View 2 RepliesWhenever I log in, restart, etc... There are no panels shown, I have to alt+F2, open terminal and run killall gnome-panels in order to have panels shown again. Is there a way to fix this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've basically gone and messed up my entire desktop. The curious (idiotic) me was experimenting with the desktop, and went and somehow deleted all the panels. After 3 days of frustration, I've been unable to recover any form of menu or panel. So far, I've tried restoring the defaults from the terminal. Unfortunately, I can't open a terminal window. I can run it using Ctrl+Alt+F2, but it refuses to open any windows or run any programs. Most commands give me some form of 'cannot open display.' I can't minimize windows without losing them so my workspace is a mess, I can't run nautilus as root so I can't access Synaptic, and the list basically goes on and on.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI find that I prefer have both panels located at the screen top. That way I don't have to go to the bottom of the screen for one thing, then back to the top for another. I arranged the panel so the regular top one is on top, then the panel that contains the open applications is underneath. The problem is, when I reboot, the panels lose their order. First, the regular top panel initializes, then the bottom ones starts and pushes the first panel down, which becomes what you see in the picture: I would like to find a way to keep them in the opposite order of what you see in the picture, but every time I reboot they end up in that order.

Sometimes, power point presentations will crash the program and then I can't open any open office programs without rebooting the computer. The problem seems to be just with powerpoint files and I'm not sure what the issue could be.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there any program in Ubuntu that can open .docx files natively? I know that open office can open .doc files, but I need a program that can open .docx files. It also has to be able to read the embedded data, such as text themes and bibliography data. Conversion is no good. I have been using Office 2007 through Crossover, but for some reason it can only have one window open at a time, which severely limits what I can do.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI work for a food manufacturing company in Sheffield and we have a machine called a duck injector which operates off a Human Machine Interface Touch Screen. The program inside this has been written and runs using Linux. This is stored on a Compact Flash Card.
This screen has been damaged and isn't made anymore so we've been sent a new screen which is a 12'1" Intel Atom N270 HMI.
I simply tried to put the Flash Card in the port and powered it up (booting from a removable source) and i get the following:
I've had absolutely zero experience with Linux so i'm completely stuck as to what to do to get it to work.
I've got a flash card with XP on it so i can boot up in that but then it won't read the flash card with the program on because it's in Linux (presumably?)
I've also tried downloading Mubuntu 10.10 and booted it up using that on a flashdrive - this allows me to read the flash card with the program but i can't get it to boot up/run.
My midterm instructions are in mth format. I wouldn't even know what program to use to open in Windows. The actual midterm itself is an htm file. I need help ASAP.
