i am using ubuntu 8.1, please i love that ubuntu version and it's why i haven't upgraded yet because i have tried the other versions and i didn't really like them. i have a 40GB HD and 512MB RAM, 1.8GHZ processor, i am using pentium 4.
I am just wondering if I have a HDD with several partitions, sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4. SDA is how Linux understund entire HDD, and sda1 is the first partition. But the question is if first 512 bytes of sda1 are the same as first 512 bytes in sda.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.
The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.
I'm currently learning the u-boot bootloader for an ARM926EJ-S system. The flash memory of the board is only 4mb. My bootloader is consuming 3 sectors and is approximately 195kb. I am using dfu protocol to update the firmware of the device. Is there any possible way to know the memory usage of the dfu protocol when the upgrading begins? How much memory does it consume when it is triggered in the bootloader?

I'm getting the following errors when I try to start skype:

I installed Skype from the slacky.it package HERE. Everything was fine, all was stable and rosey, until I installed Inkscape today. I hadn't even noticed it wasn't running until someone got a hold of me and said they were trying to get a hold of me. When I went to fire it up, thinking that I had somehow inadvertently closed it, it sprang right up for just a second and then was gone. Same thing - three times in row. So I tried starting if from the command line and got that error. I can start it from the comman line as root, with the following error:

The deps for Inkscape that I installed, and in the following order, were all from the 13.1 repo, and the ones I didn't already have installed were:

The problem is that the os will work fine when booted from CD in fail safe mode and can be installed from there but when out of fail safe mode the system begins to boot but freezes and will do nothing more.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe day started as usual until I got the very bright idea to install Ubuntu. A new OS along side W7, that sounded great. I checked some guides on the Internet, it was all very straight forward. Install it and Grub will show you the OS:es when you boot up. I installed Ubuntu, rebooted. After the BIOS messages the screen goes blank and my screen on-button begins to blink, as if trying to find a signal, I press enter, it reboots instantly. After BIOS messages I get to a screen that says "GRUB error: uknown filesystem grub rescue>"
I've looked through everything here and nothing works. I've tried to fix the mbr-thingy using Windows Repair and even though it says "one partition was updated with new boot-thingy" when I reboot, I get into that very same grub rescue. I think my setup has something to do with it. I run RAID0 (2x360Gb hard drives), first having C: at 50Gb and then the rest as F: for programs and such. What I did was that I shrunk the F: part and then used that as partition for Ubuntu. Also please have a look at these screenshots, my partitiontables and such seems completely wacky to the raid: Where should the boot-loader go? I'm very, very new at this. I've had Ubuntu Netbook remix on my netbook for a time but still treat me as an utter beginner.
Does anyone know what software creates them? Can I safely delete them?
Here is an example name: .fr-AYuDW9
I need a standalone calendar application for ubuntu lucid. I used Sunbird under karmic and LOVED it and the add-ons I could use with it (automatic export of calendars, among other things) but it's been discontinued. I don't want to use Lightning, because I want a standalone program that won't have too many dependencies. Chandler has also been discontinued, so that's not an option.
EDIT: Evolution doesn't work for me because I can't use it without an email address. Since I don't use my email through that package, that restriction makes the program useless to me.
I was able to connect my Evolution to our Exchange Server 2003.I'm able to get my mail and calendar. When I add a second email account, I can get the mail, but if I try to show the calendar for the second email account, it only duplicates the entries from the original account and doesn't show anything that is on the second account's calendar.
View 1 Replies View Relatedbeen using 11.2 with KDE on a Sony laptop since 11.2 was released always ran perfect suddenly I can't login, I get to the login screen type in password it begins to load my desktop, then fails and dumps me back to the login screen I can login as root, all my stuff is there (under /home/me) I tried changing my password, no luck I went to run level 3 and there I can login just fine seems to be something with my KDE profile
any ideas where I might find some error messages telling me what's going on?
this seemed to happen when I was running "blender" and making the machine do some heavy number crunching, it actually locked up.
In Evolution, suddenly something went wrong, and one of the Calendars (my personal calendar, i have two more) doesn't appear any more. I cannot select it either; when I try to select it, the tick appears for a second (less actually) and disappears again, and the elements on dates don't even appear in that time.
So I tried something to see if something else was going on; I tried to copy the Calendar (right click and Copy..) and I can do it with every Calendar but that one, because a message comes up "Could not open source". Also I've noticed when making right click on it, the "Delete" option is greyed out, not available.
align the calendar with the rest
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can see no easy way to launch the calendar from within evolution. In previous versions there were buttons to switch between email, contacts & calendar, now there's only a button to launch contacts from within email. The only solution I've found is to search for Evolution Contacts within Applications, and then I can see no way to pin it to the launcher.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHave just installed Kubuntu 10.10 Maverick 64-bit - works fine. Using xul-ext-lightning (lightning 1.0b2) with a symlink for local.sqlite to the same on the Windows 7 64-bit partition, I can have the same calender on both partitions.
I also have a Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid LTS 32-bit partition and I would like to do the same, but cannot do it. When trying to install lightning 1.0b2 I get the message "not compatible with Thunderbird 3.0.10". So I disable the compatibilityCheck and it installs okay. But the calendar does not show any data with the symlink. Why is that? Different sqlite versions?? Or is it so that the 64-bit data cannot be read by a 32-bit program??
So I try older versions of lightning.xpi - no luck. After some additional googling I try installing Thunderbird 3.1.6 32-bit using Ubuntuzilla. Compatibility OK with 1.0b2 but still no calendar data using the symlink.
The only reason I keep a dual-boot on my computer is because I need the calendar in Outlook. Is there a outlook-style calendar I can use in Ubuntu 10.04? Here is the catch, it MUST be able to sync with my Google calendar. Because I use an android phone that syncs with Google. I would love to totally leave windoze behind me.Maybe I can use Wine to install the entire 2007 MS office suite into Linux?

Does anybody know how to tackle this one? For those who have not got 11.04 yet: right click on the panel does not give you a choice of applets in 11.04 as it was in 10.10.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a calendar/PIM that can run alone, let me create events/reminders, and maybe send emails out for chosen events. It doesn't need to remain on the desktop, but that would be ok. I looked at Lightning but I'm not always running T-bird. I liked Rainlendar but it won't send emails out.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop PC running Evolution. I would like to be able to access the Calendar on my laptop running Xubuntu 9.10, also using Evolution. Can I specify to store the Ubuntu Evolution Calendar in a shared folder & access that from Xubuntu Evolution? In that case, how do I specify the calendar file locations for each installation? Is there a better way of achieving a calendar shared between the two machines?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem with the panel on the top of the screen in Ubuntu 10.04. There is supposed to be an applet that shows the time, and when you click on it, it shows a calendar for the month. It has been working until recently, about a few days ago, when I clicked it and it froze. Later, it disappeared and became a small vertical black line on the panel, and all the other icons moved to the right except a few of them. How can I get the calendar applet back?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to import internet calendars to evolution or ubuntu in general?
My uni provides an ics feed url.
I know it's possible to import .ics files into evolution, but our timetables are updated daily so I would have to import a new .ics file everyday.
