Ubuntu :: Size Of A File Scrolling The Mouse Over?
Jun 5, 2010I was wondering if there is a way of knowing the size of a file just by positioning the mouse over that file?

View 2 RepliesI just finished installing 10.04. When I use the mouse wheel to scroll up, Firefox loads previous pages in my history. I had the same problem in 9.10. I've searched through the net looking for solutions. Most solutions talk about adjusting mousewheel.withnokey options. However, everything I try doesn't stop it from loading previous pages when using the mouse wheel to scroll up. My current settings are as follows:
mousewheel.withnokey.action = 0
mousewheel.withnokey.numlines = 6
mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines = true
Using the mouse wheel to scroll down works fine. It's only when scrolling up. Has anyone else experienced this problem. I'm using a Microsoft Optical Intellimouse
I have a 4-way logitech side scrolling mouse and had it set up that (button7) which was left would rotate my desktop cube left, and the same with (button6) which was right. Now with my new motherboard I need to plug in USB, and left and right side scroll is captured as the same as left and right on the directional pad. How can I re-assign my mouse as button 6 & 7?
Does anyone know why scroll left and right are set as keyboard left and right? Does anyone know how to fix it, or reassign the buttons?
I dont know why this is happening to me. Maybe it's because I have so many things running, but its mainly just browsers and stuff that hardly require cpu usage. Sometimes (and its getting worse now) when i try to highlight the text on a web page, it wont work, the mouse pointer will be the arrow instead of the "I" like symbol which signifies the possibility for text highlighting. Then after a little while it will become the "I" symbol so I can highlight the text. It will switch on and off like that and make it really hard for me to do things.
Also, sometimes I cannot scroll down, it wont work when i hold the side bar thing and scroll it down, but after a few seconds it may work. This happens on my browser as well as amarok so far. I hope someone has experienced something like this because its getting frustrating.
UPDATE: Happens on KMess too. I cant type in the convo box sometimes. So I have to minimize and maximize it in order for it to work. Also if I have a browser up in the background while a Kmess convo box is infront, I cant click to the browser when its right there, even though I can click on it in the taskbar, if you know what i mean.
I'm seeking workarounds for this problem:When you mouse scroll in website with java content (happens often for with these: [URL], then X crashes and everything goes back to gdm screen. It happens mostly when I'm down in the page and mouse scroll up back into the direction of the java content. I'm running Karmic + FF 3.5.7 + Java Plug-in 1.6.0_15 + NoScript 1.9.9.45.

Recently my mouse fell on the ground and now whenever I move it, it scrolls to left or right insanely! (the problem is with the mouse, it scrolls to left/right all the time)I'm wondering how can I disable horizontal scrolling only for my mouse and not my touchpad.It's really annoying wherever there's a horizotal scrollbar or horizontal scrolling can be used on it!

Am wondering if it as something to do with the rectangular size of laptop monitor???
View 5 Replies View RelatedSuddenly, today my mouse seems to have a mind of it's own. For no reason, it's suddenly jumping and scrolling all over the desktop in rapid fashion and apparently left-clicking at will. Reboot does not solve the problem, although it became less after the reboot.
Updates today were:
This is a generic optical mouse that's been used for several years without incident.
So, is there anything that might have caused the problem or is the mouse kaput?
Okay, dug through the drawers and found a Logitech usb optical mouse. Giving that a try as it seems to me that the mouse may be shot.
I use an MS mouse/keyboard combo model 6000 (ver. 2) and for the most part they work great, that is except for a problem with the mouse wheel scrolling through the desktops if the cursor is on a desktop.If the cursor is in/on a window it scrolls through the window as normal.t also scrolls through the desktops if I "side click" the mouse wheel as well. I've run sax2 and the mouse moduledoesn't even appear but my Wacom tablet settings do. Very perplexing to say the least.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a lil' problem with a new project. I'd like to find out how to set the ability to change to the next track in a playlist by using ongly the scroll wheel of a standard usb mouse. The objective is to assign a keystroke or a command to both mouse button 4 and mouse button 5 (scroll wheel up and scroll wheel down), so that a program like rythmbox or vlc would skip to the next or previus song in the playlist.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUnfortunately, I've encountered a disaster the likes of which I've never seen before:Yesterday, in slackware 13.1, while using firefox, the window would no longer move or resize, and I could no longer click on things in that window.While this happens, the icons in xfce4 panel no longer acknowledge that the mouse is rolling over them, so I can't launch terminal from a panel, etc.; however I am still able to right click on desktop and open terminal and other apps that way.Since it was high time to upgrade to 13.37, and since I was experiencing weirdness, I decided to do a clean install: I actually repartitioned my drive, and reformatted the partitions (all xfs, and after backing up my data, of course)...
I don't know if that's significant, or not. there seems to be some lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log about my logitech mouse.way too complicated to write by hand.I will log out and back on... sometimes that frees up other windows. Then I'll add the Xorg.0.log.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying for quite some days to change the size and theme of the cursor . I was expecting that there be something in preferences in GNOME v2 but is not there (Is there some enhancement there in GNOME v3?) Anyways, after googling quite a bit, I came across a tip to change the the cursor theme. sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme The thing to do here is choose some alternative theme and logout and login back.

