Feb 28, 2010I am attempting to connect a bluetooth headset to a Telex Intercom System. I can connect my bluetooth headset to Ubuntu and use the microphone and the speaker perfectly. There are no problems with the Line-In or the Line-Out.
Is there any way to connect the BT-Microphone to the Line-Out while connecting the Line-In to the BT-Speaker?
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Input - Output Error With Growisofs
Mar 10, 2010I use the growisofs command from the terminal to do most of my burning. Mostly because i burn almost the exact same type of file every time so its pretty easy to set up. I've done this dozens of times and never once had a problem before. I loved it because it was so much simpler than doing this in windows where i would need to install a few extra programs and codecs. That was up until today where it started failing every single time i tried to burn something.
For some reason every time i try to burn a disc it gives me this error message:

I'm really at a loss as to why this is happening. Every thread i found that discussed this problem was mostly focused on k3b or brasero and never really answered the question. As far as i know nothing has been updated since the last time i burned a disc a few days ago. Everything is exactly the same as it was when it worked. The only thing i could think of that might have caused this sudden failure is that i flashed the firmware of another cd drive using the same sata port that this drive is currently plugged into, but that was in windows so i dont see how it could have affected this drive.

May 23, 2010I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on my desktop. I would like to erase my old xp completely and have only ubuntu as my OS. I boot from cd but when I install it stops at 15% and keeps giving me this error:

It won't let me retry or ignore and when I cancel the installation continues until I get another error.

Aug 19, 2010I'm having some trouble installing Ubuntu 10.04. What I am trying to do is completely wipe all things on my computer and install Ubuntu. I have followed the instructions from Ubuntu's homepage on how to download the ISO, and ran their program to put it onto a portable USB device. Through doing all of this, I receive no error messages. Then it tells me to change the BIOS to boot from USB, so I did that. I've successfully accessed the install menu and filled in all the information requested (i.e. computer name, account name, etc.). I select that I want to delete the current partitions and use only Ubuntu. It starts to install, but at 67%, while copying files, I receive an error.
This error is:

Oct 2, 2010I got interested in it when trying to play Windows games on my Mac. I've tried WINE and didn't get anywhere fast, but thats another thread for a different forum.
For now I'd like to try Ubuntu. I downloaded the ISO and burned it to a DVD and a CD.
When booting up my computer I get this message:

Nov 11, 2010I just received a 1TB external(Western Digital) hard drive(NTFS) for backup purposes. I'm using an Ubuntu Live CD, and an external hard drive dock. I am transferring over esata and am receiving the error:

Seems strange that it said "open". At any rate only about 60 of the 200+ GB were able to be transferred over...this won't do. I have tried to copy via CLI using

and received the same issue. For clarification I am attempting to transfer from a mounted partition onto the mounted external.

Jun 9, 2011For some reason my soundcard is recording every playback sound. This become apparent when I was trying to make a Skype call and the other people couldn't hear me. I checked my sound preferences and noted that the input was recording what they say (they could hear an echo). Also if I played back anything it would redirect to them. This has never happened to me and I've made a lot of calls in the past.
I tested with Audacity and it records fine, but when I play back the recording, it redirects to the input channel so it's not a problem with Skype. (my soundcard is a VIA VT1708B 8-Ch). Somewhere I read that the output of aplay -l is useful.

Jun 11, 2011I'm using FFADO on JACK in order to use my firewire device (M-Audio Profire 610) and I seem to have the opposite issue as others who have similar problems. Everything starts up fine, and I can record audio into Ardour using my inputs, but I can't get any output from any of my 8 line outs.
I've checked the connections using QjackCtl, and I tried to route audio from another program (Audacious) but I can't seem to pull audio out of the device (or the computer won't send my device audio?).

I must have played with something as it now doesn't allow me to both use a microphone and external speakers at the same time.I go into sound setting and I am able to test the microphone (works) but then the speakers don't show, if I reverse the tests then the opposite happens.

I want all audio to go to my USB Headset, and not the onboard soundcard. To start off with, here's alsamixer: Here's a screenshot from Mumble (voice chat) that shows that I've set the USB headset device in there, and it works 100% fine on Mumble.

