View 3 RepliesWhere can I get Firefox 3.6.12 for Slackware 13.1 64bits? I can get nightly builds from mozilla e.g. Namoroka, but not a stable release..
View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I've read an interview at Distrowatch, where a topic was the compatibility of Slackware and Zenwalk packages. My understanding was that now they should both be used in both systems.
As Slackware doesn't feature a complete GNOME distribution, my curiosity was about the ability of Zenwalk's GNOME packages play a role there. If so, the second question is how intrusive those packages are considering Slackware 13.1.
I'm happy to announce Linvo 2009.1 rc6. It's a full-featured Linux distribution with a lot of applications by default, including an office suite (OpenOffice.org extended with plugins), a good internet browser (Firefox extended with plugins), a music player that supports music collection and a lot more - Exaile, a video player, and all the available codecs. It can open all types of file formats. It's a LiveCD, which means that you can test it without installing and after this optionally install it - it has a nice easy graphical installer.
It's the first Slackware-based LiveCD distribution with GNOME by default. It includes NetworkManager and initng in place of sysvinit. It also features accessibility tools. It is also the first release with the innovative portable applications system. This allows you to download application from the site (modules section), place it where you like, and use it. It's just a single file, no directories. You can also use this application without installing it, directly from the internet. However, after this, the speed of the application is limited by the speed of your connection, of course. Check out the "Applications" section on the website.
Besides this, you can install software with the apt-get-like system "slapt-get" and it's graphical front-end: GSlapt. It also contains src2pkg and sbopkg in case you want to compile something from source or existing SlackBuild Depfinder is included to find dependencies of packages. Click here for a guide on how to use those. I also managed to put development tools in there, like GCC, G++, svn, cvs, so on... This is a release candidate, and despite that it's OK for using. It has a bit more things to do until the release (like language selection on the boot menu), but I decided that it's important to put it here for testing.
I'm interested in seeing what others are doing w.r.t. fonts in a standard Slack install. The 2 main apps I use are Firefox and Thunderbird and both look fairly poor out of the box. Previously I've used a combination of gtk-qt-engine and gnome-appearance-properties ( with a gsb install ) but this doesn't always do the 'right thing'.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am browsing the package list for Slackware 13.1, accessible through Slackware.com>Get Slack, and I see the package containing the Gnome desktop enviroment nowhere in the list. Should I conclude Gnome isn't part of the Slackware distributions?
View 14 Replies View RelatedYou might be asking why would I want to this? I will tell you why. My wife. She has grown up using Windows. The jump from Windows XP to 7 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be for her. I just had to show her where things changed to for about 10-20 minutes and that was that.
I did a trial run with Ubuntu for about a month using Gnome and not her cup of tea. So now I did a search on the Internet and came up with a Gnome solution here is the link:
http://aminesoft.wordpress.com/2009/...ike-windows-7/
And a KDE link:
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show...content=104232
But both websites are oriented towards Ubuntu/Kubuntu. I am just wondering if this will work with Slackware???
My wife likes a speedy system almost as much as I do. She also like the Search field when you click on the Start menu in Windows 7, the taskbar at the bottom, the big red X in right hand corner of the windows.
I just hope I can go this route and change it to look like Windows 7. I will be very happy and so will my wife of course.
I've just migrated to Fedora after 2 years of Ubuntu, and I'm rather happy with it, except for one problem left. When I launch a windows program through wine (I've only tried games yet), it won't go fullscreen. I tried everything I fond on the internet: disabling compiz, enabling/disabling virtual desktop, but no matter what, my game is still on a tiny window. I tried switching my resolution to the one of the game, it doesn't change anything. And pressing alt+Enter doesn't change anything either, except sometimes crashing the game. The 32 bits libraries for xorg-nvidia are installed, and I don't see what could cause this problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for a UPS for my computer setup. This one looks interesting:CyberPower CP800AVR 800VA 450W. The docs say: 'HID compliant USB port enables full integration with built-in power management and auto shutdown features of Windows, Linux and Mac OS X' Unfortunately I don't really know what that means? Will it work with OpenSUSE? My machine is not very power hungry buts its not light-weight. It's a quad-core system with 5 SATA disks, 2 burners, a 30" display plus some smaller accessories. It takes about 2-3 mins to shutdown due to all the services I have running on it, so to be safe I need a little margin of shutdown time from there.
Anyone used this UPS? or something similar? APC and Cyberpower are generally easy to get and have models which I can afford.
install the linux-vdso.so in my ubuntu 9.04 64bits. I need it because multiple applications that I have programmed need it due to an inclusion of a 3rd party software. As I have seen this library is only available to fedora suse and other rpm OS. Should I install in my ubuntu machine? and how? I already tried to use the getlibs and tried to downloaded it but I didn't find it anywhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedActually, it's recommended to compile (and build) wine 32bits. But, it's possible to build Wine in 64bits and 32bits with the same sources. The solution is explain in this page : [url]Building a shared WoW64 setup.
With this solution, if Wine 64bits is installed on your system, you can create a 32bits wineprefix by this command :
To use this command, you must to compile and make wine twice in 2 differents folder, like explain :
How to compile and make twice without problem in the "rules" files in the debian folder when i want to build a package?
Im about to get some support from Novell using Bomgar. Bomgar support SUSE, Ubuntu, Redhat, Fedore, but i can't find anything about OpenSUSE.
Anyone know if Bomgar work on OS11.3 64bits?

