View 3 RepliesI was able to convert a Real Estate Firm from using Microsoft OSS to OpenSuse 11.2.The Real estate agents in the firm are pleased and some are not but it's the cost of doing business and saving money.I am at a cross road or should I say I have come to a bump in the road. Most of the agents create their flyers and signs in Microsoft Publisher, I tried Open Office 3.X and I'm unable to open or edit the files in question.Do have any suggestions or could you point me in the direction of a solid solution that will help me either convert the files or a program that can be used with-in OpenSuse 11.2 that can edit the files

I am looking for a very particular sound wave simulation program. To get an understanding of what i want let me describe it to you in a different way.
Imagine your look at a bowl of water from above and you poke the water at a specific frequency you will see wave patterns showing. Well im after a program that can generate that pattern with any particular frequency that i set, and to allow me to place different shapes and objects around the sound source or sources (i may want to use more than one sound source that may or may not be at the same frequency as first.) and see what kind of reflections i get.
I was also wondering if instead of a point sound source you could have an entire shape giving off a specific vibration. This will give very interesting results that i am also after.
There are some programs that show sound simulations that i have described but nothing that can do the requirements that i desire. Do any of you guys know of any programs that can do this? if not how much would it cost to build such a program?
I just need to view the documents, editing is no required. A OneNote (*.one) to *.pdf converter will do just fine, but I couldn't find one. Why do I need to open MS OneNote files? A friend is taking notes in class with a touchscreen laptop (Windows 7, MS Office 2007) and I can't really complain about his choice of software when he's being nice and sharing his notes.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have followed this guide to setup automatic screen rotation on a fresh installation of Maverick on a Lenovo X200t. This involves creating the file:
Code:
$cat /etc/acpi/events/x200t-swivel-down
# /etc/acpi/events/x200t-swivel-down
# called when tablet head swivels down
event=ibm/hotkey HKEY 00000080 00005009
action=/etc/acpi/x200t-swivel-down.sh
and the script
Code:
$cat /etc/acpi/x200t-swivel-down.sh
#!/bin/sh
/usr/bin/xrandr -o inverted
touch /home/nikos/Desktop/swivel-down
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet stylus" Rotate half
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet touch" Rotate half
xsetwacom set "Serial Wacom Tablet eraser" Rotate half
(similar for swivel-up)
What I find strange:
- calling the script with ./x200t-swivel-down.sh works (both with and without sudo).
- rotating the screen to tablet mode only executes the touch commands (which I entered for debugging)
Obviously, the acpi event is registered correctly and reacted upon. Just why are the xrandr and xsetwacom commands ignored?
I would especially appreciate notes import from OneNote, some notes sync option and gtk base.
Or maybe it is not an overkill to run OneNote on Wine?
I've recently noticed that whenever I log in via fingerprint reader (AES2501), my system behaves strangely.
For example, the Gnome panels take almost a full minute to appear after everything else has been loaded, and there's no NetworkManager icon in the panel - even though nm-applet (and thus NetworkManager) is running as shown by top; that can be (partially) solved by killing NetworkManager, restarting dbus, and then manually running NetworkManager.
None of that happens when logging in using a password.
Short of not using my fingerprint reader, what can I do?
I have the following bash script...
Code:
#!/bin/bash
#Set filename for links
FILE=/home/andrew/scripts/links.txt
#pkill chrome
pkill firefox
[Code]...
When run it compares the public ip address against a file (ipAddress.txt) to basically determine if I am on my VPN or not. If I am not, i.e. it finds my public ip in the ipAddress.txt file it is supposed to exit otherwise it launches firefox with the given URL.
I have tested this by running from cmd line and running from the crontab. Running from the cmd line I can start the script, let it launch the first URL, then i disconnect from the VPN and the next time it goes through the loop it detects that my VPN has disconnected and kills the script. However, from the cron job if I have disconnected from the vpn I have found that it even though it finds my public ip address within the ipAddress.txt file it still marches right through to the next step in the script and launces the browser and will do this over and over.
I am making a backup on an ntfs disk, mounted with:
using the following command:
Running this (or rather the shell script containing it) from the command line is OK, but if I run it as a cron job, I get thousands of messages:
(without line breaks, actually).
These files are all ordinary files made under Windows; the above should read "officile stukken", and from the command line it does, but not in cron.
I guess I need to set an environment variable, but which one?
I have a file with two fields of numbers that I want to use as input for another program.
Code:
The above code does not work, as I think it would take the whole first and second fields as the input for one particular instance of the program 'inputbashangle'. What I want is to get the first two numbers from the first line of the file 'outfailtest', execute 'inputbashangle' with them, then move on to the first two numbers of the second line for all the lines of 'outfailtest'.
I asked in Absolute Beginners forum, and so far it seems, there actually is no easy way to run a .bin program in the gui without using the terminal and typing.
[URL]
This seems like a major design flaw if true. What gives?
I have no clue what forum section this would go under. I'm looking for a renderer that will allow me to create a 3D room. I don't want a CAD program. I want a program that will allow me at some point to render the project, then using my mouse or arrow keys, "walk" through the room seeing such details as patterned walls, carpeting and any ambient sounds that it will allow me to put in.

Code:
michael@michael-laptop:~$ sudo make install

One of the things that I did along the way was uninstall one program (wicd) and reinstall another (network manager). Afterwards, things worked ok. Yesterday for some reason I don't understand, the error message I originally got with Wicd installed is back. I looked in the software center and it says it's not installed. I looked in synaptic package manager and It doesn't seem to be there. I tried the command (I learned it the other day- I really know VERY little commands) sudo apt-get --purge remove wicd. It says it's not installed. But it still comes up on every boot saying that it's looking for my wireless card and then complains about a d-bus error. I don't seem to have this program anywhere that I can remove it!
