View 3 Replies View Relatedslightly embaressing but luckily I had firefox open at the time. I have managed to delete my panel at the bottom of my screen and I'm totally stumped as to how to get it back.I'm pretty new to linux, having dabbled with it in the past.. finding it much better than said mainstream OS *Ahem* .The reason I deleted it by accident was I right clicked on it and deleted panel thinking I'd just added another panel to it. D'oh. My firefox isn't touching the top of the screen either, I think I created a panel up there but I can't see it or anything
View 1 Replies View Relatedi have noticed that if vista is not the active partition, hybernate does not work. it just goes black and then back to the user icon screen to log back in. another "slight" problem was that i was not able to apply a service pack. after restoring vistas dominance i was able to install the pack. is there any other work arounds for hybernate? even though you might not be interested in cleaning up after microsoft.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo about an hour ago I put my computer on standby. For whatever reason I couldn't bring it back so I restarted it. It works fine except now Ubuntu has pushed my display down. This means that the bottom of my tool-bar on the bottom of the screen is cut off, and there's a black bar on the top. I'm using a T.V. screen so there is no way I can manually adjust it. I also plugged my desktop back into an old monitor and it was off-center downward too.

View 9 Replies View RelatedPressing left, middle and right button of mouse at bottom and right edges or bottom left, top right and bottom right corners of the screen does not work with fittstool-2.0 on openbox in debian jessie with dual monitor.
Pressing left, middle and right button of mouse at top and left edges and top-left corner on the screen works correctly.
I use openbox on debian jessie. I do not install any desktop environment explicitly.
In the jessie, I installed gcc, make, libglib2.0-0, pkg-config, libcairo2-dev and libxcb1-dev.
I downloaded [URL] .... and confirmed that the sha1sum value of the downloaded file matches sha1sum value given at [URL] ....
I expanded the downloaded file by
Code: Select alltar -xvf fittstool-2.0.tar.gz
into fittstool-2.0 directory.
I executed with an ordinary (non-root) user:
Code: Select allcd fittstool-2.0
make
I executed with root privilege on the fittstool-2.0 directory
Code: Select allmake install
I executed the following with the ordinary user:
Code: Select allfittstool
and ~/.config/fittstool/fittstoolrc was generated.
I modified it as
Code: Select all[TopLeft]
LeftButton=gnome-terminal
MiddleButton=pcmanfm
RightButton=iceweasel
[Code] ....

One of the major problems I've had after a clean install of Natty is losing my middle touchpad button (just a button, not a scroll, old school T500).
When I plug in a mouse, the middle button on the mouse works fine (firefox links, pasting text, compiz rotation, etc).
I imagine it's something that goes into xorg.conf, no? Either way
I tried to update firefox using yast, and now Firefox will not launch. I have downloaded 3.6 and I can run it from within its directory, but I would like to get back to all of the nice desktop integration and Im not sure exactly what I did wrong in the 1st place..Reinstallation in Yast does NOT fix the issue and I have had the same issue with a few other packages.. View 1 Replies View RelatedIs this a beta version or something? I installed this version because it came as a live cd coupled with emc2 for cnc machining. I cannot get anything to work correctly. I tried to install Mozilla thunderbird using the application manager and it is very slow. It takes forever for the menus to open. or emails and is virtually unusable. I tried to use the startup manager and it killed my grub bootloader so I needed to reinstall. I couldnt successfully use the grub2 console prompt to log back into linux even though I ollwed several tutorials for this. I tried to install the flash player plugin and it kept telling me still to install it before I could watch flash videos even though I had installed it 3 or 4 times. I just tried to install evolution mail and it cannot log into my gmail account. I tried to install swift dove which is a faster version of thunderbird and it says it is starting but then never does. I am reasonably sure I should hang in there as I have heard Ubuntu is very good as an os.

I managed to delete the Volume Applet that appears by default on the task bar. I'm sure it used to be listed in 'Add to Panel' in other version of Ubuntu however I can't see it there in 10.04.
Can someone explain to me how I get it back?
it was possible to back up time machine back ups from a mac in ubuntu.
I use a mac at work and use time machine to back up to an external hard drive which i take home each day. I wish to back up the time machine back ups off the external hard drive each day to my computer at home just to be safe is this possible?
I have managed to open the hard drive and have enabled view hidden files so i can see all the files but i am unable to copy them due to permission errors
I have seen several screen shots of Linux and Ubuntu with the bar on the bottom like Mac OS-X. I would like to have this, but still be able to customize the rest of the theme. Is there somewhere you can download this, or what?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been running Xubuntu for the past month or two on my Acer Aspire One netbook with very few problems, and generally I've been happy. But this morning, I went to boot up my netbook to check my email and when it booted, I got to my desktop, but the bars at the top and bottom of the desktop are missing. I thought at first that it was hanging during the loading of Xubuntu and that there was a serious problem at hand that might've demanded a reinstall of Xubuntu, but upon further study once I got back to my campus, I discovered that the bars have simply disappeared and that everything else runs fine. When I try to click "Panel" in "Settings", which I'm assuming is where I'd adjust settings for said bars, nothing comes up.
As I think about it, it doesn't seem like a major problem, considering everything else still seems to function fine, but I would like to have them back again.
Just installed Ubuntu.I right-clicked the bar on the bottom right where the 4 screens were and picked properties, it gave me an error and now there is nothing on the bar but the trash can. No programs and no multiple screens.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've only been using Ubuntu for a few months, a good friend turned me on to it and I definitely like it better than any version of Windows out there, but I'm definitely still learning about it.
I may have clicked on something, but my bottom tool bar totally disappeared and I'm not sure how to get it back. Before it disappeared, none of the windows I had opened were showing up on it either.
To reiterate, I'm not sure what I clicked on to make it disappear, for the most part it just did... :-/
I was using the 9.10 distro and just upgraded to the 10.04 distro. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it either.
Using UNR10.04 and have an issue where menu screens are hanging off the bottom of the screen. Happens pretty regularly, but for example, a moment ago, I was trying to switch to Google Public DNS, in the network preferences, have to click apply/ok but cannot do so as the menu box is larger than the screen. Is there a way to scroll down or make the window smaller so that I can click buttons outside standard screen.
