View 2 RepliesI'm running GNOME under Lucid on a 64-bit machine. Here's the background: Yesterday, I tried to delete a subfolder of my Local Folders directory. Right-clicking on the subfolder offered the usual menu of options including "Delete", but selecting "Delete" left the folder in place. In floundering around trying things to solve the problem, I tried opening Thunderbird from the command line, using "sudo thunderbird", following which I succeeded in deleting the recalcitrant subfolder. Here's the first stage in the problem:
But when I next opened Thunderbird in ordinary mode (i.e., as "ron" not as "superuser"), I discovered that the Inbox was no longer accessible. Clicking on "Get Mail" yielded only a small wheel-icon that spins, presumably showing activity in progress, without actually finishing by getting mail. The other various folders seemed to operate normally, in that they showed their contents when clicked on.

I am running thunderbird in lucid (64 bits) and I manage two hotmail account from it. One of them is fetching messages twice, meanwhile the other one works fine...is it double space in hard disk? Each message is repeated and one of the couple is marked as unread (new)...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot read html in emails or in Firefox.It was working fine until I tried to modify the message composition settings in the Preferences menu.I was trying to make it so that I could forward messages in HTML to send to a colleague his flight itinerary.I had set all my messages to be composed in plain text by default with Enigmail.A Google search page for example will only show images but no text is rendered. I can see the blue underlines for links.
If I highlight the webpage and copy it to the Notepad, I can read the text. So the issue isn't that the pages aren't loading, but they are not displaying correctly.The same problem is also now present in my email.Please help! I don't know what to do short of reinstalling Ubuntu and I would rather not.I am on version 9.10 if that helps.
I have the strangest issue where my HDD reports full, but I can only account for about a tenth of the data.

The rest are below a MB. This system is not a dual boot so 241Gb is ext4 and 8.9Gb is Extended and 8.9GB is Swap. This system has been loaded for about a month, when I initially loaded it there was 230GB free.
Being a noob to gnome. i was playing around with rhythmbox and suddenly found i could not close it. I had lost the title bar and the quit selection in the file menu was grayed out. Alt-tab seemed to work but rythmbox stayed on top (so it essentially didn't work). I finally had to go to cl and kill -9. Not the optimal way to shut down an app.So, to recap... rythmbox fills screen with it's menubar at top and it's status bar at bottom
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having the oddest problem. I use Ubuntu 10 LTS on 3 Amazon EC2 "large" instances, for Drupal hosting. All three servers are seeing the same issue, where root gradually fills up with files that I cannot see by any means. ls -a , du , nothing seems to see these files except for df. And when the drive gets full (after about a week), the server behaves as if the disk is full... so I believe that df is correct here. The moment I restart mysql, all that invisible data disappears, and everything is fine again.
The MySQL datadir is on a separate device (600GB EBS mounted at /ebs ), so it's definitely not MySQL data. And /tmp doesn't have anything visible going on; certainly not something that would take up 9gb.
I suspect that something is causing the kernel to not release file handlers correctly. For all I know this could be happening with all programs, but MySQL is the only thing running that would use enough temp space to be noticed. Each server has some applications that happen on it uniquely, but since it's happening on all of them I figure it's the common elements that count. The servers are a clean install, running Apache2 (PHP 5.3), MySQL, and SSHD. All three servers were installed from the official AMI.
I was curious about the constantly blinking HDD led on my netbook, and I found out, that the modem-manager daemon constantly spamming my logs.The affected logs are syslog, daemon.log and debug.he modem-manager service drops a line every 2 second (actual time) to these 3 logfile.It is just a conncetion information, like this:

I was just copying a large (50GB) file from one mounted partition to another mounted partition (a USB drive), but before the operation completed, my root filesystem, on a separate partition, filled up.Because it filled up I also couldn't get past the login when I rebooted. I think this is because there is no room to load temporary files. I'm expanding the root partition to temporarily fix this. how can I avoid my root file system filling up when copying a massive file between mounted partitions? the file is being cached in root during the transfer.

