I have problem with laptop installed Ubuntu OS. Laptop can't connect Internet when open again after standby Mod. It can't receive issued IP from Router.

On "suspend," the wireless card appears to close connections correctly. Then, >15 minutes later, the laptop's wifi LED lights up and the laptop generates heat.
The computer should be on standby, but instead it's waking itself up and running down the battery.
Are there any programs that might be failing to suspend for sleep? Are there any settings to prevent the wifi card from waking the computer?
I only noticed this because the laptop was getting hot and the battery was wearing down.
i have a problem with my new router and ubuntu 10.10. The problem is that my internet connection show me that my laptop had connect to internet but my browser can't open a website ( this problem is the same with my netbook ) to fix it always must turn it off and after on either it never makes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have finally gotten my courage up and decided to take the plunge into Linux. I bought a used HP Pavilion zt1135 laptop, and loaded Ubuntu 10.04. The laptop has no other operating system on it. Everything seems to work fine except it won't connect to the internet. I am using a Comcast cable modem, which uses DHCP and a wired connection. It works fine on my XP computer, but on the Ubuntu laptop it claims there is no network connected. Firefox gives a message something like "No server found".
I have tried recycling the power to the modem and then booting up the laptop. I have tried unchecking "Enable Networking" and then re-checking it. I have checked the ethernet cable on another machine and found it OK. Is it possible Ubuntu does not have drivers for this laptop's ethernet connection, or that the laptop is defective?
Sorry if this is already posted, but I wasnt sure the right keywords to use the search feature... I am somewhat familiar with older Ubuntu, but recently got 11.04 and installed it on my girlfriends laptop and during installation when it was scanning for the DHCP or whatever it says it failed to find it or something or other and it gave options to do it manually or to do it later so I chose to do it later and after booting into the OS I can not do anything via the internet, not even updates. I have tried looking at the network connections and the only thing there is a wired connection. This laptop accesses the internet through a desktop with Cox cable internet and a wireless router...

View 8 Replies View Relatedi have 3 comps(running ubuntu 10.04) and a laptop(running vista sp2). i have installed samba on all ubuntu comps. i have a printer attached to one of the comps and it has been shared also the internet connection on that comp has been shared. all the computers are connected using lan cables through an ethernet switch. i also have a wireless router which is connected to the ethernet switch.
I am able to view all the comps on the network except the laptop running vista. all the desktops are visible on the network and are able to print and share files on the network and also connect to the internet.the laptop running vista can connect to the internet but its not visible on the network and nor can it share files across the network or access the printer.all the systems have a static ip.
I have Xubuntu with XFCE Desktop installed. I have disabled all screensaver and power save options, but Monitor still goes into black standby mode. Howto prevent this?

I have tried all the usual things within KDE but with no success. Quite often I watch a dvd film on my PC and it is most annoying when the monitor switches off during a film. Is there an option within xorg.conf to stop this from occurring? My monitor is an LCD Benq FP91G+.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to make it so I can let my laptop go into standby that is connected to my printer and make it so that I can still see the printer from my other systems. Then if I print something it brings the networked printer/laptop out of standby and prints my job. I just ran a test and when my system went into standby the printer went "offline" and I couldn't print from it. I don't want to be forced to leave my computer fully on 24/7 to have a networked printer.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu 9.10 server edition (twice, just to be sure) and the installation ran fine, but when I try to boot into the system, i get past the BIOS loading screen then my monitor just goes into power saving mode and I can't get it to see a signal from the PC. I know the OS is running, because I can ssh into it from my laptop, and I know the monitor works, because that machine had a windows OS on it before and that worked fine with the same monitor. I had thought it might be a graphics card thing with ubuntu trying to push out at a resolution not supported by the monitor, but I find that unlikely as it's brand new this month. If anyone has any idea of something I can try to diagnose the problem, that would be great. As I said, I still have ssh access to the PC, so I can basically try anything on it that I could if I was physically at the box itself.

I have downloaded 9 files from: source code, exe x2, makefile, txt,and 2 shell script files. The exe files give me the msg "could not display file name etc" There is no app installed for exe files What dont I know and where can I find it. Would it be easier to take the machine to an internet cafe and plug in a cable to get it online, atm my other machine is a eee pc windows 7 starter and it has some weird stuff going on, says it has over 10 viruses? Anyway cant wait to get this over to Linux too.

I would simply unplug the ethernet from the windows desktop plug it to my laptop and I was good 2 go.have recently moved and my roommate has a cable modem w/ wifi capabilities. When I plug in I am told that I am connected but......Nothing. dont know if the problem is due to the modem having wireless capabilities when my old one did not or the fact that my roommate has a win7 laptop that is connected via wifi etc. There have been a FEW times that I have walked out plugged in and everything has ran well. when I do plug in I look under connection information and I am told that I am connected at 100Mbps but whenever I try to visit a page I am out of luck. My landlord upstairs just got a new modem and WiFi by Clear.com and when trying to get the WiFi to work...it just wouldn't connect with my laptop. They have 2 computers upstairs, one laptop and one desktop that recognized the WiFi and don't have any trouble using it. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router.
