I am helping someone print wedding invitations from out Ubuntu machine, and I am wondering, how do I choose the perfect size paper, which is 5.25 inches by 8.25 inches, in the printing properties menu?

I'm trying to print a spreadsheet from Openoffice 3.0.1 (Xubuntu 9.04), I'd like to use the A3 pagesize but the Print dialog shows only A4 and Letter.. Other applications work fine.
The printer is a Ricoh Aficio MPC2000.
We developed qt based application in linux. I wish to stop ejecting the paper after printing over.How to do it.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.
I have a CUPS server with several end users. The problem is that the printer stops printing if someone trys to print in letter size. (You have to insert letter paper or abort the print job on the printer.)

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using the Gnome desktop in Lenny 5.03The default Gedit paper size is "US Letter", which is almost right for my HP Laserjet 4L, except that about .5 inch at the top and .25 inch at the left margin are cut off.I have defined a "Custom Size" under File -> Page Setup -> Manage Custom Sizes... with margin settings that solve the problem, but this "Custom Size" only remains the default Paper Size for printing until Gedit is closed.Using what appears to be the same gnome dialog from epiphany and evolution, the Papersize settings stick, but not from Gedit. I cannot locate any configuration file to edit, and nothing in the gconf editor seems to apply.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have set everything in my printer settings to "US Letter" both via system-config-printer, and in the localization settings for KDE "System Settings". However everytime I attempt to print the printer will say that it's A4 and asks to load paper. I have searched everywhere for this default and I cannot find it in KDE. While in Gnome, all works as expected with printing (even when printing from KDE applications). Does anyone know how to change the default from A4 to US Letter?
View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded WUBI and latest version of Ubuntu. When I try to run WUBI with ISO then it does'nt picks it up and tries to get Ubuntu through internet.
If i turn off the internet then it gives an error and exits.
I installed virtualbox xp, but now its installed, (i installed from my dvd drive!) it isnt picking up my dvd drive..SO.I thought if i added some 'shared folders', I could transfer the folders i needed from my virtual xp convertxtodvd instalation, then drag them into my proper unbuntu desktop, and then burn the files that way,.....Fat chance..Of course, I should realise by now that most things ubuntu does is not easy.I mean, this is absolute gibberish to me?Please tell my why i have to keep typing in code to use ubuntu!its not 1980!!Quote:really dont understand this..Or i may just have to switch back to xp.., i mean, im having to use an xp emulator anyway, lol.. whats the point in staying.

I installed WICD because I was looking around the internet and the Ubuntu forums said that it was the best fix for the Network Manager not working. I added the source and installed the package like the Ubuntu site said. I go to Applications => Internet => Wicd Network Manager. It says no wireless networks found. I know that the router is working because my sister is right here next to me playing Maplestory on her laptop! When I do the lshw -C network function in the terminal it is only bringing up two things: the network controller and the ethernet controller. I used Yahoo Answers as my first goto and the answers there said that Linux doesn't have the drivers for the router. I have a Netgear Wireless-N 300 Router WNR2000 and a Dell Inspiron 1750, if that helps. Can someone give me a link to the drivers or tell me in detail what to do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been having issues with mythbuntu since the last few upgrades, so I decided to go for a fresh install. Since I had a free partition (from a deleted Windows install that I moved to a dedicated box), I decided to leave the old root partition as a backup and reinstall to the new partition.If it works, I may use dd in the future to clone the partition as an easy backup solution before upgrades.
The install went fine but now GRUB2 detects both the old (now non-functional) install, as well as the new functional install.More annoyingly than that, it shows the defunct install first in the list, with the correct install at the end. Even odder, the correct install is auto-named with the partition name (sda5) of the old install, even though it's the one booting to the new partition (sda3).How can I get Grub2 to ignore the old install (or to be precise, NOT auto-detect other OS)? Or at least show the functional install first.

View 9 Replies View RelatedThe "[SOLVED]" attribute to the How to set defaulter size in RHEL5 thread notwithstanding, the problem really is not solved. I've set my default language to both "C" and to "EN-us" and the problem is that absolutely every single time I print, I have to meander through varying layout print menus to find the "A4" setting and change it to "letter". That, or sacrifice the last two lines on every page because the default size is larger than the actual size. Bad default. It is not unique to Red Hat/CentOS, of course. Same problem exists on Debian and SuSE, too. Why is this such an intractable issue? Why is there not some simple and obvious way to say, "squish all instances of A4 (or "letter") and replace with "letter" (or "A4")!"?

I had to wait months before the kernel supported the on board audio chipset. That is exactly the situation I'm trying to avoid this time around.
I have some specific questions about "server motherboards" actually. I looked at a few models of server motherboards by intel, and some random models on newegg. I wasn't able to see much of a difference from regular desktop motherboard other than most had two sockets, and support for much more ram. These boards seem more popular with Linux users. Why?
AMD and Intel both have server CPUs as well. Some question, what's the difference?
To make this question more concrete, I was looking at this this motherboard. The main questions about it that I can't answer are:
Can I get a motherboard without on board raid and audio? I wanted to get a hardware raid controller and a PCI audio card. I thought a server motherboard would be cheaper and not have these "extras", since who wants an audio card on a server?
Where can I found out about Linux support for the components on this board? "Intel ICH10R", "Realtek ALC889", "Marvell 88E8056"
I'm buying this computer to work as a Linux desktop for a lot of compiling, coding and audio/video work, but I don't want to rule out the possibility of installing windows and playing some games at one point. (even if the last game I got has been sitting in its box unopened for almost a year). Is it a good idea to buy a "server motherboard" and play games on it, or are desktop boards better value for this?
The ultimate solution for me would be a motherboard that had GPL divers for onboard LAN, a single CPU socket, lots of PCI express and PCI. USB 3.0, and no fancy hard disk controllers since I'll be getting a separate one.
I installed 13.1 on my machine, and now find that Konqueror won't pick up the flash plugin, no matter where I put it. It finds the libnpjp2.so and skypebuttons.so plugins, but not the flash one. Am I missing something, or is it a KDE4 quirk?

I see references to this issue on various websites and I saw at least one reference to new drivers but alas they were all for windows. I checked the repository and I have the latest and greatest HPLIP. Does this mean I have all of the latest drivers?
