Ubuntu :: Log Into And Internet Automatically?

Jun 8, 2011

My roommates use my computer and are too stupid to remember my password so i set it to automatic log in. However, its not really an automatic log in since you have to enter the default keyring password for wifi. Is there a way to have both of them automatic? also, is a strong password really necessary? I dont really have important files and could just use 123456a or something like that instead.

Slackware :: Automatically Connecting To The Internet?

Nov 21, 2010

im kind of a novice at this type of thing, but i've gotten into it alot lately (coding that is) I was wondering how i might go about making a boot process that automatically connects to the internet. I've currently got a boot script that connects me to my home network, but will fail if I'm at work/school. so i was thinking there had to be a way to list all possible network connections, and then pick out one of them and automatically connect.Almost completely new to the world of linux.Im running slackware 13.1

I want to make a boot script that automatically identifies wireless networks in the area, and connects to one, I currently have a boot script that connects to my home network automatically but fails at work/schoool. So i figured theres got to be a way to identify networks, pluck one from the list, and use it.

Also I have installed conky but I can't figure out how to get it to start automatically when I log on? Can someone point me to the file I need to edit to make it work?

Slackware :: 3.0 - Unable To Connect To Internet Automatically

I'm running Linux 2.6.39.3, and when I upgraded to 3.0 by Mr. Hamaleers page here:

Everything worked fine. My computer was working too, but my internet wasn't. Since it works on the original kernel, I know that maybe it's something I was supposed to install as part of "make [variable]config" The network icon is there, but it doesn't connect automatically as 2.6.39.3 does if that helps as a part of the description.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Can't Get On Internet To Download The Package Automatically

Feb 13, 2010

I managed to get recognized my Trendnet TEW-424UB wireless USB adaptor with ndiswrapper. Now I have the configuration problem. When I try to do the configuration in Yast, in network devices -> network settings and I save I get a message that I must install the "iw" package. Because the computer is quite far from wired networks I can't get it on Internet to download the package automatically. So, I want to ask if it's possible to install this package off-line because I can't find it by searching on OpenSUSE website.

On this computer I use OpenSUSE 11.2 32-bit with KDE. I put some commands if someone wants to know how I manage to get this USB WiFi adaptor to work (with the Windows XP driver sis163u verison 5.1.1039.1050):

Code:
robert@VL420:~> /usr/sbin/ndiswrapper -l

Debian Configuration :: Complex Network Setup - RPI To Automatically Route Internet

Jan 26, 2016

I would like to update my network setup.

Today, I have an ADSL box which is my gateway to internet (192.168.0.1).

I have a Raspberry pi (RPI) which I use as a dhcp & dns server (192.168.0.2).

Recently my mobile phone operator installed a 4G antenna beside my home, and the bandwidth and latency are much better with my mobile phone than with my internet provider (ADSL).

I would like to install a wifi dongle on my RPI (I would get wlan0 & eth0 interfaces)

When RPI detect my shared phone connection (tethering) I would like RPI to automatically route internet:

- from authorized devices on my network to my mobile connexion (wlan0 -> mobile phone).
- from other devices to the standard ADSL internet (eth0 -> ADSL box).

I don't want any device to use the shared 4G connexion, best would be authorized devices to be selected by MAC address. How I should properly setup such a network ?

I am having trouble getting grub to automatically boot into ubuntu server. When I turn on my server the grub menu shows up and shows me the choices. They all work fine except that grub wont automatically select one. This wouldn't be too much of a problem but this is a headless server and I can't boot into ubuntu without a keyboard. I tried looking through the grub 2 documentation but nothing seemed to work when I edited the conf file.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connect To The Internet As Per Normal And Use Any Internet Application?

Feb 1, 2010

On this box I have Two seperate Ubuntu installations. Recently in both I seem to be having the same problem. I initially can connect to the internet as per normal and use any internet application. But after a period of time, sometimes just minutes, sometimes hours, even though the icon says connected, I cant update pages or send emails etc because there is no actual connection. My Physical connection is good I know - My Ubuntu laptop and Windows gamming PC connect fine during this period. So

Does this suggest an intermittent hardware fault or is there some thing in Ubuntu I can check to make sure that it is setup correctly and nothing has been corrupted? I am a lay PC person - I dont really want to be command prompting - Plug & Play and Point & Click is my limit.

OpenSUSE Network :: Masquerad Internet Using Knetwork Manager - Share The Internet Connection To A Desktop

Jul 5, 2011

OpenSuse 11.4 Asus Netbook 1000H Following other members in the forums I have installed Opensuse 11.4 on the Netbook. In the early days Ubuntu Netbook Remix worked well for me. But this has been discarded, and the "one size fits all" Ubuntu had become slow and cumbersome. So..... onto my post. Opensuse is working well. The install went beautifully.

It detected the Wireless Internet and I am able to get on line. I also need to share the Internet connection to a desktop. This is done via a small network switch. Thus far I cannot do this. I tried to use ifup to configure a static ip but this busted my Wireless configuration. I went back to knetwork manager. Then I tried to set up the wired network using knetwork manager and under IPV4 "share" the connection. But this blanks out any possiblity of a static address and substitutes dhcp. My desktop cannot ping the this dhcp address. Ubuntu had this thing called Firestarter? - from memory. This configured the system to sharing the network.

OpenSUSE Network :: Cable Internet To 4G Internet Conversion

Sep 10, 2011

I have SUSE 11.0 set up to act as a router/firewall for my home network to the internet through a cable modem attached to an Ethernet card. When I was laid off several years back, I found information that let me connect my network to an ISP via a standard serial modem. I am considering going to the Sprint U1901 4G USB modem and dropping cable internet. Sprint claims the U1901 is Linux compatible. My thoughts are that using the 4G modem should be similar to the old dialup modem. I had a script that connected to the internet whenever internet traffic was detected. Unfortunately, I did not save notes on what I had done to setup the modem to dial automatically, and I have been unable to locate information that seems good to set this up again. I already know that all I had to do to get routing working was simply replace the internet port in the firewall/routing script with the port for the modem. So I assume that is rather trivial.

Would you please point me to a doc, perhaps SuSE specific, that gives reasonable directions on how to set up a "dial on demand" ISP connection? I assume that the 4G modem will be very similar to my old serial modem so that a dial on demand script will work. I did find a dial on demand howto, however, it did not seem to apply.
