After connecting them with cable nothing happened. Light didn't flash. How to fix it? Aim is to be able to access PC B using FTP and SSH.
I am writing a simple script which will transmit files over a serial connection. I have simplified the setup to test the solution, so the final configuration will be a bit more complicated.
Current setup:
1. 2 RS232 com ports connected with a null modem in between.
2. Open minicom on both
3. Put in 19200,8,N,1 as parameters
4. Open text travels both ways
5. Files sent over Zmodem transfer well.
Both serial adapters are USB, but I tried it also with real com ports, and same story. For simplicity, I will call one adapter "receiving" and the other "sending" to signify from which side I want to send the files through zmodem.
Then I close minicom on the "sending" site without reseting the port (I have also tried setting everything up with stty)

I tried googling but no solution helps. Please do not try to suggest to use minicom on both sides, because this is going to be an unattended process in the end.

how I could file share, or make the whole Hard Drive (HDD) accessible to another computer. The two other computers I have are a Toshiba Laptop with Ethernet and USB, and a iMac Intel with Firewire, USB, and Ethernet. Putting these to use along with:
Three Ethernet Cables
Two Printer Peripheral USB Cables
The Two Computers
A 2GB Flash Drive
That is all I can think of right now. I do not want to use CDs. In a way, I would like to do a network boot. So, how do I get the whole HDD visible to the others computers (either/both) and be able to write to it? I want to put Xubuntu on it, and earse the rest of the Hard Drive. The computers getting this are the iMac G3s and the eMac G4. The eMac has 256MB RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 700MHz processor. Two iMacs have 128MB RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 600MHz Processor. The other iMac is the same as the rest but has a 500MHz processor.
I have a multi-function printer/scanner that plugs straight into the LAN via RJ45. Printing works fine, but I'm not sure how to proceed to set up the scanner. Just to be clear, I am not asking about connecting a usb scanner then sharing it over a LAN, that's different. This scanner plugs straight into the LAN.

Or is it because a cable like that would allow me to use an Ethernet adapter to connect directly to my ISP? View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a friend with an old, still-working laptop that wants to switch to linux. (Dell Inspiron 7000 PII) I loaded Lubuntu because it's an old machine and has only 512MB of memory. The laptop has no built-in ethernet or wireless. As the title says, he has an EC2T card with it. I've tried to get lubuntu to recognize the card but it's a no-go. I tried the EC2T card on a Windows laptop at my workplace and Windows recognized the card immediately; I was able to surf the web with it.
It looks like at one time it worked with [URL]... and that individual didn't get an answer. Other troubleshooting I've done:I've ran the 'Hardware Drivers' utility and it found no drivers. I tried lspci and the EC2T card isn't listed. I tried a wireless pcmcia card from my workplace and it worked so the laptop's card slot is functioning; lspci does list the wireless card.
I have to connect from my linux client laptop to SPARC machine by using roll-over cable and RJ45 interface on the server. On windows I always used Tera Term but don't know how to accomplish this task from linux laptop.
Is there some kind of app like TeraTerm on linux too ?
I can't get a certain harddrive out of its mounting (screws too tight) , but I want it connected to a different computer. Is it possible to have the harddrive's powercable connected to one computer, and its SATA cable connected to another computer's motherboard? (The powercable is too short to connect it to the other computer.)

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf

The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.

The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?

It works perfectly until each morning I will get a "Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible" error. When I do a "sudo service apache2 restart", the problem will go away.

When I type command ln /host/abc.doc abc.doc It gives me following error ln: creating hard link `abc.doc' => `/host/abc.doc': Invalid cross-device link
What I am trying to do is edit the link target to force ip=xxxx.xxx.xxx string at end. I have a software program which access 4 different servers running the software but with different configs. In xp I can copy links and modify as above to correctly force the program to the various servers.
I have read the various how tos on hard vs sym links which I get. Playing around with hardlinks and sysmlinks (the examples I find) does not seem to be what I need. Feel like this is pretty basic stuff but I am a bit stumped.
So my problem is: With internet cable I have connected to modem which support IPTV, so I can watch it, and I can't browse. With my wireless connection I browsing, and I can't watching IPTV.
I need anwser to this if can I set cable connection to only VLC (with which I can watching IPTV), and wireless connection to other programs or only Firefox?
P.S.: I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit.
I just purchased an HP Pavilion p6710f desktop with an ralink wireless n card, and 11.04 won't recognize it in 'Additional Drivers'. I can't get it to an ethernet cable, and then check for more additional drivers (did this on an old laptop), so what can I do??

I also have the unlock keyring problem (because of auto login and wireless Internet), does anyone know a solution to that problem? (It's quite disturbing to get that window each time you start the pc even if you aren't going to use wireless Internet)

my CRT 1080i Samsung TV has a DVI connection, and my Dell mini netbook has a VGA port, so I bought a DVI cable and a VGA-to-DVI adapter. I'm not getting anything on my TV when I plug it in to my netbook...do I have to configure anything?

i got this old UPS from compaq long back and installed it with a new battery. Thing is i need to connect it to my PC using this serial cable. But my mobo doest have 1. So i bought a COM port cable converter to serial and have attached the UPS through it.
Now after all this done, my PC wont detect any UPS.. i dont know whether its detecting it or not...

I am having a problem when I hook my computer up to my tv the desktop is bigger than the screen will allow. Is there a way to shrink the desktop down so that it fits within the screen? I can not find a way to do it on the tv itself... I should also add that the resolution is set to 19201080 and the video card has a vga and dvi port. I am connecting to the tv with a dvi-hdmi cable