Apr 8, 2010I got a new HDD like a Storage on my Ubuntu ,it is formated as ext3 and i am able to mount it ,but sometimes while downloading from FTP ,when the session broke Ubuntu crates some ./afternature.mp4 Input/output error ,which i can see on "ls -l" ,and that causes great troubles to me ,because i can not copy or write on that disk another file with the same one which is created like this ,these error are gone only if i format the hdd .
My mounting command is "mount /dev/hdb3 /tmp/hd ext3 rw 0 0" So is that possible to remove these error without formatting the disk . PS:I did a lot of search for that error ,on unix forums also here but i didn`t find a concrete answer ,i found a thread which is for that case but removing with inode is impossible because on ls -l i`m not receiving the inode .

Ubuntu Installation :: Can't Mount Dev Loop0 - Always Getting Input / Output Error
Jan 17, 2011The trouble I'm having is that when I load a bootable USB/CD of 64bit 10.10, I always get an error that looks a little like: "(initramfs) mount: mounting /dev/loop0 on //filesystem.squashfs failed: input/output error. Can not mount /dev/loop0 (cdrom/casperfilesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs." I've done some googling and I've noticed people have had the same problem. They say the alternate downloads could be the problem, or the CD, and that I should use the UNetbootin application. I guess I should start with describing my build:

1. Going to the DL page, DLing 64bit 10.10, and mounting the image to create a bootable CD (by the procedure offered on the DL page).
2. Using Unetbootin to create a bootable USB (this I did multiple tmes, with different versions: 10.10 64bit desktop, 10.04 64 bit desktop, and I'm about to try another DL except I forgot which one I'm using, but I'll find out in a bit )..........
Ubuntu :: Dd Input/output Error - Copy Disc W/2 Partitions?
Mar 3, 2011I was given a CD for work purposes and when I put the disc into the drive I get 2 disc icons on my desktop. One has data (a pdf file) and the other has serveral audio tracks. I tried to use dd to image the disc but it gives an input/output error immediately without copying anything. If I try to use brasero or k3b to copy the disc it only copies the audio portion. The data portion does not show up in the drop down to copy - only the audio. If I right-click the data (or audio) desktop icon and select 'copy' from the shortcut menu then it creates an image of the audio portion.
for dd i tried:
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/username/test.iso
This give an immediate error with no data written to the iso file.
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=/home/username/test.iso bs=2M conv=notrunc,noerror
This copies a small amount of data to an iso file but it wasn't usable.
Ubuntu :: Install 11.04 - Installer Crashed Saying Something About An Input / Output Error
Apr 28, 2011So, I recently installed, or.. ermm.. Tried to install Ubuntu 11.04, I did it with a CD. This is about my 4th time around with Ubuntu, so I'm not completely new to it. But, I used to have Windows 7 on here, and I decided I wanted to go with Ubuntu, so I downloaded and burned the CD, and did all the stuff you need to do to install Ubuntu. I got far into the installation, and then the installer crashed saying something about an Input/Output error, and it could be the CD being dirty or damaged.
Now, I'm stuck with a broken operating system because I chose to replace my Windows 7 partion with Ubuntu, and there's no terminal! Everything else seems to be here, it's just really buggy, and I can't get much of anything installed.

Sep 20, 2010Everytime I attempt to Install Ubuntu or Mint, I get the above error and I am unsure as to why it keeps happening. I read on other forums it can be due to your optical drive so I tried 4 different burners and 3 different types of CD's.
I know they work fine because I use them for other PC's. I've used them on windows XP, Vista, 7 and Mandriva Linux without a single problem. It's only when attempting to install Ubuntu or Mint that I get these errors and it happens every time.
In the error it also mentions that their may be a problem with your HDD, but I've used that HDD for windows xp through its whole life, I only just reformatted earlier in an attempt to install Linux.

What I want to do is be able to update my twitter account with the current defcon status (this is really more of a learning thing than something I actually want to be doing). The original script for tweet replaced $@ with $1, but if I use:
tweet `defcon`
it only uses the first word in the string, similarly if I used $2 or $3.So I changed it to $@. The normal function still works, but typing:
tweet `defcon`
updates twitter with nothing.
EDIT I should mention the /dev/null is there to catch the output of curl, otherwise it won't run silently. It still updates twitter normally with the send to /dev/null