Press enter to keep the current choice[*], or type selection number: I haven't been able to find how to change cursor sizes as well and what the current size is? I did find another command xrdb -query but that also doesn't seem to be much helpful either :-

I like less and use it as my default pager in Linux. However, there are times that I am scrolling down through a large document quickly and less exits when I reach the end of the document before I have time to stop scrolling. I'd like less to exit only I type q, and not because I ask it to scroll beyond the end of the document. Is that possible?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am curious if perhaps I am doing something wrong extracting pages from a pdf doc using pdftk and creating a new file. I am only extracting the odd pages from the file and outputting them to a new file that is now only 20 pages instead of the input's 40 pages, yet the new output file is still 1.4Mb in size, the same as the original.
It seems strange to extract only half the pages of a large document and end up with a result that is the same size. how to streamline the resulting pdf's using pdftk?
BTW this is the command I am using, in case perhaps I am missing an option to optimize file size or something:
Code:
pdftk A=ch15.pdf cat A1-40odd output odd.pdf
I'm researching about symbolic links been used with samba / CIFS:I'd like that the user that uses a MS-Windows OS could see my shared folder on CentOS 5 and the symbolic links that are inside this folder. Well, it works but, the user will see that the size of the file is bigger than the real file. Apparently, CIFS gets the size of the symbolic link (aproxim.32K) and add it to the size of the file.Example 1: 100KB file, used with shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 100KBExample 2: 100KB file, used with symbolic link inside a shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 132KB. (Sym link + size of file)Is there a way to allow the user only see the size of the file, and not the file + symbolic links ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was just testing specifying limit on file size to a user and have added the following to /etc/security/limits.conf bob soft fsize 100 This basically should have said not to allow bob to create anyfile greater than 100Kb in size.
But the interesting thing is, if bob already has any file which is greater than 100Kb in size, it even doesn't allow to log him into the system both from console and SSH. Also nothing is logged in logs.. How do I configure it so that, bob can login to the system even though he has any file greater than 100Kb (but doesn't allow him to create file which are greater than 100Kb) ??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using DD to backup entire system partitions and now I am trying to restore one. The resulting disk image from my buggy process has zero bytes. D'oh.It apparently thinks the image was trailing garbage and ignores it. It deletes the original file and replaces it with a zero byte .dd file. I have the original copy of the image in a dd.gz file. It's 6.3 GB so it may still contain the data.How do I get the original image back without destroying it again?

Is it anyway possible to reduce size more? Something like Google does with their books?
After screwing up an update to Ubuntu 11.04 I decided to do a clean install. I tried downloading the AMD64 DVD image of 11.04 but I have found that some of the files cannot be downloaded and appear to have bad file size. In several mirrors and repositories I found the image size to be only 46.1 MB! (Yes, thats "Mega"-bytes, not Giga-bytes. I ftp'd to the repositories/mirror sites and confirmed this.) Yet in many of the HTTP pages it shows as 4.0 GB.I can't believe that the true size is 46.1 MB as the i386 DVD image is over 3 GB. 4.0 GB sound right, but doesn't match the actual file size. So, how long until it gets updated?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a large file (deflated size: 602191947)that is not saved in my Ubuntu One account. On sync'ing the file is being uploaded, and eventually reaches 602191947 - and then nothing more happens to this file - but sync'ing the following files in the queue goes on with success. I have tried manual upload with the same result. The file is still being marked as 'uploading' even after several tries and log ins/log outs, and reboots. So I was just wondering whether there is a file size limit - can't seem to find information regarding this.
