I used to have a feature that when you had more than one application on screen, and clicked one behind the active app, the active one would then fold back behind the new application. Like the active app would place itself behind the new app in the same way you would bring a card forward in front of another if you were playing cards. I hope that makes sense.. Anywho, I lost that setting and can't seem to find it again. And is it possible to have a plasma screen in gnome, if so, how?

I have an external WD hard drive on which I have created several partitions to facilitate data arrangement. Whenever I plug it in, all partitions are mounted. That is okay. I want it to automount all partitions. But the annoying thing is all partitions opening and popping up and cluttering my desktop (which I, very dearly, keep very arranged and clean...)
I hate it and want to edit the settings so the folders will not automatically open and pop up into my face..

I need to take a screen capture while an application is running. The application is a touch screen calibration utility and alt-Prnt Scrn does not work when the calibration utility is active. Is there another way for me to capture the screen while the utility is active?

I have an embedded PC104 application where I am trying to get my program to start automatically at power up. The program contains a graphical user interface, using an old SVGALIB (no longer supported). It works fine if I start it after log in.But when I put the path in rc.local, it will only run if I disable all the graphical stuff. The program bunts if it looks ahead and sees the call to vga_setmode(), where I set it for 480 x 640 resolution.

Hey I'm looking for something to grab a section of the screen ... like to allow me to drag a rectangle around a portion of the screen and when I release, capture only that -- in to the clipboard would be fine or at that point to a image file format which I could save on the file system.

I'm working with some basic stack overflows. The following code compiles & runs fine in a non-ubuntu VM that's has no security features installed. On Ubuntu 10.04 it segfaults every time. I'm compiling on Ubuntu with the gcc -fno-stack-protector flag. If someone could point me to the security feature that's causing the segfaults (and how to disable it),

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 and in short, in my experience, it's terrible. All it did was bug my machine. When I enter the wrong credentials on login, it spins forever "checking" so I have to restart the computer. When I enter any credentials to unlock my computer after a lock screen (even if they are perfectly correct) it spins forever "checking." So I disabled the lock screen on sleep feature, which I hate having to do because I live on a college campus where anyone could pick up the computer and look at my notes without a password, but I have no alternative. Also the fingerprint scnaner on my lenovo worked perfectly before the upgrade and now it doesn't, it's apparent that it is very messed up, lighting up sometimes, and mostly not when it should. Additionally, I can't update my computer or download anything from the software center because it believes my root password to be incorrect. no matter what. This is the most frustrating thing I have ever encountered in day to day ubuntu use and I might just switch OS's because this is just counterproductive and a waste of time.

Does anyone know what happened to the Multiseat feature that had been in the feature list at one point? To briefly summarise, a single machine with multiple graphics cards, sound cards, keyboards & mice provides multiple seats for users. Each user gets their own monitor, keyboard, mouse & perhaps audio. The rest of the machine resources are then shared.
The last I saw on the topic was this discussion, although I have a recollection that there was going to be support in a newer version of X.Org. I've googled around quite a bit, but can't seem to find anything.
Anybody know anything? It would be a great feature to have and it's frustrating to have had such an omission since F8 :-o

Second off, I'm trying to capture a user password on login (through gdm) such that I can re-use it for a service like Kerberos or AFS. The idea is that the user has to log in only once, and then I renew the tickets and tokens until they log out again. If there's a better way to do this

I'm trying to figure out how it's possible to fix so that scrolling of text works.
Example:
I ssh somewhere if I work here ls or more huge text file then I can easy have x=100 or even 1000 lines. it's possible to scroll up and down in the window to se text etc. Then I start screen cmd... then I only have that amount of screen hight and width of the original screen visible from the first window when I started the screen function. How do one configure so that it is possible to scroll indefinite if I for instance do a more command on a text file with some 1000 lines?

When connecting to an unknown unsecured wireless network, is it possible for someone to capture a header and resend it even if it's over https? For example I login on an ipod or on a computer and connect to a server through https and password auth. Although anyone monitoring the transmission could not get hold of my password since it's encrypted, could they just capture the header and resend it 5mins later to logon again without even knowing the password?

Also, If there is a step by step overall troubleshooting guide,I would appreciate its location. This did not freeze under 10.10, but I have changed wifi card (changed driver) and loaded VirtualBox from oracle (not Ubuntu - VB not running during freeze)) - no other changes.

currently I'm fiddling around with mod_security for apache2 configurations on CentOS boxes, right now in a test environment first (i.e. separate non production box).CentOS includes the mod_security "Core Rule Set" by Breach Security Inc, the devs behind that module. So far all's running mostly, logs/auditlogs etc.For simple testing, I made a small php form as following:
Code:

I'm having problems with the screen capture utility in Fedora 11. Everytime i capture a screenshot, it looks like this:[url]
I've tried turning off Compiz, but that doesn't do anything. I suspect it may have something to do with the kms (I have an Intel 82855/855GM, which has had issues in beta).

On my Windoze machine, I use Replay Media Catcher 4 which runs silently in the background and captures any videos (FLV, AVI, MPG, WMV, etc) on any websites that I happen to go to, and saves them to a folder on my hard drive. Right now, if I want to save a video that I'm wathing from Ubuntu, I have to go to /temp, guess which file it is, and copy it after it downloads fully but before it finishes playing, otherwise Firefox deletes it from /temp right away. This is a pain.
Yes, there are screen motion capture utilities in the Ubuntu Software Center, but they're just screen scrapers that result in low quality copies without any audio. I want something that will actually capture the video stream and save it as a file. Even if it doesn't save all videos automatically like RMC4, and I have to right click on the video to Save As, that would be better than copying it from /temp at the precise exact moment.

My screen capture software, shutter and system's default "take screenshot", do not function normal any more. It can only capture the desktop wallpaper, not any other elements on the desktop, nor any other opened windows. It's just like taking an x-ray picture by passing all the other objects/elements/running programs on top of the desktop wallpaper. Any ideas? I am using Fedora 14 64 bit. The screen capture software were working fine, though.
