View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.10 dual booting with Windows7.My ext3 /home is mounted as F: in windows.I share a firefox profile between them so that when i am in Windows my firefox uses the same profile as it does when in Ubuntu.It all worked great until recently. I am unable to save files by right clicking and save as. In the config i am unable to set a directory to save to. It neer asks me where to save to. Just nothing happens. some off my book marks are all messed up as well, my rss feeds have the same post on some random website every time i log on and i have to manually refresh to get the correct feeds back. I am unable to delete the random bookmark.

now i can select and use the new resolution - until next reboot. after an reboot 1280x720 is again not available. even if i work with sudo - the resolution isnt there....
Config a CentOS iptables.I issued some iptables rules.the rules were effective at once.Then, I came with a "iptables-save", but the "/etc/sysconfig/iptables" file hasn't been updated, it still loads the defaults rules with CentOS after reboot.

Looks like a program to view ACPI data.
FWIW, ACPI was not installed by default and is not an "officially approved" program; has no Ubuntu Logo next to it in Synaptic.
Also, I have CONKY installed, so I have CPU and GPU data on a window, but I would like to see those on a Top or Bottom Panel.
I'm working on a Soekris net4801 that is running an unknown distro of Linux. The kernel is 2.4.29, and iptables is v1.3.4.
I can't work out how to save the iptables. I searched the whole system for files/folders containing the name "iptables" and got 3 results:
/user/local/lib/iptables
/sbin/iptables
/lib/iptables
I've tried iptables save, iptables-save and iptables save active.
"iptables save" and "iptables save active" give me an invalid argument error. "iptables-save" isn't a valid command. "iptables --help" gives me a list of valid switches, none of which have to do with saving.
how I can save the iptables?

i am trying to download my video drivers and its been about 20 minutes and am only half way. also downloading from software center is VERY slow. Anyone know of a fix or is it just because its new?
View 3 Replies View RelatedWell Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition looks great and I am way over the plain old xp, plus Ubuntu is safer and sexier. I have downloaded 10.10 desktop and it saves as a .iso, then when I open it it runs my cd burner. I have it saved on a CD and my portable hard drive. I can not run the .iso or use the wubi. I have extracted the .iso and tried running the usb creator program but it does not work. Does anyone have a solution other than buying the ubuntu cd?

I log into the web version of either pop server and there are hundreds of messages. I have so far deleted both po account settings and put them back, tried both ssl and not ssl, unchecked leave messages on server, removed and reinstalled thunderbird.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI produce a lot of work under Drupal, Wordpress and Moin. Previously I have always downloaded the software packages for these from the developers website and installed it manually. When I install it manually it is fairly easy to see where files and directories have been created and I just get on with the projects.I've just noticed that the above three packages are available in the repositories. Is it better to install from the repositories or manually with this kind of software?
The reason I ask is because a software package like Gimp just appears in my start menu so I naturally would download it from the repo. But if I download something like Wordpress I can see it is installed through synaptic but does it actually produce any new directories or files in somewhere like /var/www? I'm not sure how I would access the software once it is installed. The W3 Validator for instance, I downloaded in 8.10 but although it was showing installed there was no obvious way to access it.
Not sure where to ask but can we get teamspeak 3 in the repo ? Version 2 is not used anymore and the people over at [URL].. said it was ok to add it to our repo as long as we do not modify it.

Is this in a PPA yet? I see a tarball on the Mozilla site but hate tarball installs if I can do it through a package. I just ran the Update Manager and the Firefox (Namoroka) link in my menu is 3.6.x.
I'm running Minefield right now from the bleeding-edge repos and would prefer to switch to FF4 stable... is there an (easy) way to do that and keep my settings and add-ons?
I would like to add more apt repos to my software sources. The system I want to do this on is Backtrack 4, but I also am running ubuntu on another system as well, 10.04. I have the standard ones already, as well as the google repo.

I've figured most issues I've had via Google I guess about a week ago, everything I download whether it be from Firefox Or Transmissions won't show up on the desktop screen. When I few the folder in Nautilus, same thing. I can see the files with the 'dir' terminal command. I did try using 'sudo' to lauch Nautilus and was able to see my files. If I drag them out of the Nautilus window and on to my desktop, they appear. Keep in mind, I know the files are in MY directory and are owned by me. Any clue to what is causing this and how to fix it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am running a dual boot with Ubuntu 10.04 and vista. Anyway both systems are very healthy as far as I can see. I have a very fast internet connection at 50Mbs. Under vista I can pull around 4 - 5MBs where under Ubuntu I can only get about 350KBs. I have a single PC hard wired into a Netgear WNR3500 router/firewall. Anyway, I was wondering if there is anything I can do with my packet sizes or receive windows to help it along? I am only using a very small part of my available bandwidth obviously. However, none of the calendar functions are working, calendar itself opens, but no grid lines are displayed. When I click on an invitation for an event, nothing is shown as body, no options to accept or decline, and the message is not marked as read. How can I workaround it? I tried mozilla daily ppa but no luck, erased .thunderbird profile, no luck. What else can I try?
I wanted to install opera browser (not that I like it) in my new lucid (updated from karmic) but the package is not in the repos. I also need libmysqlclient15off as a dependency for mysql-workbench but is also missing from lucid repos.
However, they are in the karmic repos. So, what should I do? I could download de debs and install them but my question is whether they should be available in lucid repos and if the'll be.
Some of the programs that I can install from the repos are outdated. Particularly, Amarok. In the repos 2.3.0 is available and I need 2.3.1 to fix a bug that's occurring on my system. How do accomplish this without having duplicates on the system along with any such error that might complicate the functioning of Amarok.

But when i try to install the bonus package it writes : "Sorry, 'bleachbit-bonus' is not available for this type of computer (i386)." But i can install the bonus package properly (and it works) by downloading from official web site of Bleachbit. But now i have to install manually when updating the bleachbit-bonus, also i am not sure if it is stable my system because of this error which i get from "software center" of Ubuntu 10.04 (which is full updated).

I am going from 10.04 to 10.10 and have changed all instances of lucid to maverick within the sources.list file but now I don't want to continue until I can be safe to upgrade by disabling the third-party repos. How can I disable these using the command line? Should I just move the sources.list.d folder? Any other ways I'm missing?