The problem i have is that after sucessfully installing Ubuntu 10.04 (64bits) when i start my PC and i get to grub2 and select Ubuntu it will get stuck at a blank screen with only an "_" flickering on the top of the screen. At first i thought "Hey, maybe it just takes a while to boot" but after letting it sit there for about 20 minutes and nothing happening i decided to restart my PC. And then the same thing happened like 5 times. BUT on the 6th try it booted sucessfully! And everything was working perfectly but as soon as i restarted my PC i would encounter the same problem.
Details I should probably mention that i had the exact same problen on the install process. I tried with a CD i had burned the image on and it would show me install options (Try and install, install, etc.) But when i selected either one of those i would get the "_" flickering and nothing ever happening. Then i tried it with a DVD thinking that the CD was the issue. Same thing. After that i tried with a USB drive and i would get the same exact problem, but on the retry on the USB drive the planets aligned in such a way that i actually got the Virtual Ubuntu loaded from my USB drive.
So it installed sucessfully and when i restarted it i got to GRUB and selected Linux and the "_" would start showing and nothing ever happens. On the <random number> of restarts it actually launched and it picked up my audio, video cards, other NTFS drives, etc. But when i restarted i would get the problem again. I even went trough the whole install process AGAIN (getting it to read from the USB flash drive, starting on Ubuntu) and still no consistent results. Though on the second install it didn't pick up my audio hardware nor my other NTFS drives until the second restart where i was able to use Ubuntu normally. I even upgraded what it told me to upgrade. (now i have two "different" versions of ubuntu on grub, each with it's own safe mode only different by a .24 and a .25 on their names) and right after upgrading and restarting it booted immediately. But after that i'm getting the same issue over and over again.

So I try to get this thing to work with a new driver.
For that it seems I have to download it from here: [URL] ....
There I download Linux_v10.93.3.3.tar.zip which has directions on how to compile and install the SK98LIN driver.
Since I never done that before, I found this on youtube : [URL] ....
But where for him it does compile, for me it breaks off with saying missing version.h :

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running Kubuntu 9.10 (using the upgrade paths from 8.04 and so on) one running 32bit and the other running 64 bit and I have the following problem: On the 32bit version installing the repository package for Digikam, everything works just fine. On the 64bit version I have two problems:
First digikam won't start due to the following error:
digikam: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/kde4/digikamimageplugin_freerotation.so:
undefined symbol: _ZN7Digikam11ImagePlugin17setActionCategoryERK7QSt ring
I'll have to delete all digikamplugin files from /usr/lib/kde4 and then it works from the command line. It appears that everything is working as it should.Second, starting digikam from Lancelot does nothing.
I have installed a RH on my laptop. It is a lenovo T400. I made a clone of the laptop disk through the command:
dd if=/dev/sda of=dev/sdb
I picked the copied disk and installed it on a lenovo T410
I works almost great, as all my installation was working excepting the Xwindows part.
for a while, I thought it could be related to the xorg.conf file. So I replaced my xorg.conf file by a fresh that came from a fresh installation on a T410. This did not change anything.
I guess I missed something within the X11 configuration but I can t figure out what.

View 2 Replies View Related1) Write a C program using the fork() system call that that generates the Fibonacci sequence in the child process. The number of the sequence will be provided in the command line. For example, if 5 is provided, the first five numbers in the Fibonacci sequence will be output by the child process. Because the parent and child processes have their own copies of the data, it will be necessary for the child to output the sequence. Have the parent invoke the wait() call to wait for the child process to complete before exiting the program. Perform necessary error checking to ensure that a non-negative number is passed on the command line.
2) Repeat the preceding exercise, this time using the CreateProcess () in the Win32 API. In this instance, you will need to specify a separate program to be invoked from CreateProcess(). It is this separate program that will run as a child process outputting the Fibonacci sequence. Perform necessary error checking to ensure that a non-negative number is passed on the command line.i have done with Fibonacci sequence .but i dont know how to include tht fork() function and win32 api .any one can help to finish?
As part of my ongoing project I need to put together a messaging server of sorts. So far I have coded a server which accepts multiple connections, which then runs a function that will perform a task, see below. On this sever I have a global structure which is populated using the data found in a read() buffer. However with each fork() that runs the below function each process is handed a blank structure. How could I go about allowing each fork() child process access the same structure?
My code should hopefully show what I am trying to do?

Now,I created one parent and two children. I must create some value as random in child1 and child1 has to send these values to child2.Child2 must read them.. now,I cant create some random values and i can send them. But child2 doesnt work. I have two functions. One them is writing, another one is reading. Child2 uses reading function, but it doesnt work (child2 cant call it, because writing function in endless loop) What i must do? I used wait,usleep... No way.. I attached my file and also there is code..
