Ubuntu :: Install The Vdso In U 9.04 64bits?

Jan 24, 2011

install the linux-vdso.so in my ubuntu 9.04 64bits. I need it because multiple applications that I have programmed need it due to an inclusion of a 3rd party software. As I have seen this library is only available to fedora suse and other rpm OS. Should I install in my ubuntu machine? and how? I already tried to use the getlibs and tried to downloaded it but I didn't find it anywhere.

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 (64bits) Boots Sometimes But Most Often It Doesn't

Sep 23, 2010

The problem i have is that after sucessfully installing Ubuntu 10.04 (64bits) when i start my PC and i get to grub2 and select Ubuntu it will get stuck at a blank screen with only an "_" flickering on the top of the screen. At first i thought "Hey, maybe it just takes a while to boot" but after letting it sit there for about 20 minutes and nothing happening i decided to restart my PC. And then the same thing happened like 5 times. BUT on the 6th try it booted sucessfully! And everything was working perfectly but as soon as i restarted my PC i would encounter the same problem.

Details I should probably mention that i had the exact same problen on the install process. I tried with a CD i had burned the image on and it would show me install options (Try and install, install, etc.) But when i selected either one of those i would get the "_" flickering and nothing ever happening. Then i tried it with a DVD thinking that the CD was the issue. Same thing. After that i tried with a USB drive and i would get the same exact problem, but on the retry on the USB drive the planets aligned in such a way that i actually got the Virtual Ubuntu loaded from my USB drive.

So it installed sucessfully and when i restarted it i got to GRUB and selected Linux and the "_" would start showing and nothing ever happens. On the <random number> of restarts it actually launched and it picked up my audio, video cards, other NTFS drives, etc. But when i restarted i would get the problem again. I even went trough the whole install process AGAIN (getting it to read from the USB flash drive, starting on Ubuntu) and still no consistent results. Though on the second install it didn't pick up my audio hardware nor my other NTFS drives until the second restart where i was able to use Ubuntu normally. I even upgraded what it told me to upgrade. (now i have two "different" versions of ubuntu on grub, each with it's own safe mode only different by a .24 and a .25 on their names) and right after upgrading and restarting it booted immediately. But after that i'm getting the same issue over and over again.

Ubuntu :: Digikam Package On 64bits Fails To Load?

Jan 8, 2010

I have two computers running Kubuntu 9.10 (using the upgrade paths from 8.04 and so on) one running 32bit and the other running 64 bit and I have the following problem: On the 32bit version installing the repository package for Digikam, everything works just fine. On the 64bit version I have two problems:

First digikam won't start due to the following error:

digikam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/digikamimageplugin_freerotation.so:

I'll have to delete all digikamplugin files from /usr/lib/kde4 and then it works from the command line. It appears that everything is working as it should.Second, starting digikam from Lancelot does nothing.

Fedora :: Wine Won't Go Fullscreen On F11 64bits?

Nov 11, 2009

I've just migrated to Fedora after 2 years of Ubuntu, and I'm rather happy with it, except for one problem left. When I launch a windows program through wine (I've only tried games yet), it won't go fullscreen. I tried everything I fond on the internet: disabling compiz, enabling/disabling virtual desktop, but no matter what, my game is still on a tiny window. I tried switching my resolution to the one of the game, it doesn't change anything. And pressing alt+Enter doesn't change anything either, except sometimes crashing the game. The 32 bits libraries for xorg-nvidia are installed, and I don't see what could cause this problem.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Using A UPS That Works With 11.2 64bits?

Sep 8, 2010

I'm looking for a UPS for my computer setup. This one looks interesting:CyberPower CP800AVR 800VA 450W. The docs say: 'HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X' Unfortunately I don't really know what that means? Will it work with OpenSUSE? My machine is not very power hungry buts its not light-weight. It's a quad-core system with 5 SATA disks, 2 burners, a 30" display plus some smaller accessories. It takes about 2-3 mins to shutdown due to all the services I have running on it, so to be safe I need a little margin of shutdown time from there.

Anyone used this UPS? or something similar? APC and Cyberpower are generally easy to get and have models which I can afford.

With this solution, if Wine 64bits is installed on your system, you can create a 32bits wineprefix by this command :

To use this command, you must to compile and make wine twice in 2 differents folder, like explain :

How to compile and make twice without problem in the "rules" files in the debian folder when i want to build a package?

Debian Hardware :: Marvell NIC 88E8056 In Version 8.3 64bits

Mar 3, 2016

I have an old Lenovo PC on which I have Debian 8.3 64bit with no desktop environment. It has an onboard Marvell 88E8056 NIC that SHOULD be able to run at 1Gb/s but the driver (SKY2) that is loaded will only do 100Mb/s.

So I try to get this thing to work with a new driver.

For that it seems I have to download it from here: [URL] ....

There I download Linux_v10.93.3.3.tar.zip which has directions on how to compile and install the SK98LIN driver.

Since I never done that before, I found this on youtube : [URL] ....

But where for him it does compile, for me it breaks off with saying missing version.h :

.<snip>
.
Check kernel header versiongrep: /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-amd64/source/include/linux/version.h: No such file or directory
./functions: line 1117: [: !=: unary operator expected
grep: /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-amd64/source/include/linux/version.h: No such file or directory
./functions: line 1126: [: !=: unary operator expected
(Kernel:3.16.0 == Header:) [ OK ]
Check kernel functions (Changed: nothing) [ OK ]
Compile the kernel (error) [ failed ]

An error has occurred during the compile proces which prevented the installation from completing. Take a look at the log file install.log for more information. Installation of package failed.

Red Hat :: Sharing A Bootable RHEL5-64bits Disk Between 2 Different Laptops

Sep 29, 2010

I have installed a RH on my laptop. It is a lenovo T400. I made a clone of the laptop disk through the command:

dd if=/dev/sda of=dev/sdb

I picked the copied disk and installed it on a lenovo T410

I works almost great, as all my installation was working excepting the Xwindows part.

for a while, I thought it could be related to the xorg.conf file. So I replaced my xorg.conf file by a fresh that came from a fresh installation on a T410. This did not change anything.

I guess I missed something within the X11 configuration but I can t figure out what.

Ubuntu Installation :: Server Install On Laptop Doesn't Install Pcmcia Support?

Jan 12, 2011

I am installing Ubuntu Server 10.10 on and old Dell Laptop. The network connection is an Xircom PCMCIA card.During install, the computer sees and interacts via the network just fine. For example, I can ping the gateway. Also, the command "lspcmcia" works and show the Xircom card.When I reboot, however, there is no network access, and the "lspcmcia" command is not there. When I try "lspcmcia" the OS helpfully tells me that I can "apt-get" pcmciautils, but, without network access, that fails.I tried adding the install cdrom to apt using "apt-cdrom" and then tried to "apt-get" pcmciautils and it got further, installing some dependencies, but acted like it still was unable to locate the pcmciautils package.
