View 3 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a new laptop with a Kingston 128gb SSD, which came preloaded with Windows 7. I'm looking to wipe it completely (Not quite sure how to do this, although that's not the main question of this thread) and install Ubuntu on it.
After some researching yesterday, I've learned that for an SSD to work at it's maximum potential you want to have the partition start after one complete block. (Or at least that's how I understood it)
Does Ubuntu automatically configure its partitions to do this upon install?
using the amsmath package with texlive on lucid lynx, a simple
egin{align}
x &= 1
end{align}
gives the following error:
! Missing # inserted in alignment preamble.
<to be read again>
crcr
l.424 end{align}
the same .tex file works fine on other another (unix) machine with pdfeTeX. I had no problems like this with a previous computer running Hardy Heron.
In GUI style editors, you can generally select multiple lines, press tab a few times to move all the lines across (or shift-tab to go back). I have no idea how to do this in VIM.I googled around and couldn't find any straight answer to I came here.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make buttons for a webpage - each button has a "graphic" part - say an oval with a drop shadow, and text on top of that, such as "About Us", "Contact Us" etc. I'd like the text to line up horizontally against one another, so that if the buttons are placed next to one another in a straight line across the page, the texts line up with one another. How do I do this in GIMP?Common sense suggests that the "Align" tool should be what I should be using, but how do I use it?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor the GParted partitioning options, when creating or changing a partition on a SATA hard drive, which option is best to use; (align to cylinder, or to MiB )? The newest version of GParted I used, and it did default to "align to MiB, which then created 1 MB gaps between some partitions. Is it better to have no gaps, and is this new version safe to use to move and or resize NTFS windows partitions ? Will it include the boot sector when it moves or resizes ntfs ?

I thought I installed properly, but once again I've made a mistake. I'm trying to make use of the 114 gb I didn't assign as file system space, but I can't seem to access it or write to it. I've officially run out of space in my file system and I've got a lot to do still. Any thoughts on how to make the unused partition accessable?

If i go places > computer i do see a drive "250GB harddisk: 189gb filesystem"... I assume this is the free space mounted. However, inside that folder is "lost & found" with a x on it and i dont have permissions to write to the folder/space. I'm just looking for some advice on how i can use/access this free space. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out how to launch rc.local before services like autofs is being executed during system bootup. The reason I wanted this is because I needed for my server to pickup a DHCP address from my college's DHCP servers in order to get an IP address. Unfortunately, I couldn't get an IP address any other way and the update-rc script is really confusing to use.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dual-boot Vaio, with Windows Vista (for WOW only,I promise!) and Ubuntu 10.10. I have a HDD with 250 GB, where 170GB is for Ubuntu and around 40 GB for Windows and a Swap that is 6 GB. This Swap seems a little too big, so how o I edit its size (make it smaller like 3GB) and then add the "free space"-leftovers to the big Ubuntu partition ( / )?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi installed the new ubuntu on my system as a side by side installation, i've been using it for about 2 weeks now. ported over or found linux equivalents of any applications and games i use onto my ubuntu partition, and now i've decided i want to have ubuntu use the entire drive and just delete windows! The problem is, i'm not sure if i can do that I shrank my windows partition half a gig and booted lupu (the ubuntu partitioner wasn't even showing this half a gig of free space) to see if i could just extend my linux partition (in the case that this did work, i was just planning on deleting my windows partition and just extending my linux to the full size of my drive). I really want to avoid a full reformat of the drive because i have customized my ubuntu a decent bit and i don't want to have to redo all of that (not to mention the data, but i could always back that up on an external hdd). Here is a screenie of gparted: i don't really know too much about partitioning. so is there any way to remove windows and give linux the rest of the drive without having to completely reinstall ubuntu?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need a standalone calendar application for ubuntu lucid. I used Sunbird under karmic and LOVED it and the add-ons I could use with it (automatic export of calendars, among other things) but it's been discontinued. I don't want to use Lightning, because I want a standalone program that won't have too many dependencies. Chandler has also been discontinued, so that's not an option.
EDIT: Evolution doesn't work for me because I can't use it without an email address. Since I don't use my email through that package, that restriction makes the program useless to me.
I was able to connect my Evolution to our Exchange Server 2003.I'm able to get my mail and calendar.When I add a second email account, I can get the mail, but if I try to show the calendar for the second email account, it only duplicates the entries from the original account and doesn't show anything that is on the second account's calendar.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm helping a colleague with his laptop, he finds the fonts within programs too small and they hurt his eyes. We have tried changed the fonts using System>Appearances>Fonts. Changed the dpi resolution in the "Details" section, and tried changing the screen resolution, but this doesn't work or make it better.
I have attached a screen shot to show the problem. As I hope you can see, the font size on the desktop and top tool bar is much larger than within the programs.
Can anyone help, we have looked through all of the menus we can think of, but nothing makes the font bigger.
