set the USB headset device in there, and it works 100% fine on Mumble.
