i have a samsung sgh-j700 mobile phone and want to move music and photos from phone to computer and vice versa. im using ubuntu 10.10 ( i think? got free with ubuntu user)
is there any way to get this phone to be able to work on ubuntu?
I want to move 1.2GB of photos onto a 2GB thumb drive, calling up Properties, it says the size on disk is 9.7GB. What is going on? I don't recall discrepencies this huge in previous OS's. What is taking up 7 times more space than my actual files?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm relatively new to Ubuntu and am just trying to get basic functionality without having to punt back to Windows applications on Wine (such as Irfanview).All I want to do is step through photos (by pressing a key, such as the space bar) to view & then press a keyclick to move the good ones to a separate folder.
This is so fundamental that I must assume there must be software in Ubuntu which can accomplish those two simple tasks (step through a folder and move a file to another folder). Yet, I have The Gimp, GNU Paint, Krita, KSnapshot, XFig, XPaint, etc., and none of them appear to have this basic functionality (which Irfanview has, but on Windows).
What program can view and easily MOVE the photo to a stated directory in a single keystroke? Note: All the programs can "open a file" and "save as" but this is NOT the desired fundamental operation. The fundamental operation is:
- Press a key (spacebar would be nice) to scroll to the next photo in a folder.
- Press another key combination ("control + m" would be nice) to move the photo to a stated folder
- The "index" should NOT be reset (that is, the next spacebar should show the next photograph in the folder, not jump back, perhaps hundreds of photos, to the first photo as The Gimp does, for example, after a save).
- It's ok to set the move-to folder the first time, but it should not ask each and every time which folder as it should be the default for the move command after the first move.
Note: I also tried making the icons in the Nautilus browser huge and then control-click selecting the good ones, but that makes ALL icons at all times huge, and the scroll in Nautilus is atrocious, so, in effect, that was a failure. I need a graphic program that performs this simple task. This is so fundamental of a need (to scroll through and move just the good photos to a stated folder) that I find it hard to believe I can't (yet) find a graphics display program capable of scrolling and moving photos.
This is the equivilent of a DJ going into the"dusty records bin"to play an old song.I've got a hard drive that's left over from a Mandriva Spring 2008 computer and I need to copy the photos off it to a DVD and move them to a computer running Ubuntu.I can't seem to get the Ubuntu computer to access what's on the Mandriva drive, so I've loaded Mandriva Spring 2008 on another computer.
I've accessed the photos I need easily enough, but can't copy them to a storage medium so I can move them to the other computer. I've tried two USB devices, an external DVD drive and a flash drive and can't just copy (or drag 'n drop) the files to the other devices.This evening I may try a portable hard drive, again with a USB connection, and see if that works.
If there's a fool-proof way to do this by using a terminal, I'll try that. I haven't been able to devote enough time to Linux to familiarize myself with terminal commands. Or, if there's a program that will run under Mandriva Spring 2008 that will let me accomplish the transfer, I'll try that as well.
Most cellphones can play music. How does one sync Ubuntu One w. the music player in the cellphone. Alternatively how to download music from Ubuntu One to a cellphone? Access to the web/internet is assumed in this case.

That part is done. The part I can't make work is the Andromote App on my phone controlling when the netbook plays, pause, next, prev, & volume.
What I am using: I am running Ubuntu 9.04 both on my server as well as my netbook (netbook has the netbook interface) I am running a rooted version of Android 1.6. The programs I am trying to use are Rythmbox on my netbook and Andromote on my G1.
1. How can I stream music from my ubuntu computer (9.10) to my windows computer using vlc?
2. What nvidia driver should I use? The one found in "hardware drivers" is 185 but nvidia's site has 190! which one should I use?
I have a samsung vibrant. I can play my music files over one of my work computers via blue tooth. but have been able to do the same with my home ubuntu 10.04 computer. oddly enough.I can connect to the phone and see all the folders on the phone but I cant see any files.also, I can download files to the phone but not up from the phone. am i missing something that enables playback over blue tooth? or is it simply something that windows has zeroed in on that linux hasn't as of yet?

So the idea here is, I have connected it up in every possible way to my laptop through bluetooth. I have found a way to stream music playing on the phone through my laptop speakers. What I want to be able to do is to be able to stream music playing on my laptop (all sounds through the soundcard) via bluetooth (perhaps?) from my mobile phone speakers..
I have ubuntu server installed on a pc. The motherboard died, so I switched the HD to another computer. Everything is fine except the network. I cannot access this computer from other computer (while it was possible before). I looked at the interfaces and everything seems fine. The nic itselft seems to work too.

Finally, disable and re-enable ufw to apply the changes:
sudo ufw disable && sudo ufw enable
I get the error:
ERROR: problem running ufw-init

How do I get Bitpim to work on my lg vu cu920 phone on Ubuntu 10.04? I have the data cable. I seen serval peoples said they got it to work but they never said how. I set the phone to the lg-vx8700. Sometime I get ports that will be open and then not. It doesn't mount under the mass storage. Would be awesome if someone on here could explain how they did it. Believe me I looked all over google and the forums and they all talk about they got it to work but no further details. Can't really bring up really old threads on here.

I have a parent directory called "Music." The subdirectories all start with "artist", some go further as in "artist/album/cd1". So right now the structure varies in the following ways code...

I can view the files in there, but not edit them or make any modifications. During the time I used Ubuntu, it worked pretty well, any ideas why it doesn't work.I use Fedora 11 KDE in case you wanted to help me solve this problem. Due to the lack of root capabilities the only way to tether my phone is through PDANet for Android. Unfortunately there is no Linux version of PDANet, so the only computer I can tether my phone with is my laptop which is running Vista.
I also have a desktop running Koala, which is ultimately the computer I want to get connected. I then can place a Internet based call (SIP software, Skype, Google Talk) via the cell phone, which has been connected to the desktop system by Bluetooth.
I want to be able to receive and send calls via the cellphone, but use Internet for my calls. What got me thinking about this is a house phone I have by Panasonic, which has the capability to pair your cell phone via Bluetooth to the main base-station. This allows the option to answer calls to my house number, via my cell phone.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi have a car stereo that reads a USB drive with all my music on it, however to sort through the music it uses a method of finding folders containing music, then displaying them all in a list. i find this interface annoying because in order to sort the music by artist i have to go and manually move it out of the album folders by hand, this takes a long time for 11+ GB of music so i was trying to use the linux CLI to quicken the process. use a command like this

but for some reason this moves all my music into the last folder alphabetically in my drive, the music is all pre-arranged like this /media/usb/music/artist/album/song