I takes several minutes to fill the swap space, and when it gets full, it then goes back to 300 MB. Then the system runs ok.The system monitor shows no processes (other than itself) running, but cpu usage is about 20% on 1 of the 2 cpus

I used the alternate installer and toward the end of that step, it told me the step failed. I simply skipped the step because of this. The result: I've got Ubuntu going, but it's only the command line. I need some help getting GNOME installed from here. I searched and saw people saying to use sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop, but that just fills my screen with messages about missing files.

I have no logs at this time since, i wiped the original install out, i am just finishing out the download of the live CD and will try again. The qustion is is something i have an ovious issue, like the 2 video cards or something incompatable etc?

I'm running rTorrent as daemon on same machine, and I suspect it's trying to access something like http://localhost/announce. But that's just my guess, is it some misconfiguration of rTorrent, and how do I fix that? Or should I just ignore all those errors.
Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.
I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?
At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.
Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

Literally, the process is

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.
Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.
My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;
1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and
2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?
I'm currently working on telling my Ubuntu Laptop to do everything I'm able to do with my MacBook. Not so much the look (I love Ubuntu's look) but the functionality.I somehow can't seem to get a unified inbox in Evolution. I got 6 IMAP accounts each with a separate inbox which is quite annoying. I've gotten used to Apple's Mail.app and I'm missing that option in Ubuntu.The only thing that COULD be a unified inbox would be "On this Computer" but I don't see any option to integrate my accounts to it.

Getting no errors from them either thunderbird nor Evolution.On the server (Cento 5.3) the email is in /var/spool/mail/ username. Sending a receiving email on the server itself whats fine using the mail commands. Is their a setting in Dovecot I'm over looking?

It is easy to get them back by disabling and enabling the account, but then it may disappear again in a while.I saw this in a bug report later, but no fix. I shouldn't like to degrade to an earlier version, unless no other way.

I set up the email (Postfix) to work with Dovecot to enable IMAP and POP support.The mails can be retrieved and sent through this server with no hassles. We just have an issue that all emails sent via a client to any other address (be it on the same domain or not) will return to the inbox of that client.So basically, I open MS Outlook. Click new message and send it off to my GMail address. After I send it, it pops into my inbox on Outlook (stating that it came from me). The intended recipient also gets the message.

My problem is (after substantial searching) that I need to have both users ('juliusz' and 'sarah') running Thunderbird but with the same profile (settings, email, accounts etc. preferably of 'juliusz'). The only results on the internet are share Thunderbird between Windows and Ubuntu.
I have two users juliusz and sarah. I need either of them to have the same profile, always in synch whenever they logon to own account. When I tried to edit sarah's /home/sarah/.mozilla-thunderbird/profile.ini by inserting: Path=/home/juliusz/.mozilla-thunderbird/xxxxxxx.default after i run Thunderbird for 'sarah' I get message: "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, or restart your system." I checked with "ps aux" there is no Thunderbird running in sarah's session. There is no Thunderbird running in juliusz's session when I reloged to juliusz.
I've just hit an artificial 2GB file limit with my Inbox. WTF is this about, on fedora core 12 ! This is the type of crap I moved away from windows to avoid....
Now what ? I have to delete mail ? Migrate client ?
I routinely create files of over 12GB so its not a filesystem problem or limit .

I switched from using a webmail interface to using Evolution over IMAP. I wanted to do this so I could have all my mail stored local and be able to search and work offline if need be. I'm now logged in via Evolution and can read my mail. I have the INBOX folder configured with "Copy folder content locally for offline operation" checked. But it's only storing each of the messages I actually read. I have over 9000 messages in this and other folders, so clicking on each of those is not practical. How can I trigger a "download everything in this folder" operation? I don't see anything obvious in the menus. I tried some things mentioned in the FAQ that might have implied this, such as double clicking the folder. But nothing is pulling down all the mail into local, besides doing it one by one for each message I manually read.
