View 3 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and I am using the classic ubuntu interface instead of Unity. I am facing problems with the Archive Manager. My problem is that I can open archives but I can not modify them or create a new zip file with the GUI. I get an error saying:
zip error: Invalid command arguments (no such option: -)
The easiest way to reproduce it is by right-clicking on any file, pressing compress and selecting .zip in the file format.
Every shortcut... every program... every link... everything opens in Archive Manager. And then it reports that the archive is not supported... I gotta launch everything directory related through a terminal just to get to navigate through a window manager.

This occured when I tried to open the "SonyVegas 8.0 exe" . I have unzipped this file. I think "exe" has something to do with Windows, if so, is there a way I can convert this file so it can be adapted to my archive manager? Or is my archive manager not working, correctly? I am running ubuntu 11.04 in classic mode with macubuntu theme and the avant window navigator. I am very impressed. I have downloaded kubuntu and have tried it from the live cd. View 3 Replies View RelatedFor about a week or two when I try to open a folder from the menu "Places" of Gnome 2.32.0 (with Fedora 14 OS) the program Rythmbox starts instead. This happens even when I try to access a connected harddrive which requires entry of a code. After entering the code again Rythmbox opens! This doesn't happen only with "Computer", "Network" and "Connect to Server" of "Places". I can't think of anything that I did (apart from using Rythmbox quite often recently) that could have caused this, so I assume that it is a bug of Gnome. Have other people encountered this problem? It is a samba shared folder and so far I could browse fast and easily those files in another old ( Pentium4 1,5Ghz) PC with WinXP. I installed ubuntu 10.10 but the browsing now is toooooooo slow , although the old Pc's performance is considerably faster than before (when I had WinXP). Also, although the old PC's speed is satisfatory now, would it become even faster if I installed an older ubuntu distro?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu dual-booted with Windows. But whenever I start-up the computer, linux is listed twice! D: Right after I installed it, I was told I needed 200+ MB worth of updates, so I got them, and since then, it's been listed twice in the start-up OS booter thingy. But selecting the one with lower numbers doesn't boot up anything, It just stops at a scary screen with a blinking cursor.
AND, since the beginning, I have never been able to browse folders from the places menu, OR access the Start-up Applications manager. Ubuntu also seems to slow down randomly, and then speed back up. Starting up applications makes it unusually laggy for the period of time that they're starting up, and I'd like to know if Ubuntu is usually so slow on machines like mine...

I have two non-system drives with archive files. Each drive is formatted with one primary partition only, occupying all the drive space. In each drive there will be a number of directories with files in them, like this:

I have the follwoing fenomenan. In my /etc/fstab I have an entry to automatically mount my NAS. Here is my entry:
192.168.1.10:/mnt/array1/My_NAS /media/My�40NAS nfs _netdev,
auto,rw,hard,users,intr 0 0
When my laptop boots it successfully mounts the NFS NAS and I get an icon "My NAS" on my dekstop that points to the NAS. If I double click on the icon it opens my file browser and I can browse thru my NAS fodlers.
What I see on the left hand side of the file browser is that I have to entries for My NAS. One of it has a button to shows that it is mounted and the other does not.
If I go to Places I also see 2 entries for "My NAS". One of it takes me to browsing the NAS and if I click on the other it says "Unable to mount ... busy or already mounted". Which makes sense.
Is it possible to somehow open Nautilus file manager, or favorites, or places items using hotkey(s)? Simply going to the launcher just to open the file manager is annoying, and I'd really find it convenient to somehow launch the Nautilus using hotkey(s)
