Software :: Scroll One Line Each Time Like Gedit Does When Scrolling In Gedit?
Oct 29, 2010
When scrolling down in nano with keyboard (holding "down" key), nano scrolls several lines at once each time. Is there any possibility to configure it so it will scroll one line each time like gedit does when scrolling in gedit?

Using the latest version of Ubuntu desktop on an emachine t5062 if it matters. I have a text file of keywords that is one-three words line after line for like 5000 lines. How would I go about adding a word to each line.Aside from typing it in or copying and pasting.If it can`t be done with Gedit I am all for using another program.

Strange line of text appeared on open gedit page on first use after upgrade from 10.04 t0 10.10. I was reading something and copypasting the odd bit onto a gedit note: left the room, returned to find blank page except for "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn". Then I saw that it was just the tail-end of a longer line which had stretched the page width to max, and by deleting backwards I arrived beneath my intact notes. The line was "I[my bolding]nnnnnnnnnn...nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnby v9898". I googled v9898. And there's a v9898. com. It provides something for Windows systems.

Just did a fresh install of fedora 14 (laughlin). I want to run gedit as root ... that's my prefered way for creating and adjusting system config files. Now I'm very stuck ... can't even access yum.conf to set keepcache. I get:
Code: (gedit:2598): EggSMClient-WARNING **: Failed to connect to the session manager: None of the authentication protocols specified are supported ** GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2270:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)

I'm trying to use gedit as root to edit some config files, but everytime I try to open it, I get this mess. I had a similar issue with debian, and someone solved it by telling my to run gksu nautilus. I tried to run gksu gedit, but apparently that doesn't work on Fedora. I really like Fedora, and I want to stick with it, but if I can't edit these files, I'm going to have issues.
Code:
[kevin@senbonsakura ~]$ su
Password:
[root@senbonsakura kevin]# gedit
[Code]....

as I found an easy way to create a shortcut for the terminal on the net, I was trying to apply the same method to create a shortcut for gedit, which is a great text editor that I use very often.I don't know what when wrong but I must miss something because it obviously doesn't work.Here is what I did:1.ran: sudo gconf-editor2. went to /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands3. Set "command_2" to "gedit" (I also tried with "gedit-2" as it is the name of it in the list of the applications in the apps folder)4. went to to /apps/metacity/global_keybindings5. set "run_command_2" to the key I wanted, <Control><Shift>g(I tried as well with other combinations such as <Alt>g, <Shift>g, no successAnyone knows what I didn't do or did wrong?(I suppose that it comes for the name of the command on step 3, but I don't know what could be the name to put (if you guys could also tell me where to find a kind of list for the names to put in, like for others programs, it would be nice)

I'm using Fedora 10 with XFCE. Every time I open Gedit, it opens a instance on every workspace. The circle icon on my window border is selected (meaning, enabled on all workspaces). When I disable it to appear on one workspace, then close and restart(program), Gedit opens normal (current workspace). Question is: How to keep this current configuration? If I restart my system, and start up Gedit, it appears on all workspaces again.

I use a linux machine at work and a mac at home. I can ssh from my machine at home to my work machine. But the only editor that I have access to on the command line then is vi, which I don't like.
Is there a way to use gedit on my mac to edit files remotely over an ssh connection?
This page says that it can be done, but I think that it assumes that you are using gedit on ubuntu. On my mac (os 10.5.8) I don't have the "bookmark" option when I click "connect to server".

I use gedit for most of my document editing and reading. But if I need to open a document thats in either the rtf or doc format, I end up having to open up OpenOffice (which takes a while on a netbook). Not to mention I have to use up precious disk space with OO.o installed. So I ask, is there anyway to add support for those two documents types?

I just updated to 10.04 from 9.10 and suddenly gedit is saying I don't have permission to save files in an sshfs-mounted directory. Nothing I've found through Google works.
* I'm mounting using `sshfs james@of1-dev-james:/home/james/projects $HOME/projects`
* `fuse` is listed in /etc/modules
* I'm a member of the `fuse` group
* Using `newgrp fuse` before mounting stops gedit from seeing the mounted directory at all.
* /dev/fuse belongs to `root:fuse` and has `crw-rw-rw-` permission.
* Other apps e.g. `nano` have no problem reading/writing to this directory.

I am using Lucid and am having a problem logging out of a ssh -X connection after I had forwarded an X window during it. I don't know if this is the proper place to be posting such a problem but I can think of nowhere else. Please feel free to redirect me elsewhere.At google's suggestion, I tried redirecting the pipes but that didn't help. I am not sure this helps but I did a verbose output of an example ssh session. I login, open a window, close it without doing anything, and then attempt to logout. It hangs which forces me to use ^c on it.

know how to add a space between all the lines in a document using gedit? In order for a specific script I have to read each specific line, there must be a space in between them. And my current document has well over 1100 different things, and as such, having to add a space between each one would take awhile by hand.

I have a few .txt files that when opened in gedit give me an error "Could not open the file - gedit has not been able to detect the character encoding" HOWEVER, I can see some of the contents of the files (a few words) in the icon preview in nautilus. Also, I can open these documents in notepad (using wine) though I'd prefer to use gedit.
These might not all be txt files. I know one is directory of important phone numbers that was in some obscure format that could only be opened on a nokia phone.
